The RX-8 is available with a 6 speed manual transmission or a 4 speed automatic transmission. Perhaps you should do some basic research, try going to www.mazdausa.com and look at the specifications and options.

Please. This is the kind of question any forum will get some kind of smartass response. I still find it hard to beleive people cant go to mazdausa.com and just lookup all the basic stats on the car before asking Q's. Something like this is EASY to find.

However, some people are, DARE I SAY IT...not so technologically inclined and do not know of the website addresses. For instance...what's the website for Nissan? It's not www.nissan.com, I assure you of that. Most people would try than and give up once they got the page that comes up.

Give the guy a little slack. He might not even know jack about the RX-8 for that matter, but if people were more polite to him, he might educate himself.

God forbid some of the members here ever try and expand your knowledge on something that you are ignorant about and someone gives you some rude and immature answer. zeqs: Dont get me wrong, but if this person is smart enough to register on the board and post a message, they are smart enough to have read the FAQ. That kinda question is just plain lazy.

I have asked some boneheaded questions before, but it has always been after reading up on the subject and not understanding it. But I always at least try to find what I want before posting a question on a forum, since it involves the time to register, post, and then wait for a reply. 6 seconds with any search engine will get him that answer.

Now "he" might end up being the next rotary engine god and banish me for being a smartass, but I will say the same thing to anybody. If your not interested enough in at least *trying* to find the answer on yor own, I'm not interested enough in giving it :D

I get what you mean man. It was just irritating to me to see six flames in a row. I mean...yes...the extent of the question was a bit redundant, but in all honesty, there have been some cars where I wasn't sure if it came in one trim or another and in all seriousness, for the life of me, I couldn't find any information online.

For instance...to this day...I'm still not certain as to the difference between SMG and M/T, or even SMG and A/T.

I know the difference between M/T and A/T, that's clear as day, but with the SMG, I do not believe I've seen one in person, definately have not had the opportunity to try a car with a Sequential Manual Gearbox.

It's basically MT with no clutch :D

I just wanted to say thanks to the people who nicely answered my question (Speed-ER doc, Gord96BRG, -=Zeqs=-, speedsville, and jerkorz). And 'speedsville' was right, asking my question here was my way of doing research, and i did get my answer. :)

Yea I'll have to agree w/ Zeqs, I have met TONS of people who are not into cars & have never even heard of the Rx-8. I always have to explain to them that "its the car that was in X-men 2" & then they say "OOOH ok that car yeaaah" lol

man some of you manual owners need to watch it.
some people prefer automatic... and most prefer manual... many sports car these day some with semi-autos n shyt .... so its not stupid buyin a rx-8 in auto...

FWIW, rumours are that Mazda will revise the "shift-it-for-you" options by the 2006 model year, and the RX-8 will offer a 5 speed automatic trans that can handle the full 9000 rpm of the high power engine, as well as will offer a SMG 6 speed gearbox option.

It'd be like asking a 2nd gen Eclipse owner if the car comes in AWD or FWD.

I would love a 6 speed SMG for the '05 models. Its doubtful though.

Look at the verbal labels she spends time to put on those pics: "perky" and "horsey love." Do girls usually do those kinds of things? Sounds like a computer savvy guy playing a joke.
