View Full Version : Help! Car invaded by spiders!
PBlue 01-24-2009, 06:30 PM So. I clean my car once every week or 2. and its sits outside all day every day. My home parking lot is pretty devoid of plant life, there are small bushes and thats it within 50 feet. At work there are just minor strips of grass between the rows of spaces.
Every once in a while, getting to and into my car, i would notice the sun reflect off my hood and fenders, and i would see what i first thought were swirl marks, because i have some small ones... it happens. But i had noticed some bigger ones that i dont always see. One day i looked really close and noticed that the scratch actually bridges the gap between the hood bump in mid air. WTF? i thought. And when i used my fingers, i could lift them off. SPIDERWEBS!. I have no idea where the bastard spiders are, but this has been occuring on and off for over 2 months now. I have no idea how they survive... but they are. How do i find and kill them?
And on another note. I went to Sebring raceway to do a PDX, and when i opened my hood to add oil, I noticed a big green frog just chillin on the drivers side rearmost corner of under the hood. I went to grab him and he backed up under the plastic that houses the windshield wiper bits. I didnt have time so I went and did the day with him in there anyway. He had to have made the entire trip with me, no idea how he got in there in the first place... but the main problem is that he is NOT EATING THE SPIDERS!!
Mazurfer 01-24-2009, 06:45 PM :lol2:
I'm going to show this thread to someone at work on Monday!
There are three cars allowed to park in OUR row...........my 8, a 6, and an MX5. We have this same discussion down in Palm Bay where I work! WTF?
Have you seen the little bastards. They are actually very small, but my god, they build that shit fast! I kid you not! It's amazing! :Eyecrazy:
The car will be covered in less than 9 hours. We are all shades of gray or silver and I thought it was that, but now I know different! :uhh:
Welcome to hell!
Oh, we have no trees around either! We actually kidded when leaving Friday that we were gonna raid our cars thise weekend. I kid you not......while we won't do it of course..............we did talk about getting the little f*&(ers. :banghead:
G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 01-24-2009, 06:46 PM lol this is hilarious... better than squirrels though!
Mazurfer 01-24-2009, 06:49 PM You first think they are swirl marks like Paul says........and then you realize it's the damn spiders. They either have to be blown by the wind, or climb up the tires. It's weird and pisses me off! I was hoping our recent below 32 degrees would get the little shits...............but alas.....it did not. They are very tiny, but pit out massive amounts of silk for how big they are.
We are not talking a few strands here. Friday, the total on my car over one hundred strands. The hood, the top, the trunk, the spoiler and run from one side of the car to the other. Also have them on the bumpers, back quarter panels, side views and windows. It's almost like they are building a cocoon.....if the were catapillers, I'd really be worried!
I haven't found any inside yet...........have you?
My current theory is that they are looking for warmth.
Bastage 01-24-2009, 08:11 PM I get this at my parking lot too, and only with this car (civic, no webs). My theory is that spiders are attracted to shiny bright things, because their prey is also attracted to shiny bright things, and hey, they gotta eat.
Stop washing your car for a few months and I bet the spider problem will stop :)
alz0rz 01-25-2009, 02:15 AM lol @ the frog.
rx 8speciale 01-25-2009, 03:30 AM mine is the same .. i got one spider dead inside each taillight sucks
SiLVeRE8 01-25-2009, 03:49 AM this is funny! i dont have spider problems but i have tiny flies and mosquitoes always like chilling on it. i guess because my 8 is white
paulmasoner 01-25-2009, 08:32 AM crazy! i would be concerned with a nest/eggsac getting started in the car if it was mine. personally, i would strip the interior and tear the dash and center console down then cover what needs to be protected and fumigate followed by an extremely thorough detail job. but i am also flipped out by spiders..
in HI i always detailed and waxed my car at night... like 10PM through 2 to 4AM. I noticed there that whenever i was waxing as i finished sections, there were these gnats things that flocked to the freshly waxed areas....
Socket7 01-25-2009, 12:19 PM I've gotten a spider behind my side view mirrors before. Never anywhere else though.
