Ok anybody have any results on winter driving my dealer has advised do to lack of availability for me to order Dunlop winter sport M-3 in a size slightly bigger than what's on the car 235-45-18 It's this or the garage for me. I actually wanted to return the car as it snowed 1 week after I got it could not drive around the block. He has offered to change tires every season for me for free as a consequense of not advising me of it's poor winter driving. He also stated "Tires are not going to help much"

His solution is to sell me a new Mazda 3 at his net cost. Now that to me sounds like an expensive snow tire.

all advise welcome I am desperate. thanks !

Navy32,

Sorry to hear about your drama at the dealership.
I have found this forum to be a huge help when I
have questions about the 8 and have found my dealer
to be several steps behind.

Many folks on the forum have purchased snow tires-
some of which are the ones you have mentioned.
If you check out the "Wheels tires and suspension" section
of the forum you'll find answers to your questions.

This car can run in the snow with snow tires!

Gordon is going to love this thread, this topic has been discussed in detail and its been determined that the RX-8 drives perfectly in the winter if you put winter tires on. Your dealer is a retard for telling you winter tires won't make a difference, tell him so and take your business elsewhere.

See this thread for all the info you need :

Today we got our first snow in St. Louis. I took the 8 out three times. With snow tires, this is the best snow handling vehicle I have ever owned. And it's not just the snow tires, the dsc works great also. I tried out some aggressive manuvers (in a safe spot). The car knows what direction its going. For example, it allows for more wheel spin when you're in a striaght line then around corners. Punch it going straight you can get 2-3 seconds of spin before it unobtrusively corrects. Punch it in a turn, on the otherhand, and it corrects much faster and more agressively. All in all, a great car in the snow (with winter tires). BTW I have Blizzak LM-22, 225-50/17.

Most of what's been posted in the Wheels, Tire and Suspension section seemed to think snow tires WILL make a difference. i know we got a dusting of snow this evening and was out in it on my snow tires. I concur with other comments that these work well. But I haven't driven on the OEM tires in the snow at all for comparision.

You probably want to check this thread too. (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15387) You may still be able to get these.

I drove my car 400 miles last weekend when it snowed (on 4 Blizzak WS 50's) including totally snow covered roads and sheet ice. The car handled great with the snows and I never felt scared or out of control even at highway speeds, as well as on completely unplowed streets. The car is good; get the snows, and it is more than drivable. It's ALL the tires.
