LoneCorp 03-01-2009, 09:22 PM Not sure what car im taking but prolly going to show up with the NJ people that posted before me :p Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 10:09 AM i guess i'm going to break down and actually come to this. but i won't be participating in any activities that i have to, you know, pay for; just running the dragon. Deals Gap Rotary Rally 03-02-2009, 10:22 AM i guess i'm going to break down and actually come to this. but i won't be participating in any activities that i have to, you know, pay for; just running the dragon. Running the dragon is FREE! We are not charging for that... and I'm sure some will only run once or not run at all (some show cars and race cars). Registration fee includes: Event T-shirt, Lunch, registration for a car show, and qualify for $1500-3000 worth of giveaways. Your chance of getting some sort of giveaway is very likely.. usually 1 in 3 gets something.. We are also planning seminars from various vendors and such. So, Please register vs. just showing up. Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 10:55 AM well i know it's free; it's a public road. i don't really care much about all that other stuff. TopGear8 03-02-2009, 12:09 PM Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today...:uhh: Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 12:38 PM no, nothing like that. i'm just not going to pay $50 to drive on a road that i drive on regularly and check out some other cars for an hour or two. but that's just me. other people who have to drive longer than 30 minutes might want to make a bigger deal out of it than i do. G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 01:12 PM no, nothing like that. i'm just not going to pay $50 to drive on a road that i drive on regularly and check out some other cars for an hour or two. but that's just me. other people who have to drive longer than 30 minutes might want to make a bigger deal out of it than i do. well its 37 dollars. and you dont care about being social and whatnot maybe just not show up at all.. you make it sound like we should be lucky to have you, but you should be thankful to live so close and to have such a cool opportunity Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 01:50 PM huh? even if i did pay the however much it is, i don't really have an entire weekend to dedicate to this, so what's the point? am i supposed to pay for a meal that i won't be there for, a t-shirt i won't be there to receive, and a photoshoot i can't attend? and when did i say that i wasn't going to be social or that the rotary community should somehow be lucky to have me? lucky to have me because i live so close? that didn't even make sense. i just said that i wanted to come up and see some cars, drive a little bit, and that i wasn't interested in attending any events (which i have to work during) i hope the fact that i'm not going to pay $37 to drive on a public road for two hours doesn't ruin anyone's time there, geez. G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 02:10 PM you didnt read my post very well. and you can get your shirt whenever, and plan to come during the meal maybe? its not like they have an dedicated hour to give out the shirt you paid for or else youre just out of luck.. sorry you missed your chance! we gave it to a homeless kid... I would pay the 37 to get a shirt and to help the event. period. its not about benefiting me, its about the cars and the people and my 37 dollars helps that happen Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 02:27 PM maybe you can swing all of that, but i can't. like i said before, i have to work and don't have much time to dedicate to this, so i will come whenever i can. WhiteSnowflake8 03-02-2009, 02:49 PM Its not about paying to get all that stuff, its to help rotary events like this live on. Its not easy getting sponsors, and places to help out. So lets try and do our share too. I would pay the 37 just for a shirt even if i wouldn't go. But that's me. G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 03:34 PM Its not about paying to get all that stuff, its to help rotary events like this live on. Its not easy getting sponsors, and places to help out. So lets try and do our share too. I would pay the 37 just for a shirt even if i wouldn't go. But that's me. eh some people just dont care as much though. and they can only afford an rx8, not 37 dollars... geez :P WhiteSnowflake8 03-02-2009, 03:59 PM Yeah iv noticed that.. I dont mind spending some small cash on supporting our mazda community. which is getting smaller and smaller each year. Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 04:08 PM eh some people just dont care as much though. and they can only afford an rx8, not 37 dollars... geez :P $37 is gas for two weeks. some people just have different priorities. maybe next year you guys could make everyone who shows up and doesn't pay (to drive on a public road) wear a bright red t-shirt or something, so everyone knows. when i get there, i expect to see a booth set up on the side of the overlook hassling passers-by for money for looking at the cars. G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 04:23 PM $37 is gas for two weeks. some people just have different priorities. maybe next year you guys could make everyone who shows up and doesn't pay (to drive on a public road) wear a bright red t-shirt or something, so everyone knows. when i get there, i expect to see a booth set up on the side of the overlook hassling passers-by for money for looking at the cars. you are just simply missing the point . we are not paying a dime to drive (on a public road) its ok if you dont wanna support the event or community, we arent forcing you to do anything. WhiteSnowflake8 03-02-2009, 04:28 PM $37 is gas for two weeks. some people just have different priorities. maybe next year you guys could make everyone who shows up and doesn't pay (to drive on a public road) wear a bright red t-shirt or something, so everyone knows. when i get there, i expect to see a booth set up on the side of the overlook hassling passers-by for money for looking at the cars. I suggest you just stop posting before you keeping making yourself look bad. As stated above, its for a good cause. You might not see it, but don't go around saying we forcing people to pay to support something we all love. but im done posting. Its not the place to argue. Now my car is about done, should be complete by meet. can't wait! Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 04:35 PM if refusing to pay for something that i will get absolutely nothing out of makes me look bad, then so be it. i don't believe i ever used the word "forcing," just "hassling." here, i'll even contribute some to our little community: i can take two people in at my house, for free. i live 30 minutes away in knoxville and i have a nice, comfy couch and plenty of floor space. that should offset some of the cost of driving there, the cost of the event itself, AND the speeding tickets! G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 04:52 PM you dont even have to pay for a place to stay and you are still complaining about .. you just keep saying you get nothing out of it, when you are not realizing the point of what you do get out of it. And its not always something thats gonna benefit just you, selfish. you are the most un-enthused rotary fan i know. anyways. cant wait to see everyone there. i might be getting the big cabin across the street and will have some room for stragglers who cant find anywhere close. WhiteSnowflake8 03-02-2009, 04:55 PM I totally understand what you want to do. Not against it, it IS your money and you can do whatever you want. Just saying don't come to this thread and start saying stuff like that. They are trying to just hold a good "big" meet and yeah they need funding. Some people might not understand but just don't go around saying they are "hassling" people. This comment was just unnecessary; "maybe next year you guys could make everyone who shows up and doesn't pay (to drive on a public road) wear a bright red t-shirt or something, so everyone knows. when i get there, i expect to see a booth set up on the side of the overlook hassling passers-by for money for looking at the cars." Now we are all going to have fun, so lets just leave it at that. EDIT i also have a 4 bunk room, 1 bunk taken so far. Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 04:56 PM i think offering my house for three days to two complete strangers is quite generous. the reason i made the distinction that i wasn't paying in the first place is so that there wouldn't be any confusion, since obvious no payment will be received. i wasn't trying to rub it in. and the comment you just quoted needs to be taken in jest. Deals Gap Rotary Rally 03-02-2009, 06:04 PM $37 is gas for two weeks. some people just have different priorities. maybe next year you guys could make everyone who shows up and doesn't pay (to drive on a public road) wear a bright red t-shirt or something, so everyone knows. when i get there, i expect to see a booth set up on the side of the overlook hassling passers-by for money for looking at the cars. LOL!! You must be a first time rotary owner as you abviously doesn't know the meaning of "Big Money Pit!" :) Because if you really knew, you wouldn't be complaining about $37.00.. WOW! I guess we sure do live in a different priority and you have absolutely no clue how much time it goes into organizing an event like this at a remote location... Have you been to any car events besides your local FREE gatherings?? All I could say to you is, save your precious $37.00 so you could drive for another 2 weeks. I for sure prefer you don't show... And just so you know, Car show and such is held at a private property and I have every right to ask you to leave. Thanks to your comments, I will be in look out for your car and volunteers