View Full Version : Bought my first car, used RX-8 :)
krazy 02-27-2009, 03:24 PM Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that you have another RX-8 fan in the forum now :)
I bought my black 2004 RX-8 4 days ago and I'm so happy it's crazy, hehe... It's a really fun car to drive and as my first car it's really far beyond what I could imagine I'd be able to afford... I was originally looking at Audi A3, BMW 3 Series etc.. But then I saw my car advertised with an asking price I could afford it'd be stupid not to have a test-drive. So it was actually the first of many cars I tried, but I knew after driving it that this was going to be my car :) I'm so proud of it that it's hard to explain, hehe...
I've been reading up on FAQs / general threads here about care etc. so I'll be sure to ask questions if I'll have any (after searching of course).
Btw, the car is a 192 BHP, GT version, with 190 000 KMs (yeah I know, but I couldn't afford one that had less mileage). Lovely black paint and generally in great condition :)
I attached some pics I managed to take after washing it. Sorry for the quality, took the pics with my HTC Diamond :) Last one shows parking outside where I live, pretty sick to drive a car with 18" rims when there's been like 50 CM (20 inches) of snow here...
All in all I'm really happy and I hope to have the car a few more years and maybe make some money off it (got a pretty good deal) and buy a newer model :)
JRichter 02-27-2009, 03:25 PM Welcome and congrats. Looks great.

hughtwg 02-27-2009, 08:54 PM Nice, so are you running snow tires all year round?
AAChaoshand 02-27-2009, 08:58 PM love her and ride her hard man that can be taken the wrong way but I agree. Beat it up!
Don't dis your ride like that! It's not used...it's "experienced". :)
See...like I say...drive an 8 just once and you get spoiled. The other cars never even had a chance.
Congrats Krazy! You did the right thing.
shazy 02-27-2009, 09:00 PM Is it a 5 speed?
Anyway Congrats on the car. The paint looks in really good shape even if at 118 000 miles.

From the description he gave, it seems to be a 4 speed automatic. But hey, nothing wrong with that if you prefer it :)

Only reason I think it's a 5 speed manual is because of the Triangular light on the triangle thing on the bumper and Europe and Asia has that.
Alexb 02-27-2009, 11:30 PM My 8 is also my first car. I love it. I'll drive it until it dies (even if it is terrible luck, bebn hit 3 times and robbed once, all in 4 months!) You will not regret it. Now get some silver fender vents and chrome strakes. The ladies love it ;)
dondo 02-27-2009, 11:35 PM welcome!!
krazy 02-28-2009, 03:15 AM Nice, so are you running snow tires all year round?
Nah, I have snowtires on 18" and summertires on 18" TSW wheels :)
We usually change to summertires here in april/may.

Yep, you're correct, it's a 5-speed manual. Gotta love manual shifting :) Not really a fan of automatics in sportscars.
mikesol 02-28-2009, 12:45 PM Seriously 190,000 kms? Damn, son, that engine is holding up well!
Ryoma-kun 02-28-2009, 01:40 PM Grats and welcome to the club. Good to see some 8's with high mileage. :)

Yeah, it only had one previous owner who was a salesman for HellyHansen clothing. He basically drove around the whole country promoting their products :)
All the services etc. were paid for by the company, so whenever there was even a slight problem he'd drop it by the nearest dealer not worrying about the costs :)
All I need now is to go to a Mazda dealer to buy some quality oil and check if has all the latest software upgrades installed :)

Be ready to pay your ass of for that oil. 1000kr atleast ;p

ShadowRx8 02-28-2009, 05:31 PM Very Nice and Welcome to the addiction
Ryoma-kun 02-28-2009, 05:32 PM Btw what did you pay for it? In Norwegian Kroners?
riveraRX8 02-28-2009, 06:29 PM I wanted to ask a question. I just got my RX8 a few months ago and i wanted to lower the ride height. I was giving a set of DROPZONE Springs for free that lower the car about 2' . My car is completely stock with 18' rims. What do you guys recommend i add to the springs to make sure everything is good ? I'll take any suggestions.

You have any other suggestions? I noticed the manual said "Mazda recommended oil" or something :s
And how often do you fill the oil? On every second gas-fillup?
krazy 03-01-2009, 05:37 AM Btw what did you pay for it? In Norwegian Kroners?
I got it for 180 000,- even though the asking price was 199 000,-. I just told him I had a friend who was willing to sell his for 220 000,- with alot less mileage :)
Ryoma-kun 03-01-2009, 07:09 AM Nice... That's not bad at all. And no, I don't really have any other suggestions regarding the oil. I think we'll just have to pay for that overpriced shit :/ I'm sure other oils work but I think the best and most safe solution is to go with the recommended one. I check my oil level each third gas-fillup or so and adding when it's neccessary.
krazy 03-01-2009, 08:04 AM Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Thanks for the help :)
krazy 04-07-2009, 12:58 PM Just got a package in the mail from RX8Strakes.com :D
Bought a new shift-knob in silver & the silver rotor logo/design on the front of the car, looks really cool. Can't wait for the summer to arrive here so I can check out my 19s :) Wondering whether I should drop the ca / buy some springs too, but I got speed-bumps in my neighborhood and it almost scrapes the undercarriage each time :/
Anyone have any tips on what to "do" with the car next? I was thinking about tinting the windows. Not a big fan of the side-intake strakes, I don't think it looks that good :p
I was also really interested in the iPod conversion thing, but it seems that it requires quite a lot of work? Is it hard to do for someone with "little" car mechanic experience? :)
