View Full Version : this may sound stupid.... 2fast_4u 12-20-2003, 01:08 AM So, this might be a stupid question, but is the RX-8 a stick (manual) or auto? Felix W. 12-20-2003, 01:26 AM Yup. Speed-ER doc 12-20-2003, 01:27 AM Whichever you wish, perky. takahashi 12-20-2003, 01:49 AM As you wish buddy.... what a dumb question! shift_zoom8 12-20-2003, 02:44 AM There's no such thing as a stupid question. There are only stupid people who ask questions. tribal azn2 12-20-2003, 05:39 AM wow. seriously wow there are no stupid questions, only stupid people. pepe 12-20-2003, 06:45 AM Well, what is more stupid, this question or buying an auto 8? ;) Folks, you may commence flaming :D Gord96BRG 12-20-2003, 10:41 AM And now, for one serious and slightly less abusive answer... Originally posted by 2fast_4u So, this might be a stupid question, but is the RX-8 a stick (manual) or auto? The RX-8 is available with a 6 speed manual transmission or a 4 speed automatic transmission. Perhaps you should do some basic research, try going to www.mazdausa.com and look at the specifications and options. Regards, Gordon RX-8 friend 12-20-2003, 11:17 AM Good post Gord. More complete would say "in north america". And there are no stupid questions, but there are stupid answers. I'll let the readers decide which ones are ;) . -=Zeqs=- 12-20-2003, 12:05 PM Wow...never realized there were so many cock smokers on this web board. Almost as bad as the kiddie ones, IE: superhonda.com There are plenty of cars that are available as only A/T or M/T. S2K = M/T ONLY So the boy was too lazy to search for his answers on more information based sites. But everyone here seems to want to demonstrate how great the rotary world is, but what happens when we get someone intrigued? Everyone acts like a freaking PRICK to him. Don't gag while you guys blow yourselves. speedsville 12-20-2003, 02:10 PM This was apparently his way of doing research. He probably expected to find some friendly responses from other RX8 enthusiasts, but instead got rude responses from 10th grade mentality stuck up snobs. It makes me rethink my position on the RX8 and the forum. Speed-ER doc 12-20-2003, 02:13 PM Hey, HER nickname IS "perky." lol And if you look at her homepage, there is some incredible stats on her RX-8 0-60 and quarter-mile times (world records for stock). Whazzup? Genom 12-20-2003, 03:52 PM Please. This is the kind of question any forum will get some kind of smartass response. I still find it hard to beleive people cant go to mazdausa.com and just lookup all the basic stats on the car before asking Q's. Something like this is EASY to find. -=Zeqs=- 12-20-2003, 05:35 PM Originally posted by Genom Please. This is the kind of question any forum will get some kind of smartass response. I still find it hard to beleive people cant go to mazdausa.com and just lookup all the basic stats on the car before asking Q's. Something like this is EASY to find. For a car fanatic like you or I, of course they'd go to Mazdausa.com or edmunds.com However, some people are, DARE I SAY IT...not so technologically inclined and do not know of the website addresses. For instance...what's the website for Nissan? It's not www.nissan.com, I assure you of that. Most people would try than and give up once they got the page that comes up. Give the guy a little slack. He might not even know jack about the RX-8 for that matter, but if people were more polite to him, he might educate himself. God forbid some of the members here ever try and expand your knowledge on something that you are ignorant about and someone gives you some rude and immature answer. Oh wait...I'm forgetting...most people on this forum tend to be too closed minded anyways to want to become more diverse...the RX-8 is the best car in the world in all arenas...there are no other vehicles better...land, air, or water. rodmeister 12-20-2003, 05:46 PM quote: "Well, what is more stupid, this question or buying an auto 8?" Hey, watch it! Felix W. 12-20-2003, 05:55 PM What is more stupid? His RX-8 'homepage' in his profile claims 12 second quarter miles claims 129mph at the quarter and then asks "Is it available as a stick shift?" Maybe not stupid, just sad. (also claims he is a girl named "Lala"- be careful!) felix -=Zeqs=- 12-20-2003, 06:02 PM Hmm...You bring some interesting insights Felix... Genom 12-20-2003, 06:23 PM zeqs: Dont get me wrong, but if this person is smart enough to register on the board and post a message, they are smart enough to have read the FAQ. That kinda question is just plain lazy. I have asked some boneheaded questions before, but it has always been after reading up on the subject and not understanding it. But I always at least try to find what I want before posting a question on a forum, since it involves the time to register, post, and then wait for a reply. 6 seconds with any search engine will get him that answer. Now "he" might end up being the next rotary engine god and banish me for being a smartass, but I will say the same thing to anybody. If your not interested enough in at least *trying* to find the answer on yor own, I'm not interested enough in giving it :D -=Zeqs=- 12-20-2003, 08:11 PM Originally posted by Genom zeqs: Dont get me wrong, but if this person is smart enough to register on the board and post a message, they are smart enough to have read the FAQ. It was just irritating to me to see six flames in a row. I mean...yes...the extent of the question was a bit redundant, but in all honesty, there have been some cars where I wasn't sure if it came in one trim or another and in all seriousness, for the life of me, I couldn't find any information online. For instance...to this day...I'm still not certain as to the difference between SMG and M/T, or even SMG and A/T. I know the difference between M/T and A/T, that's clear as day, but with the SMG, I do not believe I've seen one in person, definately have not had the opportunity to try a car with a Sequential Manual Gearbox. For such a simple question, there are two pages of responses, only one was required: it comes as both. jeremy Speed-ER doc 12-20-2003, 09:43 PM Just trying to get my post numbers up so I can be a "Senior Member." I duwanna smoke any cock. It's sad, but some of us DON'T have anything better to do. All in good fun. BTW perky, where did you or whoever get those track numbers on that homepage? Genom 12-20-2003, 10:18 PM LOL. So you just had to repeat the reply AND try to make me feel bad for calling someone lazy, is that about right? :D :D :D Originally posted by jerkorz Okay, my .02... I know the difference between M/T and A/T, that's clear as day, but with the SMG, I do not believe I've seen one in person, definately have not had the opportunity to try a car with a Sequential Manual Gearbox. SMG, a la Ferrari F1, Toyota SMG , BMW SMG II, and more, is a manual gearbox (including clutch) that has hydraulic servos controlling the clutch actuation and the shifter actuation, with the hydraulic servos being computer controlled. It is pretty much a manual gearbox that has the computer operate the clutch and shift lever. These systems have the same mechanical efficiency as a manual gearbox (because that's what they are). There are many other semi-manual type gearboxes like the VW/Audi TipTronic, geartronic, shifttronic, etc., that are pure automatic transmissions (no clutch, uses a slushbox torque converter), with electronic controls to give an optional "manual" shift mode where you can use the shift lever or steering wheel buttons or paddles to control shifting of the automatic transmission. Mazda RX-8's optional 4 speed auto is one of these systems, and like all automatic transmissions, is heavier and less efficient than a manual transmission. FWIW, rumours are that Mazda will revise the "shift-it-for-you" options by the 2006 model year, and the RX-8 will offer a 5 speed automatic trans that can handle the full 9000 rpm of the high power engine, as well as will offer a SMG 6 speed gearbox option. Then the change to horses. Think about it. I think he/she is here to make fun of RX8 owners, suggesting that we like to think the RX8 is faster than it really is. Doesn't one need to rev the engine differently to rev-match in the rain as opposed to a hot summers day? -=Zeqs=- 12-22-2003, 08:10 PM Originally posted by shift_zoom8 See the horses in "her" post?