will ask you to leave. But I'm sure you wouldn't want to spend money to come out all the way there, so I don't have to worry... Priorities.. LMAO!! FYI: 90+% of people coming to this event are going to spend more than $37 on gas round trip... Some driving over 2000 miles to this event. G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 06:27 PM not to mention the high costs of lodging, which wouldnt be spent in his case. Oh well.. i live an hour and a half away and am very thankful to have such an awesome event so close! Cant wait. BTW, our cabin is number 110 for now and maybe number 90 if someone sees this and needs a place for themselves. All the cabins on the lodge side of the street are booked and the ones higher up than the 90, 105,110 are are gravel road and mountainous. 05rex8 03-02-2009, 07:17 PM wow, this thread got dramatic :uhh: G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 08:03 PM wow, this thread got dramatic :uhh: hey shutup drama queen.. its all your fault anyway.. hah jk. :) where you stayin? 05rex8 03-02-2009, 08:08 PM hey shutup drama queen.. its all your fault anyway.. hah jk. :) where you stayin? lol I'm staying in the lodge with the wifey....room number 2 I believe G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 08:28 PM lol I'm staying in the lodge with the wifey....room number 2 I believe ah cool. yea we are right across the street, they have 2 more lodge rooms available but i didnt want the hotel type feeling.. i guess you get to park in the lodge parking lot though atleast :P 05rex8 03-02-2009, 08:31 PM ah cool. yea we are right across the street, they have 2 more lodge rooms available but i didnt want the hotel type feeling.. i guess you get to park in the lodge parking lot though atleast :P yeah, I just went with whatever was cheapest, since it's a 900 mile drive for me TopGear8 03-02-2009, 09:39 PM Whoever partys the loudest outside gets a free private hottub ;) G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 03-02-2009, 09:58 PM LOL yea topgear and I, with our crowd, were crazy drunk and loud at BOTD... and the owner Lucy came and told us we were loud that she was gonna move us to the new spa so we can be loud there! Big Money Pit 03-02-2009, 10:03 PM LOL!! But I'm sure you wouldn't want to spend money to come out all the way there, so I don't have to worry... Priorities.. LMAO!! FYI: 90+% of people coming to this event are going to spend more than $37 on gas round trip... Some driving over 2000 miles to this event. i'm pretty sure that i made it explicitly clear that i wasn't going to crash any of your events, so there won't be a need for any of that. i don't want to attend any of them. that was... the whole point. did i say anything at all that indicated that i might or might not know how much time you put into this? no. i didn't, and that has nothing to do with anything i've said until now. i'm sure you've busted your ass over it and you've put in a lot of time organizing this, and good for you. but i'm still not going to pay money for something that i don't want to participate in, and can't participate in. you can wish me away all you want to (still unclear why you'd want to, since the presence of ANY rotary car at this event, paying or non-paying, makes it still an even bigger and more impressive event all around) but i'm still probably going to show up for an hour or two to run the dragon, check out some cars, and have a good time. i don't know where you got the indication that i'm going to come there and cause any kind of problem for you or your volunteers. my offer still stands to let some people crash with me in order to offset some of the cost of this event for those who have a long drive. i mean, if you don't mind staying with the DGRR 2009 pariah  Deals Gap Rotary Rally 03-03-2009, 08:21 AM So, Let me get this straight.. So, you don't want to spend $37.00 because of your priorities (and its 2 weeks of gas money) and I'm guessing you also don't want to support the rotary community?? Or is it just my event? Also by looks of it, you got interested in the 8 after last years DGRR... Or was it just coincidental.. LOL! i bought my 8 the day after DGRR. i came up there in a black prelude that day and hung out with some of my FB friends, wandered around, and then bought an 8 the very next day. Just remember, event like this takes time and $37, as some thinks its a great deal of money, is a form of support. Don't be contradicting when you clearly mentions "DGRR" in your previous posts and then antagonize by saying you are not going to pay money because the road is FREE. You are completely missing the point of what this event is all about... I would also appreciate it, if you don't support, just keep that to yourself instead of blabbering and contradicting yourself. It only shows your immaturity. Big Money Pit 03-03-2009, 08:43 AM i've never insinuated that i don't like your event; i think it's great. but unfortunately i