Simple Installation Video will be upload once the youtube have fixed their problems.
FAQ:
1. Regarding the load resistor problem, Tamas has given a brief explanation below. "you only need the resistor if you replace both tail/brake lights and the third brake light with LEDs. If you have the LED 3rd brake light but keep the filament bulbs in the other two, then you won't have a problem."
2. Rubber gasket is included but by using your stock OEM rubber gasket will give a better fitment.
3. Red and black wires just have to splice it to the plug originally from the brake light. Red goes to the Black and Yellow wires, Black goes to the Black.
4. Buying a small connector plug for the wire is recommended, around 50 cents.
5. Everything is direct fit, no modification is needed for the fitment.

ShellDude 12-11-2008, 08:04 PM add shelldude assuming the alignment problem in the pictures is an optical illusion. Something doesn't look right...
rx8evo 12-11-2008, 08:22 PM That smoked one looks great. The asking price 51.50 isn't a bad price either.
Galen Darkmoon 12-11-2008, 08:35 PM Very nice, if I didn't already have the RX8 emblem in mine I would go for it. :)
lilring 12-11-2008, 09:43 PM Please Check you PM asap

Ross_Dawg 12-11-2008, 10:37 PM I hate to pry... but did you take any pictures of the tinted lights day/night?
Looks like you only have pics of the clear installed... TIA

+2.....!
LionZoo 12-12-2008, 12:53 AM It looks like there's an alignment issue with the first daytime picture. Otherwise I'd be interested, but if the fitment isn't spot on I'll pass.
MazdaEight 12-12-2008, 12:57 AM Pattern and overall look is great but it doesn't look flush. It looks sunk into the trunk.
Ross_Dawg 12-12-2008, 01:18 AM correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is what we are worried about:

Actually i would say that picture shows a bit off but it did came out pretty good on fitment, i would say if you are using the stock rubber gasket will be even better, i will try to install a different one tmr and take a close up picture. The paypal will be solve tmr. sorry for the delay.
jeffRX 12-12-2008, 04:13 AM i think it looks good
ShellDude 12-12-2008, 06:08 AM Ross Dawg's got it... that's the one that got my attention. I'll have to pass if that's going to be "normal" fitment.
Andreas Neophytou 12-12-2008, 11:41 AM I am interested for the Tinted version.ADD ME TOO. Can I have a quote for Cyprus (Europe) please.
lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 12-12-2008, 12:56 PM Regarding the fitment issue, i double check and make sure that is the picture's problem, let me explain how i said so. first, when we look at picture at that angle, we saw the clear plastic on the side and since inside is dark, it shows that there is a gap but actually there is no gap but the clear plastic in the side made us confuse. Picture below clearly shows the side is clear and when you put into the trunk it will cover up the light and looks black.
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee249/ray91511/DSC03521.jpg
but if we look at the front picture, it will not be a problem and everything fit fine.
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee249/ray91511/DSC03458-2.jpg
Hope this will answer you guys' question. Don't let the pictures confuse you or i might take that picture off if needed. thanks.
ShellDude 12-12-2008, 01:00 PM That helps quite a bit, thank you! Put me down for clear now that I understand.
Ross_Dawg 12-12-2008, 01:10 PM oh yeah that cleared it up... thanks man
I'll take the tinted one :)
lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 12-12-2008, 01:39 PM paypal address changed, this should works fine guys, thanks
Tamas 12-12-2008, 03:10 PM So saki, the one you have installed (and shown in the pictures) - is that the clear one or the smoked? Just asking because it seems it's the clear but you said you got the smoked.
The photo of the uninstalled smoked light seems to have a much darker tint than your installed pics would suggest.
lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 12-12-2008, 03:15 PM those are the smoke tinted one, seems like under the sun it looks like clear. But the picture for the uninstall one is the one that i installed. maybe it is too bright to see the light tint. the camera setting might be an issue as well.
onyx8 12-12-2008, 03:31 PM Hey saki, i'm having the same error message when trying to send money using Paypal even with the new address. Thanks
rx8thunder 12-12-2008, 03:32 PM How much is it to ship to Canada l6h5w4 -- they don't answer their email... Would like to order

egads 12-13-2008, 11:45 AM Anybody have any idea if this will work on the '09 model? It'll probably fit fine, I think the brake light and port is the same. But what about the load resistor problem? The OEM tail lights are already LEDs so would that be a problem?
laythor 12-13-2008, 12:11 PM for 50 bucks i'd say try it, you could always resell it here if it doesn't work.
Ross_Dawg 12-13-2008, 12:59 PM Looks like I'm #10... Payment sent for clear verison.

