WTF?

Did you hit anything?

Don't mash the gas with traction control off around a corner.

AndrewE
03-11-2009, 08:15 PM
releasing the clutch before the brake will cause your rearend to lock, accerating or decelerating will casue you to slide

wow. go into a parking light in the rain and practice some slides, that way when this happens again you will be ready.

Mikoo needs to get a Honda for the winter. Or get snow tires for the 8 :)
The pic you posted looks like snow out. Also its hard for me to spin at 25 mph taking a turn from a dead stop with stretch tires.

I mean, I know from driving my 8, Taking a turn above 35 is very "fun" I'll say. But if you were in like 3rd gear or even 4th. That much of gas just might have been just a great boost of power. From my knowledge or what I can remember 3rd doing 35 is good amount of power.

Atleast you okay, but it is always good to maybe go into a lot and practice in the rain. It can't hurt. You just got your 8 in Feb 2009. You'll have the whole summer to learn how to drive. Rain is similiar to snow...remotely. I remember driving home from my friends dance competition. Good 1/2inch of snow and icy mix. I was on summer tires. Yeah Yeah Yeah I know. I was fishtailing. But I had experience with understanding the cars handling.

Rome wasn't built in a day!

Winter's not over yet, below 20 here. It rained pretty heavily over the past few days, roads were wet when the temps dropped below freezing yesterday, and no salt on the roads since the rain washed it away. Roads were very slick in some places this morning. Just try to be careful for the rest of this winter and definitely buy some winter tires next year.

make sure you keep traction control on; that'll help a lot. also, practice is not a bad idea. i suspect this car has more power that you're used to or you haven't driven rwd before. just take it slowly while you get comfortable.

Well, here in Austin, we went from beautiful Spring-like weather..highs in the 80's to rainy and high's in the mid 40's overnight.... I left the freaking windows open in my study..and only discovered my mistake early this morning. Luckily, my computer didn't get wet.

Typical Texas weather.

those are to give you more weight over your rear wheels == more traction.

i don't think you need it. post pics of your rear tire tread if you can and we can see how they're faring. i know mine slips a lot when my tires are worn down.

i was gunna say... neutral... into a turn? hm.... and if you were in neutral, i mean im no genius or anything but that doesnt engage the drivetrain which means if you did hit the gas... you woulda just shot the rpms up without sending anything to the wheels..

if you're sliding you should leave it in gear...it helps control the car

usually if you're sliding if you let go of the gas while still in gear it will reagain grip, and you're be back on your way like nothing happened.

if you put it in neutral the only thing you can do is slide, and there is no way to prevent hitting something like a tree

what's tricky with french is that you "own" your feelings. it's avoir faim (to have hunger), not etre faim(to be hungry).

soooo "oui cava. je voudrais manger. j'ai faim."

Well I am late to ask this.. but what gear were you in? Because if you were in 1st or 2nd and you gave it too much gas, that would easily give it wheelspin, and if you weren't expecting it then you'd get flung out of control..

did you only get 2 new tires or all 4? it matters which ones you get replaced if it was only 2. plus it is recommended to drive at least 500mi to break the tires in before any hard driving. they have a release agent on them from the molds that needs to wear off.

Well, she said it started to slide and she let off the gas. Trailing Throttle Oversteer, a classic case. When you let off the throttle, the weight balance is shifted to the front of the car. Making the rear end light and causing it to slide even more. If she does have a base model RX8, she doesn't have DSC to counter her mistake. A mistake most drivers on the road will make.

tubingchamp
03-11-2009, 11:02 PM
I can see it being legit if she accidentally put the clutch in while cornering while applying gas then released clutch.

Rofl that would be deadly if you can't drift/countersteer well.

Yeah...untill the next time it happens when it's raining out, and this time you actually go into the curb..The thing is, your an inexperienced driver when it comes to rear wheel drive. If you get on the gas around a corner, the rear tires will spin and if too much power is applied, you will spin out. It seems like you noticed them spinning and jerked the wheel the opposite way, causing you to fishtale. You need to learn the proper way to control a rear wheel drive car in a situation like this again. Therefore, enroll in a local AutoCross. www.scca.com OR find a performance driving school near you, and sign up. You may be laughing about it now, but if it happens again and something goes wrong...well I dont think anybody wants to see that happen.

Not reading the whole thread, but since you said they are new tires... How new? Often times new tires have a break in period, where you will supposedly not get optimal grip until the thin top layer of factory residue gets rubbed off after a few hundred miles.

you could try slowing down. Usually slowing down keeps the back end from coming out. taking tight corners above 30 mph is a recipe for a bad day if you don't have an understanding of car control (and it sounds like you don't.)

(nice trolling btw)