won't be able to attend any of your activities because of time constraints. should i pay you anyway? I hate to break it to you, but there will be many a rotary owner that shows up without paying just to see some cars and run the dragon. i hope you don't give them as hard of a time as you have me. Deals Gap Rotary Rally 03-03-2009, 09:07 AM LOL!! Do you really don't know why you are getting such a hard time from me and others?? I would say this.. if you started off by saying, "I love DGRR, I bought my car day after last years event. Unfortunately, I have to work and can't attend most of the gathering such as the car show and banquet... Would it be ok for me to meet you guys on the dragon as I live few mins away??" If you said it that from start, I would surely said, "COME on out and join us on the dragon!" Instead, You state: well i know it's free; it's a public road. i don't really care much about all that other stuff. Which states you don't appreciate the time I put in to the other stuff:) Until we gave you hard time about it.. Then i'm just not going to pay $50 to drive on a road that i drive on regularly and check out some other cars for an hour or two. but that's just me. other people who have to drive longer than 30 minutes might want to make a bigger deal out of it than i do. So, what other people are stupid to pay $37??? And this.. $37 is gas for two weeks. some people just have different priorities. maybe next year you guys could make everyone who shows up and doesn't pay (to drive on a public road) wear a bright red t-shirt or something, so everyone knows. when i get there, i expect to see a booth set up on the side of the overlook hassling passers-by for money for looking at the cars. Bottomline, There are reasons... And to break it down to you, its not because they show up to the event without registering, its your attitude about it all. I have no issues with people coming to the event to check different cars and such. Obviously day before you bought your car, you didn't pay. I do hope they realize what kind of time and effort was put in and hope they would support vs. just showing up, but that's life. Just think about it, if it wasn't for the organizers of DGRR, there wouldn't be such event in your area. You might think its just a car show for 2 hours, but its actually meeting top rotary vendors and hanging out with enthusiasts for 2-3 days and talking about cars and driving together on various roads surrounding US129. That's what's its all about.. If DGRR is to make money, it would of been held at a huge parking lot and invite all the ricers who's willing to pay $20 to just park their car for half a day. Big Money Pit 03-03-2009, 09:17 AM ok then, we'll start over: I love DGRR, I bought my car day after last years event. NO. lol jk i think its just the point that you complain about paying the 37 and only taking advantage of the event for whats convenient for you, then post else where about buying new wheels and what not without problems finding that money. Ill get whatever wheels you want, give you a discount of 37 dollars, then you can register ? :P 05rex8 03-03-2009, 02:00 PM ^hahahaha ramos1556 03-24-2009, 09:07 PM Will be there! zeru57 03-26-2009, 11:59 AM We'll be heading down Thursday, ETA is unknown since we'll be traveling with the munchkin. Big Money Pit 04-16-2009, 09:34 AM you guys that are going make sure to follow the speed limit closely down by the lake before you actually start up toward the "fun" part. there's been a lot more enforcement down there than on the actual dragon as of late, partly because it's easier to enforce there. it's really easy to let your speed get away from you without noticing, which is why i say this. lots of straights and good scenery to distract you. if i can get away today, i'll probably show up for a few minutes if anyone wants to meet me, kick my ass, or otherwise. TopGear8 04-16-2009, 11:30 AM ^Yeah, a line of 5 RX8's got followed back to the village last year at BOTD and all were given tickets. Big Money Pit 04-16-2009, 11:38 AM i think i should also add that semi trucks coming down through there are an almost daily occurrence now. i've escorted three through there myself just this year, but normally the guys on bikes do a great job of warning everyone and escorting. this weekend is supposed to be much nicer than last weekend, and last weekend there were a fair amount of people up there crowding the pulloff. WhiteSnowflake8 04-16-2009, 11:51 AM Shit we leave in 11 hrs.. Now have to turn my car back to stock form or get this turbo fixed. prob stock lol Big Money Pit 04-16-2009, 12:56 PM since it's a nice weekend, photographers will be out in full force, and later next week you guys can look at/buy pictures of your car here: http://www.killboy.blogspot.com (< best!) http://www.moonshinephoto.com http://www.us129photos.com http://www.zeefoto.com WhiteSnowflake8 04-16-2009, 12:59 PM If anyone is interested in a turbo kit, Esmeril.
