sandnsun7 03-07-2009, 03:02 PM i noticed you are selling this Simota air intake. is there anyone on the forum that has bought this that can give an opinion on it? Or maybe my search did not pull up a thread right.
Looks interesting and easier to change/clean the filter than a CAI.

sandnsun7 03-09-2009, 12:41 AM the intake i am referring to is not the mishimoto one that is wide and open at the input at the front.
I found it on ebay for sale by RX8strakes.

RotaryFX.com 03-09-2009, 07:45 PM Hello,
We have purchased and sold a limited number of the Simota Charger Intakes so far. We have had positive feedback, including a few people who've mentioned seeing an increase in horse power.

sandnsun7 03-28-2009, 11:05 PM COPY OF POST REPLY UNDER THE INTAKES, INTAKES, INTAKES:
2 years ago,I had the K & N short ram intake (1st gen) on my car, took it off after 6 months because of heat in the engine bay, imo makes it lose performance, esp in the summer, went back to the stock intake with drop in K&N intake. Until today!
This thing is awesome, great sound, great throttle response, does remind me of the short ram intake, however, not as loud. it has a small horn on the front of the intake, of which i am going to duct throuh my front with a flex duct kit. But for now will run it as is.
it was an easy install. all the parts necessary in the box. CF matched my hood and other CF parts. no complaints as of yet, no CEL. Drove around for an hour or so, playing dropping it from 3rd to 2nd at around 4500 rpm, the jump to 8k gives a growl and a throaty roar from under the hood as well as through my RB exhaust.
Thank you Dave, Heather from RX8strakes, I appreciate the quick shipment. will post pics as soon as i convert to smaller images and upload. the next thing i am definitely interested in are the CF side vents you have. the new style ones. hope to be able to order some of those soon.
btw, you are correct, all the parts are included in the kit. I was also very impressed with the quality of the product and how it was built. the aluminum welds looked nice, and all the parts fit perfectly, especially the MAFS mount, it was machined to an exact fit as the oem mount.
one thing I did change was the rubber liner for the bracket. it was blue and did not match my color scheme under the hood. I changed it to black.
azja85 07-05-2009, 01:52 PM did u ever find out how many hp ur rx8 gained after instaling this intake? do u still have it? i'm thinking of gettinng intake to my rx8 but i don't know which one would be the best buy

RE.swenka.RX8 11-20-2009, 08:14 PM All of the Simota intakes I have seen have the big carbon fiber box. Anyone scene one of these?

Chad D. 11-25-2009, 08:21 PM The Round Simota is pretty hot.
Normally the factory RX8 engine cover latches on to the stock intake box. I take it the engine cover cannot be used with the Simota CF intake? Or can it still be used?

How Much; I want it!
can it go on to an AT?
Rotary_Swag 07-23-2010, 08:20 PM I have the round short ram intake version of this. its loud but it's a good sound. It did free up my engine bay and improve breathing(airflow) of the car and have notice better acceleration and low rpm's where it was really needed. so yeah, it does its job as and intake and looks great too.
RandallzRx8 07-31-2010, 10:04 PM Are these available for 2009 model?

larkin 02-24-2011, 12:02 AM What's the difference between: a) Carbon-Fiber Charger Air Intake System - $159 and b) Carbon-Fiber Aero Form Air Intake System - $269?

DBSHINKA8 02-26-2011, 04:58 PM Just ordered my Carbon intake and it should be here by friday!!I'll try to put up a post, possibly with a b4 and after video, but my luck with posting pics on here hasnt been good, so we'll see about the video. O ordered the intake with the carbon funnel, just for reference.
RxCarter 03-05-2011, 02:18 PM Found it on the manufacturers web site purchased and will let you guys know how it goes. Gotta say that the 300 price range is kinda crazy but love the sound.

Probably best to keep links to other vendors off of this vendor's own forum.
How does it sound/perform?

RxCarter 03-07-2011, 02:19 AM No its not the one in the vid is bigger and the air filter is also much bigger as well. The one in the vid is a umnitza. Thats why it says umnitza simota cf intake.

yes the one that rotaryfx sells is the same as the video. their picture on the website does not do it justice, the thing is huge!! anywho, enjoy!
TheWulf 03-07-2011, 09:55 AM I know of several people that own this intake for the Mazda 3. Most of them end up ripping it out within a few months and putting back their AEM. Other than the noise and the CF look, it's really not good for much.
larkin 03-07-2011, 11:45 AM ^^ what about the funnel version; any reason to think that might be better?
Also, not really fair to compare a regular intake with a CAI.

