We just had an earthquake! I was talking to a friend in my cube, and all of a sudden the building started shaking, then stopped, then started, and then made a big thump like someone dropped something really big. Didn't think much of it till my husband called and asked if we felt it too- apparently, the entire area around Richmond here (Louisa, Goochland, Downtown, Midlothian) all felt it.

I guess for all you Californians it's not a big deal, but I don't think I've ever felt one before- I know we've had them, but I've always been asleep, or it was too small to notice. Was pretty neat!

rofl- I'm such a dork, I know. It takes very little to get me excited, and I was having a boring afternoon anyway, so this was a nice distraction.

I felt it in Charlottesville, too! I'd never felt one before, very weird.

Looks like you had yourself a li'l ol' 4.5er there, Elara. Out here in CA that's just a baby quake, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) Here's a link to a great site for info on recent quakes: USGS Quake Site (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqsUS/Quakes/uscdbf.htm)

Some of the people I work with said they felt an earthquake, I thought they were going crazy, guess not. I'm in Maryland so some people felt it some didn't.

There was one in Norman Oklahoma today as well. Pretty strange.
Drudge is reporting the One you experienced as a 4.5 and the one in Oklahoma as a 2.0

I believe Oklahoma is supposed to be one of the most volatile and potentially dangerous sites for quakes in North America. Potentially more severe than California in some places.

On a side note, who likes the Urban Myth about half of California falling into the ocean due to an earthquake?

I wish the quake in Norman would have swallowed up the football team and Bob Stoops. My daddy was a Sooner but after putting 77 points on my team I just don't like 'em.

Yeah, it takes over 6.5's to get me riled up ever since the big one in 85 back in Mexico City.

Course, in Miami I need to look out for hurricanes, not quakes, but I havent seen anything hit here in 6 years so i aint terribly impressed by them.

Well, OK, we got a soaker a few years back, but it was all rain and nothing else. Flooded the streets for a couple days and it was over.

Oh man Rhode Island is so boring. We get a little of everything, but none of it to really be a big deal. Because of this every time the weather man predicts a few inches of snow everyone runs out and buys out the food store like its the Cuban Missile Crisis all over again (by the way I'm not nearly old enough to remember that, but I hear stories).

We get some snow, some heat, a small earthquake and even a tornado a little while ago, but none big enough to really comment on. RI sucks.:(
