View Full Version : RX8 Stands Out even in LA
mrpooh 12-09-2003, 01:58 PM Heya guys... I just bought my RX8 on Sat Dec 6 and I cant believe the response im getting from people here in the LA area.
I thought it would blend in with all the other sporty cars here like Beemers, Mercs and Porches...but so far it stands out from them!
Everytime I pull upto a light the car next to me rolls down there window and checks out my car....Ive had people almost get into accidents checking it out.
At work, everyone asks me if the price is closer to 50K or 60K!!
At gas station last nite...guy next to me asked me if it were some new Porche...that it was a hot ride and couldnt believe the price.
I JUST LOVE IT!
Outlaws eXtreme 12-09-2003, 02:21 PM If you come to "The OC" you'll see more RX-8s, probably because Irvine is Mazda US HQ. I've seen at least 3 RX-8s, not many still, but I doubt it will ever be a common car like the Civic/Accord/Celica/IS300/etc...
Toadman 12-09-2003, 02:34 PM It's truly a one-of-a-kind car. :D
Outlaws eXtreme 12-09-2003, 03:10 PM Well today as I drove to work, passed by Century City going to Rodeo, and I drove right next to an Enzo... Even though the guy checked out my 8, I still felt like my balls were clipped :)
danielk015 12-09-2003, 03:10 PM Obviously it has not become popular yet, but i have seen an rx-8 at least 25 times since july... prob some the same car, but i have seen all the colors on the road, besides the green... in car cities like LA-OC, i think rx-8's will been seen regularly.
bon911 12-09-2003, 03:56 PM I live in LA and I can't believe I haven't seen one on the road yet.
I am dying to see one.
Kaliken 12-09-2003, 04:22 PM drove mine to work today for the first time.. people have been oogling it all day... hehe I guess thats what happens when you get the money parking spot! (close and no one to ding me)
edit:
I have only seen one other in the south bay area.. but a couple in OC (91 in Anaheim and 405 down in Tustin Ranch)
mikeb 12-09-2003, 05:51 PM I saw a red one in costa mesa today on my way to work
but in 4 months of having my 8 I've seen 4 on the road
tribal azn2 12-09-2003, 06:19 PM seen like a hundred rx8's
Texas 8 12-09-2003, 06:23 PM I have yet to see one other than at the dealer. Then again, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm in BFE North Texas?? :-)

Seen them at dealerships don't count, and niether is the Mazda HQ in Irvine. :) We're talking about driving down the 405 and spotting one...etc etc..

duh. yes i have literrally seen like a hundred.
Outlaws eXtreme 12-09-2003, 08:36 PM You must drive an awful lot. I average about 180 miles per day going from OC to LA to SF Valley and back, and I've seen less than 20 since July. Only color I haven't seen is green. A lot of Titaniums.

weird, green is the least i have seen, only like 1, maybe its cause its so damn ugly.
and no i dont drive THAT much. maybe u live in the ghettos of OC:confused: :p?
i think irvine has the most amount concentrated, i have seen the most there. theres too many, it seems like everytime i go back i see more and more. also seen alot on the 57 and on the 5
Outlaws eXtreme 12-10-2003, 12:25 AM I actually own a condo in Newport area near PCH.. so it's not the ghetto of OC... Fullerton defintely is ghetto. Irvine is alright... can't bash my alma mater.

I get the same reactions. It's a great feeling. I hate telling people its 30k after they ask me how much. I'd love to tell them 50k, but then I'd have to fess up to my lies.
azianakuma 12-10-2003, 09:03 PM if you want to see a lot of 8's come down to the santa monica area ive seen quite a bit of them down there but nothin really speacial. as much as i love the 8 i only WISH it was it came with a stock TURBO right??.......
Techie36 12-10-2003, 09:29 PM I haven't seen a single 8 other than my own on the road, and I am literally all over the state of Georgia. I love it. While I'd like to see this car do well, it sure is nice having something so seemingly rare.
Techie36 12-10-2003, 09:31 PM Ug. Why do I keep picking up other users' names??
stangmatt66 12-12-2003, 11:57 AM Even in the OC, I've only seen 2 other RX-8s. Both black.
Hard 8 12-12-2003, 01:01 PM I've had mine for two months now, in Central California. Driving all the way from Lodi in the North to L.A. in the South I've seen only about two others. I still get mine checked out a lot. And loving it.
ProtoConVert 12-12-2003, 01:34 PM do people from orange country really call it "the oc", and did they before the show?
Kaliken 12-12-2003, 04:59 PM oh heavens no... I never heard it called "The OC" before the show. I have heard just "OC" but thats not that common.. Using the term OC is just as vague as using LA or Bay area. I have always used "Orange County"
Interstingly the show isn't even filmed in Orange County. According to a friend who works at the Manhattan Beach Studios production in OC would be costlier than in LA because of the travel distance. I have no idea where they do film the show though.
Hard 8 12-12-2003, 05:02 PM The expression I've heard for decades is "behind the Orange Curtain." :D

People do refer to OCC though... Orange Coast College, some of the finest ladies with low IQs around. :) Oops, shhh....