Socket7 01-25-2009, 12:20 PM I noticed there that whenever i was waxing as i finished sections, there were these gnats things that flocked to the freshly waxed areas....
I hate those gnats. They land on my car in the morning when i go into work. Then die there.
I'm the only guy in the parking lot with a pile of dead gnats on his car. Luckily they blow away while driving but still. :wtf:
paulmasoner 01-25-2009, 12:24 PM can i have my spider back?

yeah i dunno... i mean i can blow em off with a wave of a rag, but if they land there and sit during the day the bake and die there... i just hate bugs.
risky business 01-25-2009, 12:45 PM every once and i while when i get into my car there will be a spider running across the windshield (on the inside).. i wonder how they get in there.... i guess thru the ac(i park outside in a rain forest practically.
Renesis07 01-26-2009, 08:55 PM eeeeeEEEEEEEeeeeeeEEEEEEEeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEeeeeeeEEEEEEEeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the BIGGEST fear of spiders.
euro05rx8 01-26-2009, 09:31 PM lol this is hilarious... better than squirrels though!
ya spiders r way better then squirrels. my mom had squirrels in her lexus and the momma squirrel had a baby in there! it was rite in the air duct. and it was also a daily driver so we have no idea how they survived.
TopGear8 01-26-2009, 10:34 PM HAHAHA i'm sorry but this is just too funny.
Ross_Dawg 01-26-2009, 11:56 PM lol seriously... price you gotta pay though living in FL lol
yokohamaboi 01-27-2009, 12:46 AM this is funny! i dont have spider problems but i have tiny flies and mosquitoes always like chilling on it. i guess because my 8 is white
Dude!!!! same here. im begining to think its either the wax or quick detailer that attracts them cause of the smell.
PBlue 01-27-2009, 05:10 AM I haven't waxed or quick detailed since Halloween, so I doubt thats it.
If its the price I gotta pay, I'd still take mid 70 degree weather over what the north is going through.
Other people have noticed the webs.
I have not seen anything inside the car at all.
I did see one little tiny tiny bugs on my hood as i was going out last night, no larger than the tip of a pencil. flicked it right off.
euro05rx8 01-27-2009, 08:44 AM lol seriously... price you gotta pay though living in FL lol
ya its the price u gotta pay. but i dont live in FL. i live in Chicago, IL. the squirrels r visious here lol
Razz1 01-27-2009, 07:35 PM Redline a day will blow the spiders away............
laythor 01-27-2009, 07:46 PM It's the lack of trees and objects around your car that are bringing the spiders to you. Lots of spiders will "fly" away after being hatched by deploying a fine web of silk and being carried away on the breeze. Since the only thing there to hit are your cars, voila, instant spider-disneyland .
Renesis07 01-27-2009, 07:56 PM One time, a spider 'surprised me' by hanging down from my mirror.
I almost crashed as I was swinging my rise against cd case at this stupid spider.
I have a huge arachnaphobia (if I spelled that right)
8rocks 01-27-2009, 11:57 PM And we thought the 8 was a chic magnet!
yokohamaboi 01-28-2009, 12:02 AM And we thought the 8 was a chic magnet!
i thought so to :[ maybe its defective haha RECALL!!!
Ryan2008 01-28-2009, 09:39 AM HAHAHA  this thread is quite funny.
As far as getting rid of the spiders... well I'm not too sure.
firebirdude 03-24-2009, 07:53 PM Chalk up another FL space coast 8 owner who has noticed spiders in the car. It's always the same type too. Whitish/skin colored all over and about the size of a nickel. Been noticing them ever since I've owned the 8. Never once with my previous car and it was parked in the exact same spots.:squint:
shazy 03-24-2009, 09:24 PM This thread was awesome, pretty damn funny and I can only say it happens to my dad's green alero. He's the only one who gets those bigass spiders in the side view mirror.
