View Full Version : Battlestar Galactica
Aesculapius 12-08-2003, 10:49 PM Hey Everyone!
Just wanted to know if anyone had a chance to see the new Battlestar Galactica mini-series on SciFi this evening.
It was actually pretty good. A lot of really cool references to the original series. There were some questionable changes (e.g. Starbuck and Boomer are female) but overall I really enjoyed the first part.
Any thoughts?
Genom 12-09-2003, 07:09 AM I sorta watched it while doing some other stuff. I recorded it on my tivo anyways to be able to watch it later but it looked pretty interesting. At the begining I was wondering what was up with all the kissing and sex though, but later on it got a lot more interesting. Hope to watch it tonight and the new episode.
Elara 12-09-2003, 07:12 AM I thought it was pretty interesting- I'll have to wait and see the rest of the miniseries before I form any opinions though. I do like how it's darker than the original, but I'm worried that they lost the sense of the original as well. Still freaks me out that Starbuck is a woman.

i was wondering whether this would be a remake, a prequel, or a sequel to the original series...it seems to deviate from the orignal quite a bit especially with the female Starbuck and the "human" form Cylons...
now they gotta remake Buck Rogers and his penis shaped head robot Twiki
Zoom2X 12-09-2003, 10:40 AM I liked it for the most part. They are a little closer to reality in how the ships move. Thrusters to turn, flying backwards and shooting, etc. However they still showed several ships moving on curving courses without thrusters, looks cooler I guess. Also how is it that a high value asset like a Battlestar has no point defenses that are effective against a single missle? You would figure that they would have at least a couple of gun turrets, anti-missle missles, chaff and flare dispensers, etc. instead they had NOTHING, had to sit there and watch it hit.
All the technical stuff aside, I thought it was better than average and am looking forward to the next part.
AlexCisneros 12-09-2003, 11:20 AM Well, starbuck was a WOMAN...izer in the original ;)
Magic8 12-09-2003, 02:39 PM At least the new Starbuck still likes to chump on a cigar ;)

Galactica was in the process of becoming a museum -- so no ammo. I think the "search for ammo" will be one of the topics for tonight's episode...
I'm also looking forward to seeing more of this. I think it's interesting how they've changed around a lot of the "original" characters, timelines, and issues. It makes it much better than simply "retelling" the original story.
klegg 12-09-2003, 03:11 PM I thought it was well done, and I am enjoying it despite the fact that I am a huge fan of the original. starbuck as a women was strange at first, but I have to say the actress is pulling it off well. I really like the cigar! And the first show kudos, like the cylon in the glass case ,are great. The thing I can not get used to was boomer, not only a women but insecure, a whole lot diffrent then the old boomer....and were is jolly? (fat guy, brown hair, mustache?)
I hear that they will do a series, if this show does well.....That would be welcome, god knows I am desperate for good scifi...I miss FARCSCAPE!!

They made a point of saying there was no ammo....that is why they are going to the armory tonight, with the cylon fleet between them...

They seemed to have had plenty of ammo for those old Vipers that were part of the museum. Starbuck alone must have hosed off about 500 rounds at that one missle. Maybe they should have saved some of that for their CIWS. ;) (I know, I know different manufacturer so it's incompatable)
antman_x 12-09-2003, 06:45 PM I too like the show. Pretty decent cast but what up with the dry erase boards all over the place?

Chrisbert 12-09-2003, 10:05 PM I always had the hots for Wilma, but I thought Tweeky looked like a dick. Wazzup with that head?
Elara 12-09-2003, 10:08 PM They ARE going to continue that into a series, right? They can't leave it hanging like that!
eccles 12-09-2003, 10:11 PM When I saw the thread title I thought you must be referring to the 350Z. :p
Toadman 12-09-2003, 11:25 PM Yep, it's a mini-series. Episodes 1 and 2 (where they armor up the archaic Galactica) ran back-to-back tonight to let those who missed the first catch up. Looks surprisingly addictive.

