View Full Version : Interesting Findings at the 350Z forum

I just went over to a Nissan 350Z forum... just to see what's crackin' over there.

So, I started reading some of their posts, and what they said about their own cars and about others just made me realize why I want an 8 that much more!

All they could talk about was how much power their Z's were cranking out and how they could take a Mustang anyday! The vibe from their forum was a bunch of power-hungry guys eager to be able to beat any other car that comes their way at a stop-light.

Then, I came back over to this site and started reading some posts... and people are talking about how they love the feel of the 8 and how much fun it is to drive. Just made me realize my priorities in buying my car and how jacked up some others are.

Just an interesting observation that I wanted to share with ya'll!

Yeah, I found that myself as well. I really like how people here actually use complete sentences, with (mostly) correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It's a rare thing in forums now.

Hey, don't pick on them. Different people, have different priorities and likes. We have a decent community here, and we should make every effort to interact with others in a civilized manner. Theres knowledge all over the internet, and we should be adult enough to make good use of it.

Be careful about posting stuff like this- it's a great way to attract trolls from other forums who get pissed because someone posts a link to this one and the thread "bashing" their car of choice.

Well said.

I visit quite a number of auto forums just because I love cars so much and although every forum has their "attitude" there's a whole lot of useful information. You've got to take it for what it's worth and ingnore the b.s.

I currently own a Nissan Murano, Pontiac GTP and Mits Galant. I'm shopping for a replacement on either the GTP or Galant and the RX-8 is one consideration along with the G35. So, I visit this forum, everyday, as well as the "G" and 350z forums to soak up as much knowledge as possible before making my choice in the springtime.

Now, there is one thing that I will admit, this RX8 forum does have a more "warm" feeling than most others. Other than a few clowns here and there, :p I feel most of the members here a respectable, more mature and nicer. Just my .02

Ohgeez, Appreciate the observation and looks like you won't be "surprised" with whichever car you end up choosing, I myself narrowed it down to the same two cars and based on test drives found the RX-8 more of a "driver's car" with a better fit and finish (the most surprising aspect) than the Infinity...The infinity did sound better for whatever that's worth. Happy hunting...

It also highly depends on which forum you visit. If you went to my350z.com or 350zmotoring, then yes I would have to agree with you on the "attitude/feel" there. However, if you visit others like zcar.com or 350zfrenzy.com, i feel like their attitudes are more like this forum. Most of the people here are pretty "chill" for lack of a better word. That's why I like hanging out here sometimes. There aren't any hard-core street-racers, "ghetto" fabulous rides, etc etc. This forum is like the regular joe forum, and you guys should try to keep it that way. Don't attract trolls by dissing other forums for no reason but to make yourself feel better...its like calling someone fat to make yourself feel thin.

I don't get the comparisons at all. Why would anyone try to compare a 2 seat car with a 4 seat car. The 350 Z has to compare itself with the Z4, Corvette, Lotus Elise, etc. The G35 C is of course the logical comparo to the RX.

If you only need two seats, you still might decide to choose the RX above the others, but if you need four seats, which most of us do, those cars are out.

Well said. I currently own a Nissan Murano, Orlando

Could you provide some insight on the Murano. It was my choice IF I were to get a SUV.

Thanx!

I like this guy!

Hey Moderators can we keep him....pretty pleezzz? :D

I agree with you too as I also still subscribe to two VW Passat forums and an Acura forum. Althought the Acura club does tend to reflect the Ricer boy attitude (No diss intended but they average only 1-2 new posts per week at the RSX forum). I occasionaly visit from time to time.

I have owned three VWs since 1995 and due to declining service and reliability issues I had to jump ship to gain back some piece of mind. The Acura was only a stepping stone so to speak to my RX-8. This club and it's forums tend to be more technical and creature comfort oriented which is what I like. Just like the VW clubs.

Rock on dude!

Wow!!

I had no intent of starting a "flame-war" or anything like that by my post... It was more of a tribute to how laid back and fun this forum is.

However, after reading my first post again, I can totally see how it came off that way... so if I offended anyone I apologize.

I also failed to mention in my first post how much I actually like the Z, it was my first choice until the 8 came out!

And Zthang I did go to 350Zmotoring.com, and I went over there to read about the Z and make sure the 8 was my car of choice by reading owners reviews of the Z. And I just happened upon those conversations so I thought I would share them over here.

Welp, Merry Christmas!

If the rx-8 had 280 hp and 280lb of torque some of you would talk shit about taking out mustangs also. You get people like that in all forums, and just bcz there are youngens "like me" who brags alot so...they can do that bcz they can. Ooops because... "roll eyes" Your priorities and your age is alot different dat is why you see a different msg. I am not flaming on you but when you said interesting finding I thought it was something interesting or useful, and yes it sounded like you were talking smack.

I get honked at for driving too slow in my 8 :)

Cars that look fast don't have to move fast ya know. I take pride in being the slowest 8 driver on the road. I'm gonna go get the warm fuzzies today cause I plan on taking my 8 past 4000 RPM for the first time :)

The only thing is I'll be stuck in rush hour traffic after work and I'll be lucky to get the 8 out of 2nd gear.

I've noticed that most members of Mazda (esp. this one and the Mazda6) sites are pretty laidback and attitude-free about their cars. Maybe that's because Mazda owners are real drivers and not street-racers concerned only with 0-60 times. That's the exact opposite of your average Nissan owner.

It didn't sound like smack at all. He made an accurate observation. Unlike me, he decided to voice his observation, which is perfectly fine. Importantly, he voiced his observation in a controlled, reserved manner that maintained focus on the observation rather than his ego and emotion turned inward.

It's always the WE vs. THEM. Race, sex, class, etc. I would even say we have some of that in this forum, where certain people or cliques of people assume more privilege here and others have to walk carefully on glass around the perimeter. Now we have to conjure up new scenarios (like with gangs) involving car ownership?

Even if the RX8 had that much hp and torque, I doubt the owners would be talking smack about other cars. As it is, we have more hp than many other currently hot cars out there, including the 3-series, IS300, and TSX, and I haven't seen any smack.

As soon as I read the thread title, I knew what it was going to be about. It's an interesting, accurate observation.

the owner or community here can't talk smack bcz they can't if they took the 8 out and race it it would lose just like it did in best motoring. I liked the 8 and still do but what I am just saying just bcz they own a Z doesn't mean they care about 0-60. I own a evo doesn't mean I like the boy race look, and I don't care about the 0-60 even though is faster than the rx8. I bought it bcz it was the most funnest thing out there, and more fun than the rx-8 or any other car in its price range or class. Is the is300 and tsx in its class? I thought it was g35/s2ki/3 series/ the nissan Z was in its class... heh new info 2 me.

And to response to scorp the reason why is a laid back community is bcz that's what the 8 imo is a "laid back car."

The NIssan forums I'm on aren't filled with the brightest people. If you want to see some really chill and laid back car owners, check out WRX owners. Being in the WRX community is like a club, jus tlike how people with rotary powered cars all stick together. It's not elitist in any way, and most owners are extremely friendly and the community is very diverse. My friend always gets waves and honks from other Subarus. He has one himself.

Yep, certainly one of the perks of owning a Subaru. Most of the sites are filled with car geeks and are overall rather mature, knowledgable, and fun people.

Yeah, I agree that the Subaru forums are fairly relaxed compared to others. I used to hang around i-Club before the STi came out to find out more about it.
