You know what your next task is, don't you?

Photographs...

I assume you're going with just the MazdaSpeed spoiler onto an otherwise standard RX8, not the rest of the MazdaSpeed kit or another bodykit, right?
Something I was considering, so I'd be very interested in seeing how it looks.

Thanks,
Jon.

Why do people bother taking pictures at night...especially when a spoiler is HALF ON????

Just take a photo in the daytime when you are done with the project. Your current pictures serve no purpose except to waste bandwidth.

just wanna keep u guys updated on the progress cuz my friend is finding me some hard to find screws for the upper spoiler so that it'll be harder to get stolen:mad:

Thanks Psychofox. I actually enjoy seeing the buildup unlike some crabby other people. For me it was worth while to get a closer look at the lower half of the spoiler. Thank you. It something you would not get to see as well if the whole spoiler was put together. Looking good! I still can't decide if this is the one I want though. I think I'll have to see it in person to really make up my mind.

So how much did you get the spoiler for? Rosenthal Mazda and Trussville currently have two of the better prices around, are they cheaper than their's?

I've got the MazdaSpeed spoiler ordered from Trussville, it's being shipped this week. When I get it on I'll post pics of my Red RX-8 with it.

I just got an e-mail from Mark at emr-power and my HKS exhaust just got in! He sent some pictures of the one they had just installed....the finish and quality is impressive. I especially like the HKS logo support piece between the two mufflers. Hopefully, the exhaust and the Stage 1 I ordered will get in about the same time. I can't wait!

I have a question... Did you have the factory spoiler before?

I've been considering buying the R.Ext. copy (I love carbon fiber) for my car, but I am worried that the factory wing mounting points will not align with the Mazdaspeed one. I'd rather not make my car swiss cheese.

Psychofox
01-16-2004, 04:27 AM
XDEEDUBBX: i am not running catless, but it still shoots out fire.... :)

AlexCisneros: yes i have the stock rear spoiler, the mazdaspeed wing use the stock hole so you dont need to drill other holes for it.

Received the HKS Legamax exhaust on Friday and installed it today (Saturday) at a friends house. Stock exhaust came off easy once we WD40'd the rubber hangers. It was a breeze to put on the HKS. Took about 45 minutes. Talk about a perfect fit. The idle is still quiet but slightly deeper. If you step on the gas a little bit you start to hear a deep growl. The tips look awesome with the exhaust finishers....that's the way Mazda should have had the stock exhaust look. I'd describe this as a "classy" exhaust. The fit, finish and quality are top notch. It's quiet at idle and cruising speed. Sounds like a beast once you step on it. Right now it's breaking in, but I give it an A and a thumbs up, even if it costs a $1,000. Thanks emr-power!

Another improvement I've noticed is that a cold start no longer has that rough idle sputtering sound now that the HKS exhaust is installed.

What is the difference between the $1000 HKS and the $600 Borla (as well as most other exhausts)?

success07
01-25-2004, 10:34 PM
About $400 :D

AlexCisneros

The difference is the fit and finish. I have had HKS exhausts before and have always preferred them to other companies. I had the only other one in the US in my grasp but flow ($$$) was an issue so a friend of mine (Armando) got it for his car. It is truly a beautiful work of art. The sound is perfect and the look is amazing. Now that I have been saving, mine is on order and should arrive this week :D

Not to say that Borla won't give you performance, but damn they're ugly compared to the HKS. You get what you pay for...

310Guy
02-02-2004, 12:07 AM
I agree with Alex. I've had HKS exhausts in the past and their products are top notch.

But damn, though, the price tag for the exhaust... :(

Japan8
02-02-2004, 03:37 AM
Between everyone who's out there on the market and still coming, it basically comes down to this for exhaust...

Do you want show car looks, i.e. when you look under the car it looks all shiny and pretty?

How big do you want your tips?

How much are you willing to pay?

And... which company's products have you had a good experience with before?

