Just wondering if you have and if so where did you place it. thanks Lock & Load 12-11-2003, 08:15 PM Ageo NO i have not fitted one , i need as many excuses as i can to stay out driving the rx8 having a navigation system i could not use the excuse that i got lost he he he . WELCOME TO THE FORUM . Michael MadMAX 12-11-2003, 09:28 PM Is nav an option in Aus? if so... how much is it? emack 12-11-2003, 10:14 PM Don't believe its available in the Oz spec car?! Choppy 12-11-2003, 10:58 PM Im waiting on delivery of my RX8.. The sales girls said that they fit them locally and she will give me a price when the car comes in and getting optioned. Regards Phillip pepe 12-11-2003, 11:08 PM So far, I believe the official line is that it's not available. My guess is that any dealer offering to fit one locally is probably just talking about a 3rd party unit... you'd probably pay less to have it fitted at a specialist store than have it done through a dealer btw. emack 12-11-2003, 11:53 PM I just rang Mazda, and they advised that additional accessories will be available in 2004 for the 8, and the Navigator may be included in that release. (Vague I know!). Ageo 12-11-2003, 11:53 PM Thanks lock n load. Well its not an option but i think you would have to get a specialist to fit 1 in because my local dealers wont fit nav systems in. I need it for business thats all. Wildcard 12-12-2003, 06:22 AM I think the official Mazda nav kit is the only way to go. Any other TV screen just looks too out of place IMO. There's really no where to put it. A street directory is just fine for me, but I'd love to get my hands on the Nav kit screen if it makes it to Aus so that I can hook up a DVD player. For those who may not know what I'm talking about: Wildcard 12-12-2003, 06:25 AM I couldn't resist.... :D Ageo 12-13-2003, 03:50 AM Do you guys know of any1 that custom fits the nav systems? DGW i like the first pic, if i could fit something like that i would love it, thanks for that pic, helped alot. cheers Hymee 12-13-2003, 04:35 AM I haven't have a nav system in my car, but I have had GPS going in it - but that was just for work :) That is one of the 'other' things I do. Cheers, Hymee. Wildcard 12-13-2003, 04:58 AM At this stage, the Nav system is not available in Australia, so you would have to import it from Japan or Mazda USA, which would be very expensive. I'd say a new dash would be required also. So at this stage, the only options are to either wait and hope that next year Mazda Aust to offer it as an accessory, or buy a 3rd party system. druck 12-13-2003, 07:09 AM You'd also have to make sure the system has maps available for Australia, otherwise you might get a bit wet as directs you back to Japan :) I'm just about to fit a PDA based system, I'll post some pictures when I've managed to get it to look acceptible. Cheers ---Dave Titanium RX-8 12-15-2003, 04:11 AM Anyone seen the Navman? It was reviewed in the latest Motor. Seems quite interesting but wondering how the PDA screen might be a limiting factor. Hymee 12-15-2003, 05:52 AM I have used a NavMan in the form of a PDA jacket with built in GPS. It didn't even conform to the offical NMEA standard. They "invented" their own baud rate that is out of spec, which gave us some small headaches in our PDA mapping package. But they work quite well. I think the 1/4 VGA screen would be too small to be of real value for navigiation. It might be OK with well designed tulip diagrams. The only time I have used in-car navigation for actual navigation (aka driving directions) purposes was in the US in a Hertz rental. I was quiet impressed, but it did have it's shortcomings. We got geographically embarrased more than once in and around D.C. and Reston. We did have some fun with it though. Cheers, Hymee. Ageo 12-15-2003, 06:59 PM I might wait until mazda official has them as an option. Then i can go to them direct and get them to fit it. druck 12-15-2003, 08:03 PM Theres some pictures of my PDA GPS installation over on the UK Onwers Club forum (http://rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=710). Cheers ---Dave Choppy 12-21-2003, 05:42 PM Mazda gave me a call about the nav system and its from a third party :( same navs that they install into the Mazda 6 NT Rotor Head 12-26-2003, 10:12 AM Hi Guys, I just came across this for those that cant wait to get a screen (whatever it may be used for) into the dash. Its an RX8 accessory available in Japan which allows you to mount a screen up to 197mm in width. It comes with a template for cutting the dash as well. (plenty of nice pics in the thread below) :) http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15088&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 Icanrel-8 01-03-2004, 09:37 AM Hello, my Aussie brothers... I have an 8 on order, with nav. It is an option here in the US. Not gloating, just wondering if I can help in some way. I think that you'd also need a dvd of your area (continent, whatever) that works with the nav system. Just a lame guess, but maybe the nav-makers are updating one for Oz before they offer the option... Then again, you guys got those square thingies on the bumper in front of each light. My guess is that they are hidden water jets for the lights, or an infrared roo warning system kind of like the reversing obstacle warning dealies on expensive cars here. ;) cheers playa78 01-03-2004, 10:23 AM I believe the square thingies are indeed the headlight cleaners.. Icanrel-8 01-03-2004, 06:52 PM Very nice, and thanks. So, why are they not on our 8s in the States? I know you probably don't have that information, but it seems an odd bit to be hemispherically dependant... My current vehicle has them, so it rules out some highway dept rules against headlamp cleaners. Guess I'll post this back on a local forum and see what shakes out. Hope the navs reach you soon. bye Hymee 01-04-2004, 12:53 PM You get 2 oil coolers, we get headlight cleaners (sometimes)... There is equality! druck 01-04-2004, 01:38 PM We get the headlamp washers and two oil radiators :) - but no Hymee grill, so one of mine has a damn great dent in it already. :( Cheers ---Dave Hymee 01-05-2004, 02:27 PM Dave, I can send the grill to you guys as well. druck 01-05-2004, 03:01 PM Hymee, ok if I drop round and collect one in mid May? Cheers ---Dave |
