I'm considering a set of aftermarket rims (Buddy Club P2's) sized 18x8 with offset of 38mm, 5x114.3 bolt pattern.
The seller believes they will fit an RX-8 okay, but I'm a little concerned that the 12mm (nearly 1/2") difference in offset over the OE rims may push the rims too far outward and cause sidewall rubbing.
I know the mfr. makes the rim in a 45mm offset, but most sellers don't seem to want to bother with rwd offsets unless the rims are a little higher-end.
Opinions of those more familiar than me with RX-8 fitments are welcome. Should I hold out for an offset closer to 50mm in this size?
Thanks in advance,

Anybody tried an alternate 18x8 fitment?
just totally off topic.. but good choice on ur rims :)
just curious to know what's the stock offset for the rx8...
cuz i'm pretty sure the buddy club p1 racing II, comes in 35/45 offset for the 18x8

Stock rims offset is 50mm. That's why I'm thinking the 45mm offset in the rims I'm looking at would be a safer switch than the 35mm ones.

No problem with this fitment, you still can afford a little more offset, +35 for the front and +30 for the rear with 8" width. I am using 18 x 8.5, +40, prefect!

WHen I used 18x8.5 +40, I had to roll the rear fenders to make them fit. Under hard cornering they would gently rub the outer edge of the fender.

Thanks guys. I've also emailed the Buddy Club people in Japan to ask them what fitment to use for RX-8. I'll let you know if they reply. Hope they're more responsive than some stateside web purveyors.

First Inc., mfr's of the Buddy Club rims, says I should go with the 38mm offset for 18x8.
That being said, I found out that the Buddy Club P1 Racing II Plus rims being offered on Ebay are not the 2-piece P1 Racing II's that are pictured on the First Inc. site, altho they're inserted in the Ebay auctions. The Racing II Plus is a 1-piece cast rim that's apparently being offered in the US only. Don't know much more than that because none of the Ebay sellers are all that responsive to questions.
The P1 Racing II Plus pictured in some of the auctions appears to have a notably thicker spoke than the original 2-piece rims, and a much narrower polished lip as well.
AJ Racing in Canada told me on the phone today that I'd need to pay about $600 CDN each for the 2-piece P1 Racing II's.
I'm gonna pass on the Ebay cast rims since I can't get any more info about them. Too bad. Enkei here I come.
