something I couldn't get in the pics is that the plastic upper intake manifold is actually stripped off the LIM.. so the damge is a bit more extensive then what is in these first few pics.. I will try to get better pics tomorrow.

i'm sure at 75% value of the car they can fix it.. but i'm wondering if I would be comfortable driving a car where nearly 10,000$ in repairs was needed... and I say that without even having GAP coverage.

well hail damage is mostly outer body work, no?

my battery completely leaked out.. it was punctured. the entire intake tract is screwed.. including the throttle body and as I mentioned before the UIM.. it was "stripped" off the LIM.. not quite sure what happened there. the fusebox was decimated. a/c condenser completely purged. all my coolant leaked out.. not sure from where yet. i'm just trying to give a bit more of an idea of the damage that can't be seen in the pics.

They can fix that man. Its up to your car ins co. to say yes or no depending on how much you have left to pay on the car.

MOST of the damage appears to be cosmetic and will not effect the way the car drives at all as long as the frame is not bent...

I had the same thing almost happen to me the other day. getting onto the free way, straight on ramp, traffic lights weren't on. Car in front of me accelerating to freeway speeds, but I was hanging back because I've seen people do stupid things too often. Sure enough this lady SLAMMED on her brakes right before the lights (that were still off btw). The weird part is that she start decelerating quickly before her brake lights ever came on. Either her relay is bad or she was using some ebrake before the brake pedal.

I had a very safe distance behind her and was able to simply veer into the carpool lane and pass her.. the car behind me (following way too close on my ass) didn't react in time and I was able to see the collision in my rearview.

After thinking about what a dumb $(*^#$(^ she was for awhile I came to the conclusion that she was trying to get hit. It was almost time for the traffic lights to come on, and I'm sure that by the time everyone got out and asked if people were ok the lights would be on.. in short, i'm thinking insurance scam.

I called the highway patrol the next day and gave them my info in case the guy who did hit her needs a witness to what occurred.

I'm just glad to hear that you're ok Alzorz. People might have all kinds of reason to turn their noses at 8's but they do their best to keep the occupants safe in an impact.

That's fine. I know what you are saying. But Al may not have been following that close. When you are in that situation, you are probably going fairly quickly. If someone slams on their brakes in front of you unexpected, even if they are 15 feet in front of you....it will be a close call. And I understand who the insurance company will place blame on in situations like this. Doesn't mean it is correct though.

that sucks man. i wouldnt recommend doing the repair, not because they can't fix it... any good body shop can get it road worthy but that carfax report is gonna screw you big time when it comes time to sell it (if you never ever get rid of it, you might be ok) haha

as a precaution I refuse to follow anyone onto the parkway for that exact reason. I usually wait until I everyone in front of me has gotten on the parkway, so I can hit 60 and merge into traffic like you're supposed to.

Especially on our insane ass parkways with damn turn style on ramps... Especially Northern state headed out east.

Long story short, be wary of on ramps, they are worse than intersections.

The other driver actually said in the police report that there was contact between him and the OTHER drive in front of him.. the other guy apparently drove off.

If the car is totaled.. I don't have GAP coverage.. I will have to pay the car off and the difference depending on how much it is I could use for a downpayment on something else I guess. I don't know how I will feel if they want to repair it.. like has been said with double digit damages in thousands.. this car is going to be stuck with me my whole life. That and I have a bad feeling about how the repair itself may turnout.

I will post new pics up tomorrow when I go check out the car and take real pics.

I guess I have to start considering a possible part out.

If it was a GM product, I'd call that "front clip and hood" replacement, along with incidentals like the UIM. As long as it didn't hit the shock towers and lower suspension tie-in points, you're looking at some serious cosmetic damage only.

regardless of it being all cosmetic or not. if the repairs total more than the value of the car based on whatever your insurance company uses for value assessment (NADA or KBB), they will total it. theoretically you could cause 20k+ damage just to the outside of your car with no damage to anything as far as chasis or under the hood. if the car values at 13k, it makes no sense for an insurance company to repair your vehicle.

Nitrous isnt on the car.. infact it was sold and shipped...

You forgot to mention paint and labor.

Just installing and painting the bumper and fenders cost alot, I know when they replaced my front bumper and 1 fender and a oem rim the total was about 4k so i know yours is going to cost WAY more than the value of your car just by the lights alone.

32,010 miles - the insurance guy said that was "very low" for this model year, so pending verification at the salvage yard of the mileage I will get my settlement.

I had the car towed to my Dad's shop yesterday so last night I spent a good 5 hours getting everything off the car. I already started the part out in my local NE thread.. whatever isn't sold/dibbed on by Tuesday will go the FS forums for everyone else..

It cost me $12,500.
Only 25,000 miles, it's an 05 Touring.
Clearbra up front and I even got a second set of winter wheels/tires (blizzak's). The interior and exterior are mint.

And as a plus plus I drove 235 miles and I STILL have a quarter tank of gas remaining. In my previous 8 I was luckily if I got 200 miles before the light came on.

It is absolutely mint in and out. As you can see in the pics I already de-virginized her with the clear corners. Also did LEDs all around. Tomorrow I throw on the exhaust and intake. Then I have springs and the Racing Beat midpipe going on in a week or so. Followed by tires.
