LET ASSIST OUR MAZDA IN PROMOTING THE RX8 AROUND TOWN. IF WE CAN ALL GET TOGETHER ONE DAY ABD DRIVE AROUND TOWN, LET SAY AT LEAST TEN 8'S CRUISING AROUND TOWN, HOW MUCH ATTENTION WILL WE GET. I PERSONALY GET ATTENTION ALL THE TIME WHEN CRUSING WITH A FRIEND WHO HAS A YELLOW 8, WOW IMAGINE THE IMPACT TO SEE 10 OR MORE CRUISING TOGETHER. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS THIS MEET LET ME KNOW SO WE CAN SET THIS UP IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Getting 8's to roam around town would be nice. Unfortunately for me I am in the middle east. I will return last week in January.

One of the scenic drives we did for the National Miata Event last year was a moonlight drive around the DC monuments/Capitol and out to Mount Vernon. If there is interest, we could do something like that January 2nd (FRI after 9pm) 3rd (SAT after 6pm) or 4th (SUN day or night). The first weekend in 2004 for the 2004 RX-8;) Renesising in the New Year. More party goers may see us on Friday or Saturday, but it will be more difficult to keep the group together, if we have a good turnout. And it all depends on the weather, too.

Another 'visibility' option would be a convoy of RX-8's driving all the way around the Capital Beltway.

Of course, if we do either of these we really need some folks at strategic points to get great pictures!

Chieferx ,
Hi! I'm interested ....... I like TreknMazda's idea of "a convoy of RX-8's driving all the way around the Capital Beltway. " or something similar where we won't have a problem keeping together.

This is my Idea as well. What do you think about driving the beltway and the major cities such as Arlington, Alexandria, DC, Silver Spring, Rockville, imagine the public when they see us out there, A RX8 CONVOY!!!!

Hi Chieferx,

I followed the beltway part. Clarify on the major cities please. Are we going to get off the beltway and go into the cities down roads with lots of traffic lights? It might be hard to stick together if we have 10 cars.

We'd get the best effect driving in the daytime - what to y'all think?

Hi X-SIN-X,

It's a small world. I saw an RX8 at the Herndon Clock Tower and I looked at the license plate. X-SIN-X it said. Then I logged on yesterday and I saw your post here. Just wanted to say hello.

Hello Gandu.

I have seen a few RX8's around the area. I am currently in the Middle East and won't return until the last week in Jan 04. Can't wait to get home and drive my car. Jealous of you guys who get to drive.

Gandu
12-24-2003, 02:16 PM
I thought I was the only one with the MX3 and RX8. Congrats to you for your MX5 aswell.

It's a pleasure to drive these gorgeous cars.

What do you think of my license plate?

Positron
12-24-2003, 04:11 PM
Hey Gandu, is your car Nordic Green? It looks good. I like the rear accent. I am probably gonna break down and get the front & rear for mine.

Gandu
12-24-2003, 05:25 PM
No it is not green. It is black. I looked at all the colors but the 8 looks best in black. Agree?

Here is another picture of my RX8 in black.

Gandu
12-24-2003, 05:30 PM
No, it's black. I looked at all the cars and found the best color suited for the RX8 to be black. Dont you agree? Here's another one. It shows the color real well.

Merry Christmas to All Here and A Happy New Year.

Positron
12-24-2003, 05:44 PM
Well, the black is very cool. My previous car was black and I was looking for a change, so I went to the Nordic Green. I like the way the Green changes in different light. But the 8 in black is VERY fine.

Here is a picture of mine (people may notice that I've figured out how to post pics and I borrowed my son's digital camera!)

Very nice RX8,

If you had'nt mentioned it, I'd thought that your car was black. Congrats to you. Let's hope that all us RX8 owners can schedule a drive soon. It'd be great on a perfectly sunny day.

Since tomorrow is going to be sunny I'll probably take her out for a spin.

Here's an idea. If we do do the RX8 meet, it'd be great to drive on the FFX Cty Parkway. Wow, just imagine a lot of RX8s driving in a straight line.

Positron,
Hi. I'm up for the meet & greet, but Friday 1/9 is not good for me - please carry on without me if it's good for the rest of you :) .

If you're looking for suggestions on a place to meet - consider the Fuddruckers in Tysons Corner where the Mazda Sportscar Club of Washington meets. See http://www.mscw.com/business.html .

There's plenty of parking in an adjacent office building parking lot so we don't have to worry about dings :) .

Lets do it this Saturday coming up which is 01-17-03 and we meet and greet at 1:00 PM at Peter Farrel Supercars 9141 Centreville Rd` Mannassas VA 20110. The reason is it has a huge parking area. A contact number for me is 571-236-8333. Call me to RSVP so i can have an idea how many people. I will have a, map of areas to visit, but you are free to e-mail the areas you want to DRIVE our 8's and make people want to have one as well.

See you then!!

I did take the RX8 out for a spin today. Hope you all are fine.

Gandu - I think Chieferx is saying NEXT Saturday (1/17/04), so you didn't miss it. Manassas is a loooong way from Arlington, but I am gonna check my schedule and see if I can make it out there. (May need an extra fill up to get back, leave trail of bread crumbs, etc, etc. :D )

I would prefer RX8cited's recommendation to meet at the Fuddruckers at Tysons Corners and then maybe drive from there. It is more central perhaps for folks from East and South.

Opinions on the location??? What about the time???

What time is better 11:00 am or 1:00 pm ?? (I've got a hot date later so I don't want to go past too late. )

Yes, I agree. Manassas is a bit far. Tysons Croner Fudruckers is better. But thats just my opinion.

I think it would be great if we can go for a drive on The FFX Cty Pkwy. Since it is a straight road and we are definately going to turn heads with a lot of RX8s driving in a straight line.

