I'm doing a research paper on the RENESIS rotary engine of the RX-8. I'm finding a lot of car reviews, but I'm having a difficult time finding information on the engine itself. I was just wandering if anybody might have some info on the actual engine or at least an idea where to start.

Thanks,
Mike

www.mazdausa.com has some good basic info on it.

Use the Search function (the button at the very top, 2nd from the right) & just look around here.

Mazda have have some technical documents available for the public published. Defiently call/write Mazda. You can find specific information on past Mazda engines.

Sport Compact Cars had a review on the 8...Back in May.

Page 84 - 91

Mentioned something about the RENESIS being a 86 pounds lighter than the B13REW due to the lack of twin turbo's, half a pound off each rotor, seven pounds off the flywheel...plastic manifold, and an electronic throttle body.

273 pounds total...which is probably 75 pounds lighter than my D18Y8T when all said and done.

86lbs is quite a lot, but 1/2 a lb off each rotor is HUGE!!! No wonder it revs so freely! I wonder how much weight rotary tuners usually shed off when they lighten rotors?

Well...86 pounds...the majority would come from the turbo units and piping for it. Sorry...it was 3.7 seven pounds off of the flywheel, not 7 pounds. At anyrate, that just makes it that much easier to get that puppy turning.

The Greddy Turbo kit I had for my SOHC Civic weighed in at a nice number in the box. I want to say it weighed about 50 pounds in the box...but it has been a nice long while since I've had to pick it up and move it around. The old FD's ran Twin Turbo's too...

Rotary Engine Illustrated (http://www.rotaryengineillustrated.com/index.html) is just that, rotary engines... but not the Renesis specifically.

Another popular site... (http://travel.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine.htm)