onyx8 12-16-2008, 03:41 AM ^just tell saki to put you on the list and what color you want, then when you wanna pay, see instructions in first post

I just asked this question to Rotary Rasp -- which is our resident LED expert. You need one resistor per turn signal (wired in series) if you have LED turn signals, you do not need any for brake lights.
The resistors should be about 10 ohms, 25W each. Don't buy them, you can make them for pennies... just go over to any electrical supply store and pick up the resistors (like $0.05 each), some shrink wrap ($0.50/yard -- you'll need about an inch per resistor) and some connectors or wire taps (maybe $0.25). These things are so over priced it makes me want to start selling some :)

Thats right I said red :P
Ross_Dawg 12-18-2008, 02:35 PM OK I got my light in the mail today... looks good upon opening. The light itself IS back pretty far into the housing (will have to wait how it looks once installed). Smoked is not really smoked that much, so I will try to darken up the tint when I get home. Other than that, looks like good build quality and housing. I won't be able to install it until Jan. when I get home but hopefully someone else will upload pics when recieved.
lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 12-18-2008, 02:54 PM thanks for the heads up Ross, hope you like the product and let me know if you have any problems or questions, thanks.
TheWulf 12-18-2008, 02:55 PM I hope mine gets here within the next week... my 8 is parked for the winter at my mom's and I get to check up on her over xmas :)
Knowing customs I'll get it by Valentine's day :(
Ross_Dawg 12-18-2008, 02:57 PM thanks for the heads up Ross, hope you like the product and let me know if you have any problems or questions, thanks.
yeah super fast shipping is always a plus too ;)
BBQdDude 12-18-2008, 03:17 PM Ross, how was the fitment in your opinion?
Take care,
Brian
<edit>Whoops, missed the January install comment my bad.
Anyone else get theirs installed yet?</edit>
05rex8 12-18-2008, 09:58 PM I got mine too, same one as Ross.
I did not get to install it, probably tomorrow. I will take pics. The smoked is not that dark, but it looks good still. Easily fixed if wanted. And yes the light is far back into the housing, but the oem one is about the same. Can't wait to install it. Thanks saki for setting this up. Fast delivery.
ShellDude 12-18-2008, 10:07 PM I should have mine tomorrow or saturday. Perhaps i can install it on Sunday. Will provide an update once I have one.
Aipex8 12-19-2008, 12:11 AM Got mine installed. I actually removed the LED array from the clear housing that was provided and installed it into the stock housing. I like the serrated plastic that the stock housing has and it has a better gasket and fits better. I was surprised at how bright it is. Maybe twice as bright as the stock light. Very nice. Now I need to LEDize my 4th brake light. A few pics (just a few... it's freezing out!)

05rex8 12-19-2008, 12:22 AM nice job, good idea on using the oem housing
would be easy to tint that for us smoked guys
lilring 12-19-2008, 12:55 AM ^ just buy the smoke one
05rex8 12-19-2008, 01:02 AM I bought the smoked one :uhh:
it's sitting in my garage
what I meant was if the oem housing fits better, than Aipex8's idea is the way to go...and easy to tint it if smoke is wanted

I'm sure the aftermarket housing would have fit with some more work, but it definitely didn't pop in like the OEM housing does. Not complaining though, nice bright LEDs for a good price.
Andreas Neophytou 12-19-2008, 02:36 AM Paid mine. SMOKED. :)
BBQdDude 12-19-2008, 08:00 AM Payment sent, PM sent, smoked for me.