What do you all think?

hey what does the weather look like for saturday? it sounds good but lets talk about the route we are going to take and the time line good for most people, maybe even some stops so that people could ask questions maybe stop by a couple mazda dealerships, make it kind of big so people buying the 8's could probably get in involded... open for suggestion

I know that Manassas is a bit far but yo have to see the parking area, and the point is to drive. Anyhow we can still drive the ffx county pkwy and 66 and 495 and 395. Yes i beleive that we should visit dealerships at least drive by them. The weather for Saturday is clean and clear but alittle cold. Let just keep in Manassas VA. Call me when you get a chance. Augusto @ 571-236-8333.

See you on Saturday at Peter Farrel Super Cars. You will all see thr parking arangments,

Chieferx, I'm sorry but you guys will have to count me out. I'll have to make it on the next RX8 meet. I hope you guys will post some pictures.

Just wanted to add. I've been once to the Peter Ferrell. I believe it was back in 1998 and correct me if I am wrong but the parking lot is not all that big. Am I correct in saying that?

I'm definitely down guys.

I got an important question for you md/va/dc peeps..When you guys got your car did you have a check engine light on? My dealership says they put the wrong gas in there and that it'll go away once I fill it up again. I'm gunna call mazda to check on this. But anyone experience this?

Positron
01-21-2004, 09:44 PM
Never heard of the "wrong gas" causing a check engine light. Sounds REALLY bogus. What gas is the "wrong gas"? What dealer was this?

Prescription8
01-21-2004, 10:08 PM
Brown's arlington... The service manager dude told me this info. They were saying certain additives could cause the problem...I was wondering if they put 87 in there ors something. they were saying that when they hook the car up to the computer it says the problem is with the CAT. They had this problem apparently a bunch of times and first they just ordered new cats but then Mazda apparently wanted them to stop ordering them and told the dealer the problem wasn't the cat, but with the gas put in the car. I tried calling mazda...I wanna talk to them personally about this. It's bullcrap buying a brand new car and having the engine light already on BEFORE I even modded it hah. But they're closed, I'll call them tomorrow. Anyway, I think it might be bogus too. We'll see...

Positron

Keep us posted. We are definitely interested. BTW, I've put 87, 89, and 91 octane in my car and have seen virtually no difference in mileage, performance, or lights going on. (Ok, with 87 the car knocks some and I prefer to put the higher octane in.)

I don't know about Browns. I use Arlington Mazda (at Ballston) or Rosenthal at Tysons. You might call the other dealerships and ask them too.

TreknMazda
01-21-2004, 11:19 PM
I don't think I would accept the car if the 'check engine' light was on. But that's just me.

As for gas, I used 93 for the first 24 tanks and 87 for the next 30 tanks. CEL has not put in an appearance. Maybe diesel would make the light come on:eek:

Sounds ridikilous! Maybe it was lemonade. Or -- the manual, as I recall, says don't use fuels more than 10% oxygenated -- maybe they did.

Hi TreknMazda,
What are your observations on the differences in your car between using 93 and 87 octane? I used 91 for the first 2 tanks then 87 for the next 12 or so. I've stayed with 87 because the car handles fine and it's less expensive.

Thanks,

Where did you find 91 octane? I was so excited that my car didn't require premium and I could save a few bucks, but all the gas stations around here have either 89 or 93.

Hi Peakster,
I use Shell
http://www.countonshell.com/products/product_info/gasoline_octane_grades.html

I'm pretty sure the Shell Premium flavor around here is 91 octane (according to the URL above, it varies by market and could be 92 or 93).

Why do I use Shell? Their 5% off Shell gas, 1% off other purchases no-fee credit card:

For me, tomorrow will be the first test of a snifter of brandy and a log on the fire.
There is no way I'm going to risk the RX in 8 inches of snow and that is deeper than the Miata is tall, so I'm not going anywhere.

shebam

You're right that (even AWD) cars do not make good snowplows -- as we learned with my wife's 325xiT last Feb.

TreknMazda
01-26-2004, 09:58 AM
What a lovely morning...NOT! But the LM22 Blizzacks did their job magnificently! I cleared 4 to 6 inches of snow off the car this morning. Put it in gear and drove over the mini snow drifts I had created. Conditions ranged from 2 inches of packed snow to barely visible pavement. I don't believe the DSC ever engaged. The only hint of slipping was in first gear. 2nd thru 4th were no problem. I chose not to go higher or faster than 50.

Hopefully, I will get off work before freezing rain starts and makes it a whole different ballgame. But I am confident that the RX-8 will do well with prudent speed and sufficient space from the non-prudent drivers around me.

rx8cited,
I did not notice any performance difference from 93 to 87 octane. The mpg average for 93 was 19.8 (which included my trip to Arkansas) and 18.5 on 87 (which is mostly DC rush hour with stop'n'go to 80mph and everything in between). I have just gone back to 93 octane to continue my emperical data research.

Shell may have a card that gives 5% off on their gas, but AAA has a card that gives 5% off on any gas. The only catch is that you have to pump the gas yourself -- meaning that it doesn't work on the New Jersey turnpike, for instance, where the attendant does the pumping and takes the card from you to enter the charge.

I just use the card on trips, because a cash-only station in Washington, DC, where I live, gives more than 5% off prevailing prices there. It's nice to have for non-Jersey Pike trips, though.

Mitch,

The AAA card sounds like a better more flexible card ... is the card free like the Shell card? Do you have to be a AAA member to get it?

Thanks,

The card is free, but I don't know if you have to be an AAA member. I happen to be one, but I get lots of card solicitations without being members of the group putting out the card. You could ask AAA.

Getting the card requires AAA membership according to:

Seems like a decent deal for AAA members - which I'm not.
