My car is at 900km I looked up for the oil dipstick toda.y It seemed to me as it was at the last point so I added 1/2 liters of oil now it is overfilled, what should I do now , I looked at the oil pressure gauge it is still the same. I think I could not understand the dipstick, how will I read it properly ?
does the oil pressure gauge help us anyways, is it possible that oil level is low but pressure is ok , how does it help us about the level ?
And I want oil recommendation by brand name and viscosity, it maybe castrol, shell, mobil, because mazda service doesn't now not to use synthetic oil in this engine!! They looked at me like cows when I said it, it also says in the manual....

Some searching here will answer all your questions in more detail then you could ever want.

In short, each mark on the dipstick is a quarter of a quart. If you really overfilled it badly, you can always drain the oil and re-fill it (doing your own oil changes is something you should learn how to do. It's easy). If it's just a bit over the highest mark on the dipstick, don't worry about it. Oil foaming is not a problem with the Renesis AFAIK.

The oil pressure gauge is a dummy that detects pressure or no pressure. If the needle moves, you've got oil pressure. How much, you cannot tell from the stock gauge.

Factory reccomends 5w20 in the US, and 5w30 in the rest of the entire world. Some people here use thicker grades. Synthetics have not been tested on the Renesis engine, and since the engine burns oil and I'm changing it every 3000 miles anyways, I stick with dino oil. Synthetic definitely maybe probably won't hurt your engine. It's a subject of vitriolic debate. Personally, I think that 5w20 is to thin.

One more thing. Dealers tend not to know a lot about the RX-8. Take their information with a grain of salt, just like you should with any of the information you find here.

The oil pressure gauge means nothing, it only has two positions, zero and a little over half. It won't tell you much of anything about how much oil you have, unless you have none at all.

What makes you think it's overfilled? Can you post a pic of the dipstick? If there's too much, you can just drain some out.

Synthetic oil is fine, as long as you use the right kind. But you're going to get toasted asking about oil. Search. Lots of info there.

I've read about oil in this forum but I wanted to learn if there is any brand you prefer for this machine. I've read the manual and know what the marks on the dipstick means but I still misread it, dipstick seems all oily (yes I wiped it first) when I pulled it so I looked at the thicker oily part and add some then it became over the max point.
They must do something more hi-tech instead of dipstick or pressure gauge (if it is really on/off kind of thing) for me like retards..

If you over-fill it abit it won't harm anything.. It's a rotary, it will burn off.

Too much oil can be a problem, but a much bigger problem is not knowing how to read the dipstick. The dipstick is the only way to tell how much oil you have. If you rely on your oil pressure gauge, your car will die.

Overfilling CAN be a problem... what year is your car?
Oil in the intake, MAF, then into the throttle body, Coating everything with oil is bad. Leads to problems.

I suggest draining out the oil and starting over again.

You need to read the section of the manual that explains reading the dipstick.. it explains the volume difference b/t the high and low marks, so if you read it correctly, you should be able to tell how much oil is needed when it looks a bit on the low side....

Draining the oil and doing an oil change will NOT void your warranty.

If you're worried about the warranty when you take it to the dealership, don't ask for a specific oil, just take whatever the dealership wants to put in. Better yet, buy the oil you want and change the oil yourself. It's just loosening a drain plug and pouring some more oil in.

Please, please learn to read the dipstick. It is a MUST with a rotary engine.

I would not worry about 1/2 quart. If it was more than 1 quart I would:

Just disconnect the hose from the the oil spout that runs to the air intake.

After a few hundred miles re-connect it.