RxCarter 03-08-2011, 12:56 PM HAHA yeah as long as I see a little power gain im fine because the sound i amazing:yumyum:.

You should feel a power gain. I had mine out today after i put it in and noticed a substantial difference at lower rpm's and man does this thing growl as you hit 4500 and continues till redline!!!

djcharlee 03-09-2011, 03:32 AM The one I have is the Mishimoto, but it sounds exactly the same. You will love it. Some motorcycles do a double take, they think its a bike when it gets up and past 7500 Rpm

DBSHINKA8 03-10-2011, 08:35 PM Heres a quick vid of my Simota intake. I am going to try to get a better vid once the weather is nicer, but this will give ya an idea of what it sounds like just tapping the throttle a bit.

Sounds mean! Especially up around 6-8K. I am totally pleased with the performance and the sound. Ive had short rams and cold airs on other cars ive owned but none even come close to the aggressiveness of this one. Definitely recommend this if you are considering an aftermarket intake system.

Ok so I got mine in and my car is a 2004. Where you have that one long bracket that you can see in your video I can not find a single place in my engine bay around the intake to even mount that bracket to it. On top of that the paper work that came with mine says 08+ So does that mean the one I got is not for my 04 and if so whats the dang difference lol?

That bracket goes underneath the clamp that secures your stainless intake tube to the factory flex tube. I havent gotten mine adjusted just right yet. As you prob know it is just a mount for the engine cover, but if you're like me you want your engine cover back on. If not just disregard that bracket, that's all it's for. im no expert but i dont believe anything was changed in the rx8 yet since coming into production besides asthetics. Even so, mine is an 05, n i know they didnt change anything from 04 to 05. Hope this helps.
DBSHINKA8 03-17-2011, 08:31 PM ^^^Oh, btw!! You may want to add some kind of rubber bushing to the mounting clamps to absorb some of the vibration. I toojk mine off to have some service work done and noticed some "spiderwebbing" in the gel coat over the carbon on the bottom side of the funnel housing. "BUMMER" So when i remounted it yesterday i added a bushing to each side and bought longer bolts to reach the factory mounts. I am going to buy a sheet of "Di-Noc" to cover the bottom to prevent it from spreading around the sides or to the top.
Highspeed 05-03-2011, 11:44 PM Can someone tell me that with it saying it is a charger intake...does that mean we have to do something different to it than regular intakes? I have the Simoto charger intake that is the carbon fiber cylinder. Am I supposed to do something to keep it maintained different from a regular intake?
Zero11534 05-12-2011, 02:14 AM I bought this intake from Rotary.FX, about 2 weeks ago now, installation was easy although I had to redo some of the stock tubing to clean it up :-). The Air Filter on the dyno didn't really show much of a gain, the best we could see was 2hp (could be due to the driver on the dyno). But it does sound very nice and mixed with a nice test pipe and a high flow exhaust it might boost up the #'s. The stock stock filter is Junk for airflow and with my RX8 gets dirty fast. The intake is rather larger as it is also long compared to other intakes I have seen for the RX8. It's not as nice as some of the cold air systems but it does utilized all the factory locations and with an added aluminum tubing (built by the user if you can do that sort of thing) it could work as a cold air.
All and All I am happy with it price was right and it sounds a lot more aggressive then the stock intake. I will post a vid soon and I will post pictures tonight. If you want a 300-400 dollar intake buy one but I am not willing to spend that on something that won't make to much diff on our cars (as Mazda really squeezed as much power outta them as they could).
Zero11534 06-20-2011, 04:03 PM Can someone tell me that with it saying it is a charger intake...does that mean we have to do something different to it than regular intakes? @Highspeed: If no one has answered your question here it goes, there is no difference just "Marketing/Name Play" for the intake. It is like a ram air intake on the old muscle cars as it uses factory slots to shove the air into the car. It doesn't give you much gain however I drive my car to work sometimes round trip of 70miles and when I get on 495md(capitol beltway) there can be a lot of traffic; yet I don't have any heat soak, as you get from the K&N so that's a postive.
However apart from the sound and look it doesn't do much. And if your like some of the others afraid the factory engine cover won't work any more, who cares why would you want to hide such a amazing motor under a cover anyways LOL. Best of luck I am going to take pic's in a few moments if it stops raining and I will post a vid tonight.
DBSHINKA8 06-21-2011, 03:36 AM Factory cover still installed ob mine.
lordagrabah 06-21-2011, 11:28 AM Those funky looking metal braces go on the bottom of the intake. They hold the intake up so you don't get the spider webbing. They attach to the two holes on the bottom of your plastic tray.
