I thought this might be a fun thread to start - just to get some interesting statistics. Of course, it's only as accurate as those likely to use a computer, the web, and have interest in seeing club activity.

The way that you have posited your poll eg: breaking the first three age groups into four and five year groups and then the rest of the human driving life span into decade and longer groups confirms what I have always believed. I am a very old fogey on this forum. Well, I guess that's about right.

I bought mine for my 34th birthday, although I had to wait a couple weeks to pick it up. Five years ago I bought my Miata for my impending 30's... I wonder what Mazda awaits me at 40 : )

Hey happy belated birthday NAVILES16V. bought mine at 24 as a reward for coming back from OIF in july. Although I might have to garage her since I'm going back sometime next year.

Please explain ST James, for this simple Antipodean, what OIF is the abbreviation for? Sounds like overseas military duty.

BTW (another acronym, but one I have a grip on), the 8 is my 54th Xmas present from me to me. My 2 daughters in late teens love it, not so much she who must be obeyed, the practical family member

38.....and I am still 38. Is that close to a mid life crisis thing?

naaa, not even! ordered ours when I was still 39. now I am just 28 in hexadecimal! (lame computer joke). right on time for "midlife crisis".

31, and I bought it for my very own un-birthday. Mine was delivered on 10/20 and I won't be 32 untile 5/2. It wasn't for x-mas either.

I got mine on 7/26 or something like that...

An "unexpected" 31st birthday present (20th is the actual day) - unexpected because I never considered buying an '8 until the previous Sunday when on a complete whim I called in to the Mazda dealer and had a look at one (mainly out of curiosity for the Renesis engine) - well that night I knew there was no way I couldn't get one...

Hooray for car loans, eh?

37 for this Mazda. It was *not* an early mid-life crisis...just a delayed replacement for my hotted-up Alfa Romeo Milano.

I was 23 when I bought my previous new Mazda: a 1988 323 GTX (all-wheel drive, 4 valves per cylinder, turbo, spoilers...all way before this stuff was vogue in the US!)

Fifty-one here (not my fault) and it's not a mid-life thing (that I'm aware of). I just liked the car and thought it would be fun to drive. That, and the fact that it's affordable at this stage of my life (no kids in college, etc.) and it made sense to buy it now. I know without a doubt that I look absolutely no younger and absolutely no more attractive or vital or whatever it is you go for when you do the middle-age-crazy thing, in that car than I would look in a Cavalier. I do admit however, that I (or anyone else would) look cooler in the 8 than if in a Cavalier. :)
