am from pakistan and i recently bought a 2003 rx8....since i bought it it has been giving me some problems..one of which is that when ever i drive it over a bumpy road or over cat-eyes,my suspension makes a noise like it is loose or something...at first i thought that it is normal since rx8`s suspension is very stiff....but another guy who has an rx8 told me it shouldnt happen...what could be the possible reason for this and should i keep on driving like it is?
plz can somebody tell me the possible reason?

 

Hi and welcome.

It could be a couple of things. You should have a mechanic check out and torque down all your suspension bolts.

Also check to make sure your sway bar endlinks are not broken off.

Also it could be a broken shock.

Put the car on a lift and inspect the suspension and see if there is anything disconnected.

Also see if you can isolate which wheel the noise is coming from.

 

I second the loose/broken endlink possibility. Look at the links that connect the ends of your front and rear swaybars.

 

Since the weather has been much colder here in the mornings, my suspensio(mainly the front) creaks LOUDLY when going over parking lot speed bumps. This only happens when the car is cold, and subsides upon warming up/cycling the suspension for a short while.

Stealership "checked it out" and of course, found nothing... Any ideas??

Grease sway bar bushings.

 

Front end links. There's a TSB on the Rosenthal Finish Line site for these. But mine broke again after the dealer replaced them even with aftermarket bars, springs, and dampers. So, I ordered the AP end links to take care of the clunk.

 

+1 on greasing bushings!

 

I had a problem with my car that the stock exhaust would bump against the heat shield when I hit a speed bump or a pot hole. Not sure about a fix for that, as I replaced the stock exhaust with an aftermarket one not long after.

 

Thank you v.much Shaunv74 and SouthFL....i think i will have to grease the sway bar bushings as it cannot be a broken shock....i got it checked last year and it was making the same noise....and if nethng ws broken it wud have come up....moreover one more problem...the water/coolant level in my rx8 keeps dropping....i located the leak near my dashboard near the AC unit i guess....it aint serious right?i mean i can still drive my car provided i fill the water regularly coz my mechanic is out of town.

 

Yup, They greased the bushings, and it's as bad as ever. It was 26* here this morning, and creeping over the speed bumps in the apt. complex was loud--front and rear. I'll be checking into the TSB soon...

 

Did you figure out what the noise is?
