check your fuses first off!!! make sure there isn't a penny in the hole(trust me i've seen it) if all the above is good prob time to take it apart and check the wires are tight!!! My guess is probably a fuse

if you find a penny make sure not to lick it while it's still in the socket.

Fuses first. Has anyone added an additional socket to their 8?

you can take off the center area starting at the shifter, then taking out the ash tray, then working back... the whole unit can be removed. Use a volt meter and keep tracing forward from the socket till you find power.

yeah i can do the area of the shifter but working back is where i would have trouble
guess im scared im ripping something off lol, can anyone tell me or show me a diagram how to remove the center going back?

You can actually remove the socket without removing the console...look around it..there is a little gap at the bottom...pop it forward and the plug comes out

heh... after you've taken your console out a couple times, hijacked the positive lead to it as an ignition signal, and cut out a few "accessories" around it, it is hard to miss...

ShellDude, nice setup!

Are you using a plug-in OBDII extension cable, or did you tap the wires behind the dash plug? (apologies if you've already answered this, I only searched your last 50 posts).

TIA.

I have an OBDII cable (scanalyser) that runs from my OBD port through my console to the RS232 port on my carputer.

That is a USB plug that is ran into the rear pass-thru where my carputer lives. If I want to hook up my AP to my OBD, I disconnect scanalyser cable and plug in the AP in place of it using its dongle. If I want to do live monitoring with Street tuner I smply plug my AP dongle into the OBD and run it to the USB port.

There's a 3.5mm stereo port right next to the USB port that I use for standard audio-in to my carpc.

On the other side of the USB port is my "dead man" switch that resets my carpc in the event of a Windows lockup (infrequent but does happen on rare occasion).

ha.. I can only imagine what you learned about me from my last 50 posts lol. I've been meaning to document my carpc build to some extent but haven't found the time.

sorry, I know im a noob but wtf is that stuff.. RS232 , carputer, AP,dongle,

ShellDude
01-10-2009, 01:40 PM
and I was wondering why you didn't have a 12V adapter :) :) :)

j/k ... too hard too resist.

RS232 = computer communications protocol and connector
carputer = car + computer
AP = Cobb AccessPort
dongle = doodad that connects your AP to your car
