Sorry guys, no RX-8 for me. I love the car but I just need something with a bigger trunk since I ride horses and I need the extra space for saddles and whatnot. So I'm looking into the Mazda6 and the WRX and the mazda6 has great looks and a nice interior, but it is FWD and has almost no aftermarket products. The WRX doesn't have as nice an interior but it does have a slightly more powerful engine and has a lot of aftermarket support. Which would you guys recommend.

Both are fantastic cars, and you can't really go wrong with either.

The 6 has a lot more interior and trunk space than the WRX. I like the styling on the 6 better, and the 6 has a higher quality interior.

But the WRX has that great boxer-4 with a big turbo on it :) If you plan on taking the car to the track or racing, the WRX is the better choice. It's lighter, AWD, and has much more aftermarket support.

For a daily driver....it's a tough call. I think I'd take the WRX. Can't go wrong with either.

Don't listen to me or anyone else though. Go drive 'em!

Have you checked out the WRX wagon?

There would be lots of saddle space in one of those.

Yeah, seems like the WRX wagon is right up your alley, or even a forester XT if you want even more room and something even faster stock (with a sacrifice in handling). The Saab 9-2 is coming out next year as well and is a WRX wagon with a different shell. There's also the Legacy wagon, Legacy Sedan and I believe the Mazda 6 hatch on the horizon. The Mazda 6 is a great car for the money, my best friend has one, it handles really well for a FWD sedan. The acceleration is pretty good though not nearly as much fun as the WRX, and the tuning potential on any of the Subaru cars will far eclipse that of the Mazda 6 by far.

Subaru Forester XT (turbo), has basically the same engine as the STI (different turbo, exhaust plumbing, intercooler, ECU).

I have a WRX wagon and I say it is the best purchase of any scope that I have ever made. Mind you, not my favorite-just the best. No doubt I would pick it over the 6 without reservation.

How vain are you? If you value looks at all, go for the 6.

There's a hatchback version coming very soon, and rumors are still swirling about a turbo kit eventually. There you have it, space and mod potential you desire.

There are virtually no mods available for the 6...

Nothing yet. The only requirements that I see here are:

1. Large trunk or hatchback
2. Nice interior
3. Aftermarket parts (still don't know why/what/where, etc...)

Remember that Ike is our resident WRX troll (I mean that with hugs and kisses, too!)

Aren't they making a 6 sedan where the rear lifts up like a hatchback? Or was that just a prototype at a show?

Either way, I'm sure that whatever you choose, you'll be happy with ;)

Ike, also I thought that Suby was just supplying the transmissions for Saab. That's what I recall from some internet literature I read a few months back.

The Saab is a WRX in Saab clothing, chassis, engine, exhaust, turbo, tranny and everything in between. Since I'm such a WRX troll why would I have told him about the 6 hatch days before you repeated me? :p

But not EVERYTHING in between. Here's a linky with picys:

It will be a big step up in trannies for Saab, and hopefully Suby's newest revisions of their wrx trannies have solved the early problems!

WRX Wagon. That's the only way to go... you'll get enough room to store your stuff, plus a really fun *car* which is something neither the 6 or the Forester can claim. I've driven all of them and the WRX Wagon would probably suit you best... plus it's a really good car.

Yeah... I've been hearing that for a year now. It will never have the tuning potential of the WRX. A factory FI car is the way to go if you want the most bang for your buck mods, unless you get a chevy V8. The tuner market for the 6 will never be very large, the market for the WRX is huge.

True, and most of the 6's target audience is not going to mod their cars.

There's already an autox cult following for the 6 locally.

I didn't see a single one at an event in IL or WI all season. Also, cult following usually refers to a small following :p

You might recall that Las Vegas is either in NM or NV. I'm in the one in NV with all the pretty lights when it's not xmas time.

I realize that, I was simply pointing out that it's not a common autox car from what I've seen.

They you should have said exactly that ;)

Ok next time I will but only if you explain why you think there being a cult following of the 6 in one region being relevant to most of the 6 audience not modding their cars.

I was torn by the same decision. Then i got an 8. It became no contest after the 8 was put in the equation. WRX is great car though.
