Man...its like a prettier, more refined STi. I consider it the all-around Subaru. I'd get it in a heartbeat. How much is it again? Like mid 20's right? Any insight on how reliable it is? I dunno which one I want now, the Mazda 3, or this. The 3 would be cheaper, but the forrester has the sti motor.....

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Subaru lost my business 2 years ago - we had a 98 Legacy GT Wagon, wanted something sporting yet big enough to haul family and dog. We will NOT sacrifice driving enjoyment just because we need to haul gear with us, and that includes a requirement for having a manual transmission. The 98 GT Wagon was pretty good, had decent space, nice suspension setup, power was marginal, and a manual transmission. When the lease was up, we looked to see what Subaru (Canada) could offer us (2002 model year) - hmm, the latest Legacy GT Wagon was no longer available with a manual transmission. They had the most bizarre model mix, and it was painfully obvious that they had NO clue what a GT model should be or what enthusiast drivers wanted. You could get a Legacy GT sedan with a manual transmission (but no other Legacy sedan model than the GT had a manual). In the wagon style, you could get any other Legacy wagon with a manual except the GT version! WTF!! Talk about clueless... Despite the success of the WRX, it's still obvious that Subaru Canada hasn't got a clue - just look at the problems they've had with WRX automatics sitting on the lots and not moving. Duh, enthusiasts want manual transmissions, but SC and their dealers just don't get it. I'd almost guarantee that if they finally bring the Legacy turbo to North America, they'll push it with an auto only setup - at least in Canada. If they'd have offered the old Legacy GTB (twin-turbo wagon), I'd have been all over that. As it is, our family hauler is an Audi allroad (wagon), 2.7 twin-turbo V6, 6 speed manual, upgraded sway bars. I won't be going back to Subaru for a long, long time! I like their products overseas, and even in the US they offer a better thought out mix, but especially here in Canada Subaru doesn't really understand what enthusiasts want, and they're being reluctantly pushed into stuff like the WRX and STi by the US division.

Gordon

The new version of the Legacy. There's rumours that it will come to the US with a turbo, since the Impreza and Forester already have turbo versions (and the Legacy has had a turbo version in Japan for over 10 years now).

That is a great ad!

And yeah, I know that the same applies to the RX-8 as it does the 350z.

But the Forester still looks like @ss and handles like a shopping cart.

It has been confirmed the turbo version will be here, we're just not sure with which turbo.

Have you driven one? It's a set of tires and some struts and springs away from handling pretty damn well. As is it handles well already for a small SUV, and it's a boost controller away from being able to run with a 90k Cayenne turbo on the strip. It's looks are understated and that's party of the beauty, it's a great sleeper and is going to surprise the heck out of some people.

Ike,
:D That is a VERY funny ad.

I have a friend in Columbus with a Forester-
I'll bet she'll buy the turbo.
She rides around with 2 miniatures and one giant
schnauzer. She has a long drive which neccesitates
a real (not low to the ground) 4WD in the winter as the
drifts can be over a foot at times.

I'll have to admit, that Forester is likely the 1st on my list to replace my wonderful reliable Eagle Summit wagon, the original shopping cart on wheels for me for over 11 years.

And this would be just as ugly (ahemm understated), but WAY MORE FUN!! Bring those weak-engined 350Zs on!:D

Wonderful family acceptable FUN - in a SUV of the RIGHT size - SMALL!

I know you were run out of the performance section at least once, did that not apply across the board? Is there no such thing as a Subaru board? I wouldn't waste any fuel on you with my bike if you tried to instigate 'cause I generally pay no attention to kids in ricers anyways....there are plenty of bigger fish to fry in this metropolis. I believe you were attempting to spell "bitter" above, and yes I am very, can't recall how that "felt-like" material for interior and ride stiffer than a go-kart and navigating with a airplane wing in my review mirror and getting thumbs up from every 16 year old and ....should I continue?

Hats off to Subaru. They sure seem to have there act together with engine design mixing with affordable practical cars and light suvs.Sure they are not the best looking things on the road, but they aint the worst either.I would like to see Toyota and Honda follow in the footsteps of bringing back FI to the US market.Still dreaming about my 06 Supra tt 400 rwhp.

The new Forester will eat my 8 alive 0-60..I have driven it..its no slouch. All it needs is a stiffer suspension setting and stickier tires.. Keep in mind its a de-tuned STI engine 2.5 liter with GOBS of tourque..

That is a great add for the Forester. I still don't think it would ever be on my shopping list, but wow a 25K small sport ute that is almost as quick 0-60 as a stock FD. The Legacy looks great as well, I can't wait to get a good luck at it. I personally like Subaru's product line a whole lot. I agree that they aren't the prettiest cars on the road, but that isn't always the most important thing.

I've never been run out of the performance section, and yes I'm a ricer because I like sleepers rather than slow/heavy 200hp V8s...

In a straight line, the Forester XT is supposed to be as fast, if not slightly faster than, a WRX. It doesn't corner like a WRX, but as others have said, with the right mods it could. The Forester is not for me, but I would consider it if I had kids. I wonder how fast the new Baja Turbo will be.

The Baja weighs a lot more so not as fast, and the XT is faster than the WRX by a little bit. Subaru also underrated the HP, it seems to be more like 240hp (based on dyno runs) rather than the 215 Subaru is claiming.

Its not the horses that make the Forester fast, its the torque. (of course it dosn't hurt either)

The 2.5 liter engine is the key..No replacement for displacement.

The Forester is build off of the impreza chassis. It is basically an impreza with boxes for sheet metal.

I test drove it, its fast and handles pretty good for a SUV. The only problem I have with it is the shifter, it's really rubbery but, with a kartboy short shifter and harder bushings should fix the problem.

there's people even lowering foresters by putting impreza suspension on them ;)

Great advertisement from Suby, good find Ike!

saw one in the ditch on a highway tonight after first 3cms of snowfall.
I guess a Z or a RX-8 owner would be smart enough to slow down or stay home with their rear drive cars instead of qualifying for WRC on public roads

AWD makes people far too cocky in bad weather, and a lot of people just stick with all seasons and even high performance all seasons. I hit a couple snowbanks with my TSI before I learned that lesson, luckily they were big fluffy snowbanks.

That Forester probably had the RE-92s on it..

Ick..

I wish Subaru would at least put a disclaimer on the car saying "These tires suck..watch out."

I cringe every time I walk past a Subie with RE-92s..

Love ya Subaru but damn...help people out by giveing them a better tire right off the lot..

Get going with AWD is great but there is still only 4 tyres to stop just like any other cars.