It's that last one that will close a decent number of sales... just the name on the system.

I second that. More pictures please. Also those HKS tips look huge. Any concern of it melting the black plastic bumper? How big of a gap is there between the exhaust tip and the plastic surround?

I agree that the finish on the HKS is great. I saw it with Alex and Armando before Armando beat Alex to it, and it's a great looking exhaust. Wish the cost was a bit lower, but hey, doesnt everybody? :)

When I brought my car in for the 2nd oil change, the service manager said there were about 9 technicians under my car looking at the exhaust. He said they all loved it. In fact, one of the financing managers gave me a call later to find out the place that I got it from. I told him and he said he was going to order one for his car.

I have the exhaust finishers, so melting isn't an issue. The only problem I have is cleaning the finishers. It's hard to get back in there now with the big tips. Now all I'm waiting for is the Stage-1 I ordered back in December!

Can any of the HKS exhaust owners post a picture from the side of the car. I'd like to see how far the tips stick out. From HKS' pictures it looks like they do considerably.

I ask this because I think I've narrowed down my exhaust to either Greddy or HKS.

Thanks.

Did want to mention. Recently I noticed a dark stain on the bumper paint above both tips. The exhaust had deposited a film on the bottom of the bumper. It cleaned off fine with Zaino quick detailer, but would not clean well with just water. I have about 7000 miles on the exhaust, this is the first time I have noticed/cleaned. Otherwise, still happy.

AlexCisneros
02-04-2004, 10:19 PM
I had posted pictures and with Genom's help sound files for the exhaust, both GReddy and HKS.

The tips on the GReddy are much larger than HKS, The finish on the HKS is a bit nicer, but the GReddy is very nice. Both are leagues away from Borla (no offense to borla owners). Power wise, they're all about the same (including the Borla).

how does the HKS sound at highway speeds... does it "boom" at a steady cruise? Any louder than stock?

PlanMan
02-09-2004, 10:18 PM
Like all of the other comparable high quality exhausts, it's quiet at highway speeds and downshifting. But step on it, and it's a whole new story. Not obnoxiously loud, but definitely there and noticeable. I especially love to hear it with the windows down and the sunroof open going under overpasses. Very "racecar" like.

I also use this car for work and I park in an exclusive parking area under the Modis building here in Jacksonville. This exhaust is "classy" sounding and mixes well with the CL55 AMG's, Corvette's, Porsche

Psychofox
02-10-2004, 07:04 PM
like what planman say this is exhaust not loud at all, but once you get on the gas you will hear the nice deep tone

it looks like your tips are getting yellow, can this be cleaned off? BTW, earlier someone mentioned that they can yield flames with this exhaust? Are you running M Flash? AT or MT? has anyone with a AT ever yielded flamed before?

ranger4277
06-04-2004, 03:22 PM
You can yield flames with the stock exhaust, aftermarket exhausts just yield larger flames. I'm sure an AT could... but not sure if anyone has reported it yet.

AlexCisneros

LOL, I wonder if the white Civic in the picture Psychofox posted can fly :D

sohcpunk
06-04-2004, 05:39 PM
has it been confirmed that you are able to yield flames with the M flash? doesnt this update make the fuel map leaner?

mysql101
06-04-2004, 05:48 PM
I will agree - the borla finish isn't anywhere close to the HKS that appear in the pictures here. The borla isn't polished or shiney. However the tips are pretty similar, and that is all you end up seeing on the road.

As long as the borla doesn't fall apart, it's basically a matter of money and taste.

Leaner until you hit the high revs, I would think it easier to flame with the M flash. M made high rev range quite rich.

epitrochoid
06-04-2004, 08:49 PM
the flames result from a heated exhaust tract igniting a super rich fuel mixture...you gotta drive it hard over 6k for a good 5 minutes and then slow to an idle and as fast as you can floor and take your foot off the gas.

since M is rich up high, this would create less heat and therefore less flamage
