It'd be cool if it just popped up and said "April Fools!"
But I backed up like 1500 pictures and 50hrs or music anyway

My favorite part is that nobody really knows what will happen when it/they activate...

At my job (IT consulting company) we are scrambling to double-verify that all of our customers are safe.

Lol... you guys realize that you can't just "magically" acquire the virus right? You have to click it and run it, unless you're on a network (such as work) and one idiot opens and runs it and there aren't proper passwords etc. :p:

Conflicker can "guess" "simple" "dumbass" password like "password, admin, open, hello, etc"

It first spread thru an exploit on Windows Server services. but that shit was patched like Sept or Oct or something, but most idiots are too dumb to update their systems.(for more advance users like me, I disable shit that I dont need, works every time :)) Just like what happened to the Blaster worm couple years ago.

Most of these are hoaxes. Remember the burning torch virus that was suppose to do the same thing last april? Anyway, you dont need to download it to get it. If you open the wrong email... tadaaaa its there.

Forgot I had a Windows partition on my Mac, booted it up last night and it got owned by Gael.D virus.

Wrestled with it for 2 hours...sad because I'm senior I.T. here at VT. Hopefully, I'm correctly patched for Conficker...gonna go try it right now.

Senior IT wrestling with a Windows virus picked up on a Mac! That's just downright funny!

Conficker was patched ages ago. If you run windows updates once annually, you're probably all set.

I think it's plan is to DDOS some website.

Not too familiar with the concept of self-propagating worms, are you?

Many viruses can spread without human engineering. Conficker is one of them.

Not too familiar with Windows updates, are you?

Microsoft already patched the exploit that it uses to spread. :p:

On 15 October 2008, Microsoft released an emergency out-of-band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out-of-band) patch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_%28computing%29) to fix vulnerability MS08-067, which the worm exploits to spread. The patch applies only to Windows XP SP 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Service_Pack_2), Windows XP SP 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3), Windows 2000 SP4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_2000) and Windows Vista (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista); Windows XP SP 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Service_Pack_1) and earlier are no longer supported.

Most modern day viruses are self sufficient. They have the ability to adapt, hack, multiply, change and transfer themselves any number of ways to anyone your computer knows about.

Anybody not patched (read: half of the Windows-using population) can't get it rather easily. Especially with the virus running around that infects Linux-on-MIPS routers (Linksys and Netgear, mostly).

I'm going to assume you meant "can get it rather easily" :p:

And yes, that's true, and if they get it, well, s'what happens when you're an idiot and don't update honestly, the updates are there for a reason