rx8speeddmon 12-19-2008, 07:20 PM Received mine today, should have it installed sometime next week. I probably won't post pics, as it will just look like the other Ti-gray 8's, but first impression is that this is product well worth the money..... Thanks for setting this up Saki!!
lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 12-19-2008, 07:48 PM no problem, hope you enjoy the product and let me know if you have any problems or questions.
ShellDude 12-19-2008, 08:00 PM mine came in today too... another tit gray so I probably won't bother with pictures either... still on the fence about which assembly to go with and since it's 30 degrees out I'm not in a big hurry to decide. Maybe Sunday for install if it's not too cold.
lopezian2004 12-19-2008, 08:54 PM i've got a brilliant black.. think the tinted would look good on that? i'm tempted to buy it!
Ross_Dawg 12-20-2008, 01:19 AM i've got a brilliant black.. think the tinted would look good on that? i'm tempted to buy it!

marsredr100 12-20-2008, 06:01 PM I received mine today and swapped the clear housing with the OEM like Aipex8 did. Great upgrade and goes well with the rest of my LEDs.

ShellDude 12-21-2008, 12:04 AM put mine in today as a total swap... zero complaints, looks awesome, would definitely recommend soup to nuts.
thanks for the GB!
lilring 12-21-2008, 03:45 AM I have a tinted one that is going on tuesday and my 8 is titanium gray
Andreas Neophytou 12-21-2008, 07:59 AM I am waiting mine also.
My OEM housing is scratched so I will not use it.
I will install it as it is. Will that be ok?
longpath 12-21-2008, 10:08 AM Clearly these are very bright, and I do like the safety advantage of having a brake light that comes on instantly instead of having a quarter to eighth second hesitation as the incandescent filament heats up (maybe it's actually less than that; but that's what it seems like to me); but I couldn't see in the discussion (and I did use the search function for the words voltage and regulation) if there is any circuitry to protect the LEDs from normally occurring voltage variations in the RX-8's electrical system. In reading up on the tail lights that Rotary Rasp used to produce, I noticed that RR went to considerable effort to protect LEDs from voltage variations to ensure their long life. Is there anything similar in these?
laythor 12-21-2008, 11:01 AM I'd suggest PM'ing RR and asking him. He might not see your post. Then paste anything he says back here.

it'll be fine... i went ahead and did a full swap after completely dismantling my stock housing. I didn't see a lot of difference between old and new, except that the rubber seal was actually a bit better suited on the new one.

Ya know, I thought about that too but didn't take the time to pop open the new housing to see what all is in there so I can't add much here. Although, prior to reading your post, I had already considered the "fail" potential of these lights and while doing my installation instead of completely cutting the OEM plug, I merely tapped into it using wire taps so that if I ever need to go back to the conventional bulb connector, I can with minimal effort.
So, in the months ahead if we find "fail", for me it will be a matter of making a visit to v-leds, picking out a nice multi-angle, multi-led, regulated LED, gutting the new clear housing (the stock is red), and going back to the old connector.
yeah, I know... I'm rambling.
lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 12-21-2008, 02:24 PM thanks for all those pictures guys, really hope you guys enjoy the product and have a great Christmas time with those LEDs. =]

Yeah, I made sure I could go back to stock also. I actually had a 7440 bulb with a plastic base, so I removed the bulb and soldered the wires right to that so I can plug right in to the stock connector. I also added a 10ohm 1watt resistor like I use on all my other LEDs for protection.
05rex8 12-21-2008, 10:38 PM I installed my smoked brake light tonight. I didn't connect the wires yet though, as I'm going to use Shelldude's method with some wire taps. I'll pick some up tomorrow. As for the fitment, I noticed that I could not get the lens to fit flush with the trunk like the stock one. I compared the OEM gasket with the aftermarket one. The OEM one is foam, as the aftermarket is a hard rubber. I swapped gaskets with the OEM one and it fit PERFECT. The problem is the aftermarket gasket is too thick. So I suggest everyone who is having this issue, to swap out gaskets. Here's some pics.

yup, I'll get more pix going too.
also just a side note on the OEM gasket....it is glued to the housing with some light adhesive...so pull gently, otherwise you may tear it beyond use
ShellDude 12-21-2008, 11:19 PM I have to say that smoked looks very nice on white. Something I noticed as I tightened down the aftermarket assembly (with the aftermarket gasket) was that it sealed nicely once I got the nuts securely fastened...
With the OEM light there was about a 1mm space between the light and the gasket that I don't have with the aftermarket one.... possibly a bonus as it's one less thing that can potentially cause water to leak into the trunk.... mileage may vary?

