I thought they taught it in school, youngster. I'm 56, going on 18. I'm just amazed at how many kids (under 25) have $31k cars and can't spell worth sh!t. Makes me wonder what the rest of their/there education was like.

Sorry. It's supposed to be me rolling on the floor laughing because I completely agree with every word you said. I thought the same thing when I first visited the board. :D

Roger that. I can only stand so much, and then have to log out to recover. It's like being in Startrek and landing on Ricer Alpha (or some such).

Good point, wrong place for it! Anyone with an engineering degree has to be pretty educated to pass those courses!

Not to offend anyone here... I know we're all of different ages, backgrounds, and at different stages in our lives, but sometimes this place has quite a bit of its share of unintentional comic relief...
Take care DC.
ST.James 12-12-2003, 10:51 AM I'm 24 and I am in the marines. I bought mine with cash, so I guess not all twenty somethings with an rx-8 are engineers. Then again I'm trying to get my degree in bio-engineering, but I'm not one yet :p
moogle 12-12-2003, 10:56 AM I didn't get the rx-8, but I am only 20 and I bought my self an Lancer Evo 8. I just graduated my self from R.N and work in a state hospital. I know doctors who went to school for 14 yrs and still they can't spell shit . He is an engineer and his 23 soooOO...bunch of old people who are haters.

wow.. amazing..
Lets see here, as one of those kids who can't speel ;) worth sh!t I would have to say that the rest of my education was pretty good, Thank You..
Five years of college yielded 2 degrees, BS Mech. Eng. and Masters in Systems Engineering. Because of these degrees I could afford this 32K car. I am pretty sure that checking that I am using the subjunctive tense of a verb was a little less important in getting my job.
Quit making inane posts about simple spelling errors or grammar usage. Everyone makes mistakes. Plus its not their fault that they would rather spend time doing analysis and calculations so you could enjoy a luxury such as a RX-8. Besides, nobody likes a GrammarNazi..

I don't think anyone is a hater here... Being an engineer is no special accomplishment. It doesn't mean you're great with the English, nor does it mean you can spell properly. If 31 is old then so be it.
ZoominRex 12-12-2003, 11:27 AM 22 yr old in property management. bought on 7/24 by myself!

Gracias. I hate the spelling, not the speller. Unfortunately, on an internet board, your first impression is from the written word, and when someone writes as though he'd just landed on this planet, any content is taken with reservation. But maybe I'm mistaken and most of the people on here are 50-something over-the-road truckers who dropped out of high school.
Flame Shield On
pmacwill 12-12-2003, 11:41 AM I was 22 when I bought it by myself on july 23

The most inane thing about this thread is the original question. Why would anyone actually care who the youngest person that bought the car with their own money is... <hides behind Dick Carlson to shield the flames>

Well a few options for that, we're going to try and make it to Turino in 2006 for the winter games (more something she's been looking forward to) and I'm going to see if I can bargain for Rally Catalunya before that :D

I'm flattered that you cared enough to check my profile, but I always give false information when I register for anything on the Internet. It's a habit. Just like the email address I provided is strictly for registration purposes. Nobody likes spam!

Wow awesome! I am 27 working to get into programming and paying for my own car as well.
If you don’t mind me asking how did you get into the field. I am almost done with school and I am dying to get out of my crappy Tech support job soon!
I was going to a tech school for a while and they closed down. Then I had to start all over again. I am finally almost done again and I am very excited.
What type of job did you first receive?
Did you go through an agency to find your job?
How do you like it?
Are you checking others code or are you doing your own modules?
Do you tend to utilize your systems analyst skills or is it mainly just coding?
Ok ill leave you alone now, Thanks for the info ahead of time I really appreciate it!
Jhouse 12-16-2003, 05:24 PM im 26 and guess what...i don't have shit for and education which really shouldn't matter since the question was age not occupation. It's only a 30k car so its not like you have to have some special Engineering Degree to own one you just have to be willing to work DUHHHHHHHHH. Don't get me started on the whole stupid education bit. its so overrated it makes me sick. i can't stand it when people that have a piece of paper think they are above all. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!
COME ON FLAME ME H AHA HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHH

Rx-Appreci-8 12-17-2003, 06:07 PM Whoa Jhouse. Calm down man! You're an RX-8 owner and a member of this forum; therefore you ARE one of us!
I'm not flaming you but from the posts I've read you seem to be the only one making an issue about college. Others are just stating their age and their occupation.
In a thread about youngest buyers, it makes sense that very few high school students (or recent high school grads) can afford this car (except yellowFE, who is obviously gifted) so the expected age group 'bubble' of youngest buyers is probably going to be 22/23 year college grads with their diplomas in hand and a brand new job - hence the spike in replies on this forum.
It is also understandable (and sort of cool, I think) that the RX-8, a car that wins many awards for its 'engineering and manufacturing' excellence, would also appeal to many mechanics, electronics techs, automotive gurus, folks fresh out of the military and college graduates - particularly engineering students.

I have a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Information Systems, which I decided to pursure my sophomore year. So that's how I got into the field, I suppose. My college was great in setting up job interviews my senior year. They had several companies send recruiters for on-campus job interviews, and several job fairs each semester. I didn't land a job with any of them, but several of my friends did. Ultimately, I landed the job I have now the old-fashioned way -- Knowing someone that knew someone on the inside.
Of course I was still interviewed, but that's what landing a job is all about...the interview. That's all that "Piece of paper" (referring to Jhouse's post) does for you, land you the interview. So work on those interview skills, especially the dreaded behavioral interview that seems to be growing in popularity with job recruiters. If your school has a career services center, definitely check them out. This all seems to be common sense, but you'd be surprised to know how many seniors graduate and expect a job to land in their lap. Finding a job for me, in the IT field, was a job in itself.
And to answer more of your questions:
1. Strangely enough, the two jobs I had before this one were in Tech Support. So I know how you feel. I'd go so far as to say all Tech Support jobs suck. Everyone loves to bitch when things go wrong and blame the crappy help desk, but nobody seems to compliment you when things run smoothly, which is a majority of the time.
2. At first, I went through the college's career services center. Then tried looking on my own by via the numerous job search sites that let you post online resumes (seemed hopeless, at least for an IT guy). I only know of one IT person that landed a job using those job search sites. But I eventually landed this job because a friend of mine knew someone that worked here, so they handed my resume to their manger, and poof, I was scheduled an interview along with 11 other candidates. I took a "no-BS" approach this time, and I guess it worked because here I am.
3. I like it a lot. I like the work, pay and beneifts are great, flexible hours, management isn't anal, etc.
4. I write my own code. I've never had to check anyone else's code, probably because they all have a good 10-20 year head start on me =). For the moment, I mostly code. But I've got a lot of training coming up in the new year, and then I will move into systems analysis.
What a long post.
Shocka 12-19-2003, 08:05 AM just turned 22 in july; in august i bought the car. i am a Systems Administrator for a Medical Group.
Rx-Appreci-8: great post and I def agree with you on all points i guess especially since i am also one of those fresh college grads.
