I've did searches and found many issues about a burnt clutch but nothing on a price range... Maybe I suck.. but

I had my car towed to a Mazda service center, and they told me I needed to replace my clutch/flywheel for estimated $1500... does this sound about right? I've been told that a $600-$800 price range was what some people were getting.

Would it be something better for me to buy the parts myself and just pay for labor.. should I search around some, or does that estimate sound about right? I don't mind a +\- difference in pricing if it isn't too bad. Just don't want to pay super crazy high if I don't have to.

There's nothing 'special' about replacing the RX-8 Clutch, that a qualified General Automotive garage couldn't do well. Look for independent shops in your area. If you can't find one that works on RX-7's, then look for a shop that does real mechanical work (not just oil changes) on rear wheel-drive cars like BMW's. You can even provide them with the appropriate pages from the shop manual (eg: bolt sequence for re-attaching and aligning the PPF).

Ask around in your local area; make a posting on your regional forum on this site.

Parts - speak to the garage. Some can't install customer-supplied parts for liability reasons. Make the introduction between them and, say, Charles R. Hill (a forum vendor).


Oh, you might want to reply and let people know what city you are in. I've seen a lot of members here from Texas. Chances are you'll get a shop recommendation very soon.

i would look into act hd clutch i love mine it is around 300 bux, then act prolight flywheel which is about 300 bux w/ counter wieght. you around 600 bux there then labor is around 300-400 dollars to install, now for 900 dollars your have a better clutch, lighter flywheel and still cheaper then what you would pay the dealer to install oem shit. :)
