Brake Calliper Removal

Hi,

I want to take off my brake callipers to refurbish them. I wanted to know is there a way of doing this without having to bleed the system? I was thinking about bending and clamping the fluid tubes but I don't know if it's safe?

Thanks in advance!

Okay..............I'm not a mechanic, but I somewhat of a rocket scientist.

I would say you are asking for disaster and there is no way you should attempt to bend and clamp them off. You are just asking for major trouble(even after time has gone by) if you were successful. Do it right and bleed them and change the brake fluid......................please!

I have used a latex glove streched tightly over the master cylinder reservoir. If done properly prevents the entire system from draining down.

even if you manage to keep the lines filled with fluid, you are going to loose fluid in the caliper.

don't try and take a short cut with the brake system... seriously

just take hose off of caliper and clamp the hose to hold fluid in and do what u need to do to the calipers...DO NOT FORGET TO BLEED ENTIRE SYSTEM AT PROPER LOCATIONS WHEN DONE!

Do not clamp the hose. Rubber hydraulic hoses do not like to be bent sharply, crimped, clamped or otherwise mistreated. You may damage the hose fabric reinforcement and would be asking for trouble. You would be better of pluggling the end. Better yet, seal the master cylinder with a rubber glove under the lid to limit fluid loss and mess and take the opportunity to bleed and flush your brake fluid.