It's actually sunlight silver :D:
I tried tightening it to make it seat flush like you did, but did nothing :dunno:
ShellDude 12-21-2008, 11:35 PM oops, my apologies.... sunlight silver it is... and very nice!
something I should add on the wires....
yellow on black = positive
black = negative
so...
red from new light taps into yellow on black
and
black from new light taps into black
05rex8 12-21-2008, 11:37 PM not your fault, bad lighting :)

Nopstnz8 12-22-2008, 11:31 PM Does anyone know how this would look with an Rx8 brake light cover? Will you still be able to see the LED's, or would this defeat the purpose? I'm thinking of using these:
http://www.rx8strakes.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=298
The gunsmoke set allows a 93% light output, so it's not too dark. It should match the 3rd brake light pretty good, since that is not heavily smoked.

i definitely noticed the fact that it's not flush. i'll take the advice from previous posts to swap out for the oem gasket. it looks so nice though, too bad i'll hardly see it!! :) i'll have to back into parking spots in front of glass store-fronts every once in a while to remind myself!

Smoked lens or OEM without the mask. The LEDs are bright enough that you can see them through the mask and the light they put out isn't diffuse, they are individual dots of light. I just don't think it works well with the mask. The pics of the first setup look great though.
Ross_Dawg 01-04-2009, 09:46 PM Yeah I'm going to stick with the Smoked upgrade... looks a lot cleaner than with the mask. Thanks

Ross_Dawg 01-04-2009, 11:13 PM all of my clips you just had to unscrew using a Phillips...
you have to give them a pretty good yank
If they aren't the "screw" type, you have to loosen the smaller circle away from the outer circle using a flathead of some sort (exacto, small flathead screwdriver etc.)

Andreas Neophytou 01-05-2009, 05:00 AM Ok guys.
Just received mine this morning and installed it.
I had some probs with the rubber around the light.
It was new and very hard so the light as much as I tried to push it would not sit in right place.
So was I did I replaced the new rubber with the old one. And it worked.
BTW IT LOOKS AWESOME ON WHITE.

I have the same problem. PM'd Saki, said it is probably an RSX brake light and that he'd send a return label so I can get the right one. Just waiting for the label now.
lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 01-06-2009, 12:26 PM sorry about the problem of the last 3 orders, they contacted me and said they accidentally sent out the RSX one instead of the Rx8 one in the last 3 orders. 8rocks 01-12-2009, 12:08 AM Yes, patience is a virtue! But, the frustrating part is lack of communication. I am sure myself and perhaps others would be content with a simple response explaining the delay in shipment of the new batch.

Ross_Dawg 01-12-2009, 12:41 AM hmm... could you get a picture of the clips you're trying to get off? Because I'm only aware of the phillips threaded one and the flattop pry-out clip thingy. Sounds like yours is neither?

Hold the outer piece of the plastic while you unscrew the middle. Do not push on it too hard or it will pop in again. Trust me they are threaded. Unless some one replaced them or butchered the threads.
Good Luck

