So basically I am brand new to the forum and looking for some inspiration.

I want to buy an RX8 with an Auto... Sorry guys... I dont really enjoy the whole manual thing as much as I could... but to each his own...

So... How much would a used rx8 cost? I know i might be limited to the 04 and 05 versions... But a lot of people on here mention wanting to get rid of the auto for a manual.... so I was hoping that would inspire some quick sales and/or good deals...

In addition to the cost... What is the cost of maintenance and lifetime of the rx8? I know I could find this elsewhere, but direct experience would be best to find the answers.....

Any tips to assist me on my search? or possible comments to mention before I get neck deep in an 8?

Thanks

As for lifetime maintenance, not much.

Get a detailed fax report on any used RX8 and make sure they maintained it properly. Lifespan is completely dependent on how well you maintain the car (which can be found in the FAQ section).

One thing I should mention, the auto 8s you are looking at will be significantly slower than their manual counterparts, so if that is important to you, you may want to reconsider.

My best advice is make sure you test drive it often before buying, and test drive both versions if possible.

Good luck

Thanks, I am mainly looking for an auto for simplicity... A manual would get me into trouble... and I hate driving a stick in the city....I do like the sportronic idea though.... So it would be a little fun... Thanks for the input..

np. o and my 5something y.o dad drives a stick TL type S into NYC every day, so it can be done without problems and you aren't only driving in the city, so test drive both so there is no regret.

Lol... Ok fine.... I was learning to drive a stick... I took a trip to california and my aunt had me drive my uncle's old jeep wrangler through LA..... Almost scarred for life... I would not regret the auto... I really dont plan to drift or drag.... and besides... Aftermarket parts could overcome some of these differences between auto and stick right?

Not really; not without thousands to invest.

Also if you do get an 04-05 rx8 with the 4 speed auto, I suggest that you should get an additional oil cooler, as those versions came with one and the manual version came with 2.
It's your choice, but seriously, you should test drive both of them, then pick your final decision, if you just go with an auto, you'll be like many people here who regretted buying it.

After buying the car there really isn't that much you have to do keep it running.

The oil is actually pretty cool; It is self-recirculating so you almost never have to top it off and with basic mods you can get 30whp or so. Some people have even mentioned gaining a HP or two from underglow neons? I might have to try this soon...

Sigh...the internet is truly worthless on April 1st.

If you are in the market for a sports car, and looking at your post it seems you are serious about it and would keep it for many years....then why not just get the stick and learn how to drive it? It's all about the process of learning to drive the 8 properly that is very rewarding. Also, getting the stick would save you the laughs you would get from others, as well as the regret you might get when you realize you just paid all that cash for a sports car with a detuned, automatic shifting drivetrain....

OK... I see the hating on the auto... SO i guess it would be beneficial to me to test them both.... But the only problem is finding one now...

I have a very nice '04 auto (winning blue) that I plan to put on the market this spring in Madison Wis. Has only 32k miles and complete dealer-conducted maintenance records. Let me know if you are serious.

Don't buy an auto before '06. They are the lower power engines and 4spd. '06 and newer have the higher power engine and 6 spd. Definitely a better package.