RX8Don 03-24-2009, 10:04 PM it must be a florida thing, cuz i had a spider in my 8 before too..i never killed it tho....i was lookin for something to smash it wit and by the time i looked back up wit was gone. i have no clue where it went!!
(if you guys see someone on the news jumpin and swinging around like siderman then u kno what happen to me)
setsuwa 03-25-2009, 04:55 AM I live in socal. And I just found a black widow in my S13 with a thumb size EGG. God it was disgusting.
I haven't drove it in a month tho..
jaudash 03-31-2009, 11:34 AM Great thread
jmc23200 03-31-2009, 11:58 AM The Spiders strike again. I swear those little bastards are playing practical jokes on people. Its their way of tp'ing lol. No damage done, just pisses you off
He||hammer 03-31-2009, 04:02 PM RX8Legs strikes again
Rmarques 04-19-2009, 11:35 PM I'm surprised that frog even survived under the hood ... I mean my 8 generates a lot of heat .. Imagine if the little guy had to jump a bit forward ;);)
exsequor 04-20-2009, 01:35 AM definitely one of the great things about colorado is virtually no insects (compared to florida)
EdwardsB 04-20-2009, 03:41 PM sorry I cant offer any help, but...
I got a good laugh out of the frog chillin in your 8
justjim 04-20-2009, 04:35 PM Wait, what, does Mazda have a convertible RX8 Spyder version now?:Eyecrazy: Oh you got spiders not Spyders.
firebirdude 04-20-2009, 06:19 PM Still seeing them in my car. Almost every day.
I live in Tamarac fl and I get yellow shit spots all over my car and I seen a woodpecker going at it on my left side merrier trying to peck at my car alot. gnats all around my driver side door everyday. and the worst is the Mexicans cutting the lawns everywhere I drive and old peaple parking next to me drives me crazy or anything really!, just stay away from my 8 lol
firebirdude 04-20-2009, 09:34 PM and the worst is the Mexicans cutting the lawns everywhere I driveI'm pretty sure a lawn service hit my car while mowing the lawn in my friend's apartment complex. I was on an end parking spot which has no sidewalks, apartments, or roads around it. Nothing on that side but a ditch. The side facing the ditch (driver's side) is the one that got hit. I obviously noticed it instantly when getting into my car. I certainly wouldn't have missed it from some other time. Lawn was freshly mowed.... so I put two and two together.
amacrx8 04-21-2009, 09:14 PM When I had my Miata, I had a huge (1/2" diameter including legs) wolf spider that was living in my dash. It scared the crap out of me.
I spent many days trying to get it out in a humane way. Eventually I took an index card in the crevice between the windshield and the dash and I was about to scoop him out and put him outside the car in the parking lot. That was my victory day!!
Seriously, though, that spider almost got me into a few car accidents.
rx8dad 04-21-2009, 09:43 PM For the spiders inside the RX8, get some home bug spray at Lowes or Home Depot for $6.97/gallon.
It's odorless and shouldn't hurt the carpet (but test it first for fading).
Spray it around the car once a month until you see no spiders.
dezau 04-22-2011, 01:18 AM so it's been 2 years.... anyone found a solution to this yet? this is pissing me off clearing spiderwebs between the mirror and the door every morning = =
PBlue 04-22-2011, 05:43 AM My solution was moving away.
I had forgot all about this. Now that I remember this, I dont think the mazda 6 recall for spiders is ridiculous anymore.
RX8Don 04-22-2011, 07:50 AM get a car cover
Mazurfer 04-22-2011, 07:02 PM Mine at work have abated to some degree, but I think that's just the time of year! They will be back!
The guy with the 6 and my 8 did in fact have some about a week ago, but not to the extreme to which we have seen it before.
Don.................while covers are nice, I used to have to go out everyday around 2ish and make sure the cover was off before the 4:00pm Monsoon set in.
Then if you are stuck in a meeting and can't get to it, you have to take a cover off in a gully washer + lightning storm? Then what do you do with the water soaked cover for the trip home.
What part of Florida you in? That will tell me what tiem of day you get your afternoon thunder boomers......when Summer gets here.
