Whew, im about to piss my pants here, ok guys no fighting/arguing with which tint is best here... Im posting this new thread because Joe(Rowlettrx8er) and I are trying to find a good tint shop with a reasonable price.

I forgot what joes looking at but i know theres several different types of tint I /He could get... Please fill me in on the differences between them.

Now im looking for either 15-20% tint thats a good solid black, anyone know any good shops around the DFW area that do a good job with a reasonable price and warranty?

Thanks...:)

Ok that sounds pretty good, one more thing... Joe was telling me something about ceramic and metallic tints... anyone have any idea the differences?

Metallic tints may interfere with AM radio and cell phone reception. It's not likely based on the percentage I've been told, but it may happen. Ceramic is considered higher quality. Also, if you have a Madico dealer near you, you may have the option of getting an "advanced ceramic" or infrared tint that keeps out a lot of that outside heat.

Metallic tints also tend to have more of a reflection looking at it from the outside.

not sure how worried you are about staying legal, but you can't get anything darker than 25% on the front windows (driver and passenger doors). Everything else behind that you can as dark as you want. I've got 25 on the front windows and 5 on the small back windows and rear window.

I also went with a metallic tint. I think it reflects the heat a little better and it actually looked darker to me. I haven't noticed any reception issues, but I mainly listen to sat radio and the antenna is outside the car.

if you have a radar detector be aware the metallic tint can interfere with reception. So if you have like a V1 and your rear is tinted with metallic your going to lose some serious warning distance.

wait i didnt know you can get tint on your front window... i was thinking 15-20% but i was assuming only on the side and rear windows... what would i get on the front window? Does everyone get tint on the front?!?! ugh...

Front tint is not done as often. If it is done, it needs to allow much more light in... so you're still looking at 60% to 70%. I have not checked what the legal limitations are for the front window, if it's even legal at all in Texas.

Ok good thats what i thought... i wasnt going to get front tint at all, glad i dont have to get it because i was thinking i didnt want it...

you aren't thinking windshield?! are you? thats wayyy illegal. the front windows can go as dark as 35% and anything behind that there's no limit on.

Yes, we were talking about windshield... which is where I got that 60% to 70% number from... but again, check what is legal first if anything is in Texas. I should've clarified that because when most people talk about "front" windows they're talking about the driver and passenger door... not the actual front. Front (driver and passenger doors) can be 25% as I recall, but most dealerships only offer 20 or 30 so you're stuck with 30 for legal. The backseat windows and rear window can be 5%.

I believe in Texas that you are not allowed to have any tint at all below the IS-1 line on the front windshield.

Like I said, the legal limit in on the front windows (driver and passenger doors) is 25%

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/Misc/faq/tint.htm

Unfortunately, I think most companies sell 35%, 20%, and 5%...or at least all the places I checked.

And yes...tinting the front windshield is illegal if it extends below a certain distance on the windshield. But I wouldn't even mess with that.

Good, glad i got that worked out... so now i only need to decide whether i should go with 15% or 20%

i personally would go 20%, you are not gonna be getting laid in your car (get a hotel) and it makes it easier at night to see. (and check blind spot)

do i have to mention, the less tint you have, the less trouble you will get from cops, they do not like pulling over cars with heavy tint and generally you get a harsher treatment.

I'd like to add to Luke's comment about seeing at night on the front windows. When I bought my car I actually had tint on the windsheild and some pretty heavy tint on the front windows. It was frakking awesome during the day when the sun was out, but let me tell you at night it was a frakkin bitch to see out of. After a couple months I ripped the front tint out by hand cuse I was so fed up with it.
Your call, but I suggest you seriously consider my wrods.