http://www.rx8club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=131900&stc=1&d=1231873774
it had a little plastic piece ratting around inside it. I think that was the broken part of the tab.
However, I've seen some people say that the used the stock bracket. Are they referring to the clear plastic outside? Maybe I don't need the broken part. The inside is ok I think.
onyx8 01-13-2009, 02:25 PM ^Yeah they were referring to that, or using the stock gasket with the new light. I think in your case you would want to put the LEDs in the stock housing, although it does look like you should still be able to install that piece no problem.
Marvel 01-13-2009, 02:30 PM although it does look like you should still be able to install that piece no problem.
It's kind of a crap picture. You can't see it but that whole tab is split through where the bolt would go. But it seems like everyone is using the stock housing anyway.
8rocks 01-17-2009, 07:45 PM The lights arrived yesterday. They were late arriving but definitely worth the wait. I installed using the new housing that came with the lights, but used the OEM foam surround. Installed this morning, and they look and fit great. I really can't tell if they are clear or smoked, but they look good nonetheless.
For those that were waiting to see pics of the tinted tails with these LEDs, SORRY! I tried installing the film myself, had the blow dryer going and everything but couldn't get it to wrap nicely around the contours. I ultimately ended up tearing the film. But, I will be tinting the windows in the near future and will get the tail lamps done at the same time. Will post pictures then!
Saki - thanks. Great product!
WVBoosted8 01-18-2009, 12:14 AM I received my replacement today 23 days after payment. I would be happy with the product if it wasn't covered in some sort of adhesive that goo gone won't even remove. I doubt it will even come off so I guess I am forced to spend more time using my factory housing..... I guess you get what you pay for.

Ross_Dawg 01-20-2009, 12:37 AM hmm that seems a little bit ridiculus... like somebody got a little to excited when they made that light??
If they wont send you a replacement just try to file a paypal claim i guess...
8rocks 01-20-2009, 12:59 AM Hold the outer piece of the plastic while you unscrew the middle. Do not push on it too hard or it will pop in again. Trust me they are threaded. Unless some one replaced them or butchered the threads.
Good Luck
I guess I should've tried more than one before seeking help. The threads were shot on the one I was trying to remove (Murphy's law). The rest were a breeze though. Thanks for the help.
onyx8 01-20-2009, 02:00 AM It's kind of a crap picture. You can't see it but that whole tab is split through where the bolt would go. But it seems like everyone is using the stock housing anyway.
It seems like the bolt would still hold up, it doesnt exactly need to be torqued down. In any case you could just use the stock housing, even if you got the tinted one, its not much different than the clear one. Just make sure you use the stock gasket as well.
Ross_Dawg 01-20-2009, 04:36 PM I ended up just using the gasket that came with the light... after a rainy day I checked and there were no leaks.
Tamas 01-20-2009, 04:57 PM Hm... the more stories I read from people having various types of issues, the less likely it seems that this'd be a worthwhile purchase.
Pity :icon_no2:
Ross_Dawg 01-20-2009, 04:59 PM To be honest, the light really does look sooo much better than that stock red light. This was well worth it in my book

Yeah, I decided I need a replacement because there is no way I am going to settle with using my stock housing when I ordered SMOKED for a reason :/
TheWulf 01-26-2009, 02:04 PM Received mine... can't test it for another few months as car is parked for the winter, but at least it's in my hands.
WVBoosted8 01-26-2009, 05:39 PM I haven't received any word yet.
Ross_Dawg 01-27-2009, 12:58 AM huh... did you end up filing a claim?
kainis2k 01-27-2009, 09:36 PM It seemed as though this thread started out nicely but is turning into a fail. I want this 3rd brake light but not if I get stiffed like the last couple of guys...
Ross_Dawg 01-27-2009, 09:44 PM that's what it seems like... My light was on my doorstep 5 days after I paid for it, but WV has been waiting for ever...
kainis2k 01-27-2009, 09:45 PM Yeah I'll steer clear in that case...
longpath 01-27-2009, 09:57 PM Was it ever established what sort of surge protection is built into this circuit? It seems like a very cool addition; but, I'd hate to install it, only to have it fail in 4 to 6 months.
WVBoosted8 01-28-2009, 12:29 AM Ill file a claim tomorrow if nothing is done. I just want a freaking smoked brake light
Ross_Dawg 01-28-2009, 12:32 AM Yeah I feel for ya, it really does look great though. (sorry to rub it in)

