http://www.vividracing.com/main/speedborla.mov

eclps0 12-15-2003, 09:30 AM nice vids
slavearm 12-15-2003, 11:39 AM Nice Flames!!! That was sick.
Speed Racer 12-15-2003, 02:28 PM I kind of liked this still frame from the video. :D
racerdave 12-15-2003, 02:38 PM So is that just further proof as to how rich Mazda is running this car??
Speed Racer 12-15-2003, 02:42 PM racerdave,
I'm planning on installing Canzoomer's fuel controller to lean out the air/fuel mixture. Afterwards I'll let you know if the flames disappear for good.
racerdave 12-15-2003, 03:37 PM Speed... just call me Dave. :)
I'm real interested in hearing how 'Zoomer's piggyback works for everyone. That one is sounding sweet.
XDEEDUBBX 12-15-2003, 03:49 PM hey speed..i've seen your video about a dozen times and finally noticed your rims...in the begining you had stock rims then the drive by shot you have aftermarket wheels...???
Speed Racer 12-15-2003, 03:55 PM I was wondering if anyone had noticed that the video was actually two clips that were filmed at different times.
The first part is where the first Borla sound clip came from and the second was my attempt to see what all of the commotion was about (a guy behind me at a Miata meet said that he saw flames and I just had to see what he was talking about). So I setup the video camera again and the rest is history. ;)
fullets 12-15-2003, 04:56 PM the first video is a bbrx exhaust kit and it cost arround 600$ and the second one is a borla kit and it cost arround 500$
tribal azn2 12-15-2003, 08:13 PM how u get them sick ass flames yo
Speed Racer 12-15-2003, 08:36 PM Tribal azn2,
Warm up engine
Get the exhaust red hot by running the car over 6k RPMs for several minutes
Come to a stop or at least keep it under 60 MPH (slower = bigger flames)
Rev it hard (WOT) and lift off on the throttle quickly
INSTANT FLAMES!!!
As you can see, it is not easy to get flames because the conditions have to be perfect to ignite the unburnt fuel. Likewise I have not seen any damage to the paint or body work on the car but your mileage may vary. :p
If the pig rich fuel maps are corrected the flames will probably go away for good.

JeRKy 8 Owner 12-15-2003, 10:29 PM The BB exhaustsounds too ricey in those videos like a Honda lawnmower muffler sound I dontlike it at all guys. The Borla has more of a growl butyou dont get to hear it drivingthrough the street so it may sound just as bad I hope not. The flames are great

SPD-FC 12-18-2003, 03:11 PM do you have the cats in it?
Speed Racer 12-18-2003, 03:14 PM Yes, the stock cat is still in place and the only thing that is different from stock is the Borla cat-back exhaust.
Velocity-8 01-20-2004, 09:10 AM So if you install a set of spark plugs right before the tips I wonder if you can get it to rip flames all the time (when WOT).
emailists 01-20-2004, 09:34 AM someone mentioned the ricey sound of the aftermarket exhausts.
To me none of the ones I heard samples of sounded good!
I have a geddy catback on my Probe GT and that sounds great. I will not be doing an exhaust on the 8 after hearing the samples. Looks like Canzoomers ECU is all that I will do for some time (I ordered it and don't even have my replacement 8 yet from th ebuyback- (maybe I'll do stage 2 at some point- CZ said the sound should be about the same as stock)

then what will you use to make spark from the plug?
wannarace8 01-23-2004, 05:04 PM dude...i dl'ed the vids for my personal enjoyment and they're totally sick! my question is, where did you get those rims or better yet who makes them, what size are they, and how much did they cost?
Speed Racer 01-23-2004, 07:49 PM wannarace8,
In the second part of the video you can see my winter wheels. They are 17" Kazera KZ-V (http://www.tirerack.com/servlet/CallJsp?target=wheelSearchCloseUp&sizeIndex=1&wheelIndex=21&showRear=no&setIndex=4&filterSpecial=&sizeIndex=0&sizeIndex=1&filterFinish=&filterSize=&showRear=no) and you can find them for $129 at Tire Rack.
In my opinion I think you would be hard pressed to find a better looking rim for less money. ;)
Petrus 12-03-2004, 04:47 PM Anyone who´s got the flames-video and would like to host it... Vividracing doesn´t seem to host it any more. :( I want to see it!!! :D
Speed Racer 12-03-2004, 08:28 PM I've got the file. Just log into my website and check the Video folder for Borla Flame.mov
FYI - you will need a recent version of Quick Time to view the video.

foxman 12-03-2004, 09:09 PM cant get login/pass to work
Speed Racer 12-03-2004, 09:24 PM Hmm... That's weird. It seems to work when I try it from here. So I don't know what to tell you other than double checking the spelling. :(
Petrus 12-03-2004, 09:59 PM Works like a charm...=) Thanx!
JeRKy 8 Owner 12-03-2004, 10:03 PM Are youguys still ableto do this after the Mflash?
Speed Racer 12-04-2004, 07:31 AM As far as I know, it hasn't happened again since I leaned out the A/F ratio with my Canzoomer.
In comparison the M flash still runs very rich in the higher RPMs. It may be enough to still pull off this trick.
mtnpass 12-04-2004, 07:58 AM Thanks speedracer, nice vid.....have been looking forward to repost on that one. Thank you for sharing
Mr. Ed's rx-8 12-04-2004, 04:30 PM yeah my car has been putting out some nice flames lately...i need to get my friends digicam to get some shots of it.
Overport 12-04-2004, 05:27 PM For some reason, the vids arn't working for me. The page says it is no longer available.
truemagellen 12-04-2004, 05:46 PM yup I think he overdid his bandwidth...anyone want to email it to me?
bigblockbeater 12-04-2004, 06:24 PM So is that just further proof as to how rich Mazda is running this car??
according to the cheif mechanic at Mazsport in Florida it is designed to run rich for the first 10,000 miles. after that it will get 4 more mpg and 15 more hp.
mysql101 12-04-2004, 06:25 PM bigblock, what evidence does he have of this?
bigblockbeater 12-04-2004, 06:27 PM i will have to ask him on monday
mysql101 12-04-2004, 06:30 PM mazsport will do the lightweight flywheel install for $240.
ferman mazda will do the install for $467.
I might be visiting them, but even though I'm going to have the mazdaspeed flywheel installed, I think if I go with mazsport I may void some warrantees. Anyone know?
sorry for the offtopic post :)
expo1 12-04-2004, 06:35 PM yup I think he overdid his bandwidth...anyone want to email it to me?
I can host that vid without any bandwidth issues, Email it to me if interested.
Alphi 12-11-2004, 12:31 PM These flames will only come out with an aftermarket exhaust huh?
mysql101 12-11-2004, 12:33 PM you can get flames on a stock exhaust too.
dannobre 12-11-2004, 12:35 PM I temporarily added a bunch of fuel with the CZ ......and boy did it shoot flames..........:D
Alphi 12-11-2004, 12:38 PM you can get flames on a stock exhaust too.
But It won't be like those big of a flames!!! :)
truemagellen 12-11-2004, 01:27 PM But It won't be like those big of a flames!!! :)
I'm not so sure...I have another video in my collection with flames shooting out on the track...but it is from the back so it is much harder to see
Plus M flash probably killed this possibility...CZ is the only way (well Rick Shaw unit but I'm not that rich :))
little666devil 12-30-2004, 08:26 PM This is the first time I have ever seen those flames, I have heard about them for sooo long, but no videos have ever worked, but now that I have seen it, I WANT TO KNOW HOW TO DO IT!!!! Has anyone done it with stock exhaust and have videos for it?