So true. I liked it. The female cylon is so hot. Did anybody see her in Maxim? Didn't care about the kissing. Kinda cheesy and out of place.

LOL......Never thought about it that way:D

Knerk 12-10-2003, 10:02 AM I couldnt stand how near the end the all kept repeating "So says us all!" or something like that. That was driving me nucking futs!
Zoom2X 12-10-2003, 11:20 AM I don't see why they have such trouble identifying the cylons that look like humans, at least with the female ones. If the gal is all over ya then she's a cylon. ;)
zoom44 12-10-2003, 11:31 AM boomer is a Cylon!!!

They said that if the if the show was well recieved and ratings were better than average then they would make it into a series on Sci-Fi. Kinda like what they are doing with Stargate SG-1 and Farscape.

True.
Adamma told the president and the tour guide stated the same thing that the ships' computers systems were not networked to prevent the Cylons from hacking into the system and taking down the whole ship.

it's a military ship!
If you don't speak up loud enough then the CO tells you "I can't hear you!" then you say it louder untill he can "hear" you!.
Hooah!

I thought they were making a Farscape movie? I know there's been a huge outcry about them dumping it (my husband is one of them) but is there actually talk about bringing it back then?
rlfletch 12-10-2003, 12:51 PM Great Show! It's a nice change to see people actually scared sh!tless of "Nucular" war.

I know its like to be CO you half to fail your hearing test. I hate that "I can't hear you!" crap. If your standing right next to me & can't hear me - stay away from me in combat if you dont mind . :D
Toadman 12-10-2003, 01:25 PM I liked how all the Galactica's databases and logs were written in paper notebooks and immune to Cylon viruses. If they keep the retro style it looks to be a winner. The Viper fighters with analog guages is a classic, but they can go with more realism deleting the jet turbofan engines that don't work without an oxygen atmosphere(See the scene with Ms. Starbuck sitting in her fighter).
:)
antman_x 12-10-2003, 01:53 PM Since Boomer is a cylon wil they have her doing hot sex scenes too! She's way hot!
Oh and for fans of the original can you remind me how they explain that when they get to earth we don't have technology any where near the the Galatica's?

I wonder is she is related to Linda Park form Star Trek:"Enterprise"
She has the same last name so.
klegg 12-10-2003, 10:04 PM You may very well be right, good call!
flyboyindy 12-10-2003, 10:22 PM Battlestar Galactica was incredible back in 78-79... and even more so now.. Anyone have the Xbox game yet?
zoom44 02-06-2004, 08:08 PM does anyone know when they are going to do the new series?

And this posted at rx7club by Icemark:
We've heard the producer's talk of the show's potential, now its the main actor's turn according to scooper 'CM':
"So there I was in Sherman Oaks, California in the last few days of December, and who should I catch an elevator with but Edward James Olmos. He was coming from watchign a movie. I asked him how "Galactica" was coming along for him, whether it was all over or whether they would be doing another miniseries, a regular series, etc...
He seemed certain they would be making a series, as he mentioned they would begin shooting "next month" (meaning January 2004). He also asked me if I had seen the show, to which I had to reply, "no." I don't get the Sci-Fi Channel on my cable plan. He then asked if I was a fan of the original show, to which I replied that I loved it when it was first on... when I was 13 years old.
I brought up the Richard Hatch issue (which he sidestepped) and he said he would tell me what he told anyone about the show: "If you're a big fan of the first show, you'll probably hate the new one, so don't even watch it. But if you have an open mind or aren't fanatical about recreating the original series, you ought to enjoy it. Overall, Mr. Olmos was very gracious, friendly and communicative".
Thanks to 'CM'

SCI-FI seems to be dragging its heels as far as committing goes. I wonder if there are any other issues besides cost?
klegg 02-08-2004, 07:27 PM SCi-FI has shown us that they are controlled by the bean counters....Remember FARSCAPE, one of the best shows on TV ever..
