Hey guys, I'll be in Tokyo from the 23rd till the 29th. I wanted to possibly try and spectate a hill/mountain car racing scene or maybe even just a street drifiting scene... Just want to check out what Japanese people do with their cars to push them to their limits.
Is this possible at this time of the year (just thought it might be too cold or something). If it is, where can I go check it out? Is it some sort of a secret underground thing that I'd have to be "in the know" to be able to?

Any pointers? Anybody living in Tokyo on this forum?

thanks!

Go to Hakone mountain, an hour of road south Tokyo there is a pay s-bended highway..on saturday a lot of people who really like to drive go for it: they climb on the top of mountain (end of the road), go down and do it another time...

Yeah, someone on another forum also mentioned Hakaone. How hard is it to go there from shinjyuku? I don't suppose any public transportation (minus taxi) will be suitable for his venture

No way....it's hard w/ public transports
Rent a bike and take chances....
You must have a transport to see something

I think "Ashinoko-skyline"(toll road) is best in Hakone.
But...If you want to see it, since the road in Hakone is crowded in the daytime, you must go there in the early morning at Sunday. ...6AM or 7AM
It very cold in Hakone of winter, Since it is close to Mt. Fuji, and the road surface sometimes has frozen.

All are impossible if there is no car to you.
other way
1 reserve a hotel in Hakone.
2 rent a bicycle.
3 get up at 4:00AM and go there.
(...sorry..."Ashinoko-skyline" is Driveway, only for car and moto-bike.
please find out to other load in Hakone.) :D

thanks

So people race early in the morning like 7AM on Sunday?? I guess it's different from Initial D where they seem to race at night. ^^;

Doo--mo!!

From Tokyo to Hakone, it takes about 2 hours (by car).

I think, "Takumi" is making a "tohfu" at home in winter. :D
Surely, many guy drive at midnight. That will be because there are few other cars. ......and the police-car.
It is too dangerous to drive the mountain path in Japan on high-speed at midnight of winter.
The "Akagi -road" to which "Takumi" went to fight is closed in the season of winter. (Akagi-road is not Hakone)

If you are interested in RX-8, please extend stay till January 4.
and If you come to the "Daikoku Parking Area" of a "metropolitan-highway" (Japan called "Syuto-koh"), on January 4 2004, you will be able to meet around 50 RX-8.

Thanks

Is there something going on at Minami Senzoku?
I am from Ootaku, right by the Haneda Airport.
I was there until 1998, things might have changed since then, but there're not much going on at Minami Senzoku when I was there.

I usually went to see Drifting in Ooi Futo (Ooi pier). They had over 50 drifters gathered on weekends. I believe they pretty much closed down the Ooi because of the noise complaint.

Funny and true story: Me and my buddy went out to see drifting in my father's car (MB 300E) and my buddy was driving. He got very excited when he watched those drifters, he wanted to try it on my father's MB. Well, having done that myself, I let him do it. So we waited until the police came and chase real drifters away, then we tried it at the same intersection to drift. What we didn't know was there're police patrol car hiding near by and as my buddy was doing a nice power slide, we saw a red light flashing in the distance. Since my buddy was a taxi driver, he couldn't afford to get a reckless driving ticket, so we drove to next intersection and swapped seat. By the time police got to us, I was in the driver's seat. Sure enough, they cuffed us and shoved in back of patrol car. Police preached us for over half an hour, gave ME the ticket, and let us go. Of couse, my buddy paid for the ticket. Since I didn't drive in Japan (but had license) I didn't care if I had points taken off.

Come to think of it, it's not that funny afterall.......

wow... sonnani tooindesuka??? I guess I would def. have to ask somebody for a ride...

So how much of a chance is there to actually be able to see a car racing happening at 7 AM in the morning in Hakone? Is it possible that I go there and nothing is happening? Also, where exactly should I be going in Hakaone?

I think "Ootaku Minami senzoku" is a quiet residential street.

They are called "Rolling-Zoku" in Japan.
"Zoku" meaning is CLan.
Since police patrol is strict control over violation of traffic rules,
they cannot run in "Ooi - Futoh", now.

In many cases, they drive midnight "metropolitan Expressway" (Syuto-koh) and compete for a time and show off his car.

Thank you for telling your interesting story.

I ended up checking out the hashiriyas on shutoko highway! No drifting, but still quite interesting to see everyone loooking at the huge electronic board for traffic then heading out to speed. (kinda dangerous, but I guess that's how they like it) :D
