View Full Version : RX8 price vs 350z price, quite a big difference in Canada.
Captain_Ron 12-14-2003, 01:04 PM The base 6-Speed RX8 you can buy is $36,795
The base 6-Speed 350z you can buy is $44,900
If you count in taxes thats a $10,000 difference.
If you count in the RX8 selling horribly here, you can probably get quite a bit off the $36,795.
The RX-8 is selling horribly in Canada??? This is news to me, I had a hell of a time getting mine, there just aren't any around in my area.

yeah, i'm out driving a LOT, and i've seen a total of 3 different RX-8's ever. (one was at the dealership on Hastings)
Since they're only bringing in 600-700 RX-8's into Canada means you aren't going to see many. Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they're not selling well, there's just so few of them around. I kinda like it this way, makes it a bit more of an exclusive car.
Captain_Ron 12-14-2003, 03:46 PM I live in Victoria, BC. I've seen 4 RX8s, all sitting at the dealership. I have yet to see one on the road.
I've seen every single color of 350z, including sunset orange and blue and white!!! Sure it has been out for a year, but it selling far better. Hell even if you want a used 350z there is a nice market.

Please define what you mean by "selling better". In greater volume? Certainly, the 350Z is selling in greater volume, simply because there are far, far more 350Zs available for sale. As was mentioned - Mazda Canada artificially restricted supply of the 2004 RX-8 to only 700 units. They're going to sell every single one of those, and could have easily sold double or triple that number if they had made them available.

mental pimp 12-14-2003, 05:13 PM sorry to ask, but, why are the prices for stuff extremely high in Canada? and im comparing the prices to the prices in the U.S
cueball 12-14-2003, 05:43 PM The canadian dollar is worth less than the U.S. dollar. Hence the apperance of higher prices.
Captain_Ron 12-14-2003, 05:57 PM Actually cars are very cheap in Canada.
They were even cheaper 6 months ago when the Canadian Dollar was .63, so 36,795 x .63 = 23k US
You could have gotten a base RX8 in Canada for 23K 6 months ago, not bad.
8_wannabe 12-14-2003, 06:00 PM yeah, he's quoting canadian dollars, not us dollars.

Damn that really is a huge difference. Here in the states the base prices for both cars are within $1000. Either Nissan is screwing you Canadians, or Mazda is being really nice to you guys. If its the latter, I'd pick up an 8 right away! That is interesting though for the higher priced car to sell more, especially if its true what the other guy said about there being several 8's sitting on dealers lots.
mental pimp 12-14-2003, 09:47 PM ohhh ok, cool
Captain_Ron 12-14-2003, 10:42 PM Yea I've seen 4 sitting at my local dealership too. I haven't seen one on the road yet.
The reason the 350Z seems expensive here in Canada is our base model is different than the base model in the US, ours has more options. Nissan Canada limited the model line-up here so we can't get the stripped down cheaper version that Americans can get. Sort of the same as how Mazda didn't give us Nordic Green or any coice of interior colors.

What do you mean "too"? You're the only one in this thread that said you've seen 4 sitting unsold on your local dealer's lot.

Captain_Ron 12-15-2003, 12:19 AM Yea okay, sorry the car is selling like crazy.
i see about 4 of them all lined up on the front lot at a dealership here...i don't know if they have anymore in the back and i'm sure they have at least one on the showroom floor...those cars have been sitting there for over a month...so no, i don't think they're exactly "selling out" here in the Midwest

Yeah, but you're in the US, where Mazda North American Operations has stated that they'll be readily available and will sell as many as possible. That's completely different than here in Canada, where Mazda Canada has said 700 for the year, and that's all, no matter what the demand.

Gordon

Comparing similarly equipped models, the RX-8 is close to $3k cheaper than the Z. For example, the RX-8 GT 6MT is $31k and the Touring Z is nearly $34k (and the Z doesn't include a sunroof for this price). The $27k base model RX-8 has most of the features of the $31k Performance model Z.
Also, a similarly equipped G35c is about $4k more than an RX-8.

Quite right, however don't forget that the base model RX8 for $27k only gets you the 190hp trim, while the base model Z for $26k still gets you the same 287hp trim. The RX8 is arguably a better or equal value in most trims except base in my opinion.

Actually, assuming we're talking American $ here, the base model for $27,200 is the 6spd- the auto is the cheaper one at $25,700.
