WTBRotary! 01-12-2009, 03:10 AM How do you Tighten your E-brake cable? ive searched for it and since im a noob does anyone know how to? thanks,
Wait i think i know how, Do you remove that small cap in the drink holder then tighten that nut to the right to make it more taut?

PARKING BRAKE LEVER INSPECTION
Stroke Inspection
1. Depress the brake pedal several times.
2. Pull the parking brake lever 2-3 times .
3. Inspect the parking brake stroke by slowly pulling at point A 50 m {1.97 in} from the end of the parking brake lever with a force of 98 N {10 kgf, 22 lbf} and counting the number of notches (clicking sound).
• If not within the specification, adjust the parking brake lever.
Standard: 1-3 notches
PARKING BRAKE LEVER ADJUSTMENT
1. Depress the brake pedal several times.
2. Remove the service hole cover of the rear console.
3. Turn the adjusting nut and adjust the parking brake lever.
4. After adjustment, pull the parking brake lever one notch and verify that the parking brake warning light illuminates.
5. Verify that the rear brakes do not drag.
...also check your rear pads for thickness remaining.

WTBRotary! 01-12-2009, 11:15 PM Did it today and im so glad i tightened it, it was getting pretty loose, o and i checked the oil and magically added a whole quart... dont you just love oil checks!!!

i guess im asking if i tighten it to much will it cause the rear pads to drag
WTBRotary! 01-13-2009, 09:13 PM i would think you could BUT the E-brake light would be lit up so you would know when your burning your brakes... im pretty sure im correct on that one... id assume heh

You want at least 1 click and up to 3 clicks on the handle.
Check that the rears are not dragging...
The parking brake may not (probably won't) lock the rears when pulled on dry roads on good tires. It is not designed for that type of use.

just yank it all the way up.
the best way to drift is to clutch kick though. :uhh:

i dont get the click thing... 1-3 standard??? why not just tighten until tight??? i dont know how much exactly 20 lbs of pull is, but i tightened mine a decent amount, i wouldnt be able to tell you if mine falls beneath the "standard" 1-3 clicks because i pull mine up to id say 4-5, anything after that is pretty tough

I'll go really slow.
The parking brake light is a simple switch that lights up when the lever is raised approx. 2 inches. It has nothing to do with how tight the brake cables are - or even if there are cables attached at all.
The "clicks" that the manual is talking about is the ratchet that holds the lever up (until you push the button on the end of the lever).
The goal here is to tighten the nut so that the lever is able to rise some, but is slack enough to not make the brakes drag when the lever is down.
If you slowly pull up the lever (without pushing the button), you will hear the pawl 'click' against the ratchet on the lever housing.
The goal is to hear about three clicks before you have to use greater effort to pull the lever up any more.

i know this. that is what i DO. however the handbrake is essential for 180 turns and 360 spins.

risky business 01-13-2009, 11:00 PM well. i only e=brake on my free tires that i dumpster dove :P or atleast i used to with my old 911. never have on the 8 because the ebrake is near useless