I feel for you dude...your patience is really being tested. I am sure you have already tried but in case you haven't, after applying goo gone let it sit for about a minute, and then try rubbing it off with a wet chamois. Good luck!
The lights do look good though
WVBoosted8 01-28-2009, 12:49 AM It isnt coming off, ive tried 2 different kinds of adhesive remover and I am at my limits.
Dispute Opened. I either want a refund, or a functional, correct looking item.
WVBoosted8 02-01-2009, 08:30 PM Well paypal apparently isn't any help and the dispute ended with a sorry, we only guarentee shipment of the product..... I thought they helped with different than described and faulty goods as well. I guess I can just swap houses and smoke them myself. In the meantime I guess I will sell the rsx ones to recoup my loss.
05rex8 02-01-2009, 08:34 PM this is ridiculous...I had no problems getting mine and looks great....what happened to saki? c'mon dude, step up here and resolve the issues in your GB.

Sounds like paypal is giving you a runaround. I've had issues with products paid with paypal in the past, and was always able to get a refund. You might wanna push a little harder!
Saki - you gotta make this right! WV's issues have been going on for about 2 months, 1st a wrong light and now this. I am still waiting for a return label for the rsx light also, it wasn't included with the 2nd shipment like you had mentioned.

I say sell it if you got the right one now. Screw them. Serves them right.

yeah, I saw...just use the oem lense and tint it yourself...it would be incredibly easy.
WVBoosted8 02-01-2009, 09:43 PM and better quality also! I'm not expecting a response from saki, hes seen this thread multiple times since the problems have started. I guess I will paint it on the next sunny day.
05rex8 02-01-2009, 09:53 PM Maybe get an admin involved since they approved this GB. This should be addressed.

Ya another week and I am selling it. A month should be more than plenty of time (even for a procrastinator) to send a return label.
egads 02-02-2009, 12:29 AM 8rocks, what you're going through really sucks. I don't understand why they aren't being responsive. I'm one of the ones that got the wrong light (think it was the RSX one) and I got a return label in a day and got the correct brake light a few days after that.
Thought I'd post some pictures of it installed since I haven't seen any '09 pics yet. I've always thought the '09 looked weird with OEM LED side lights and a bulb 3rd brake light. Even with the light off it didn't match since the new panels are mostly reflective silver which didn't seem to go well with the reddish 3rd brake light. I think this new light looks much better both with the light on and off but you be the judge.

It's actually WVBOOSTED that is still having problems. I got my replacements, just not the return label for the RSX lights they had shipped out originally.
Your car definitely looks WAY better with the LEDs. Congrats.
I just realized you are in Livermore....you come to the meets? Fortunate Few had mentioned there is one coming up in Tracy..... should try and make it.

I actually met Fortunate Few at one of the Mazda meets in Dublin and I'll be going to the USCM in April. But I didn't hear about one in Tracy. When's that?

WVBoosted8 02-09-2009, 10:07 PM Can we shut down this Group buy and make sure this guy never gets any "group rip offs" started again. I'm going straight to the company tomorrow and tell them what kind of message saki is giving people about their products.
If any of you guys consider buying anything else from him, I'd take this customer service into consideration, and better believe I will speak up every thread I see. Thanks!
Ross_Dawg 02-10-2009, 12:20 AM I'm sorry you're having such a ridiculous time getting your light. Let us know what happens at the company tomorrow
Aipex8 02-10-2009, 11:05 AM I'm really sorry to hear that you're having such a crap time getting your light WV. Keep us posted on what happens. I don't understand why saki would start this strong and then just fizzle out. Shady.
On a lighter note. I was a little disappointed that the chrome around the LEDs didn't really match the chrome in the taillight housings, which I really wanted for that factory look. The chrome quite a bit brighter. The smoked lense makes it too dark though. Then I came across this thread:
http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=165896
I bought some Rit dye and did some experimenting. I ended up getting the aftermarket housing that came with the kit the perfect color, and as a bonus, after soaking the stock housing the gasket came off easily so I could use it with the aftermarket one. Anyway, it's a very subtle change. Let me know what you think.
Before, chrome is much brighter than the tails:

After, looks like a match:

WVBoosted8 02-10-2009, 04:13 PM Id watch out for anything sold by Racer-union.com, or spyderauto.com. Both companies are the same and giving me the run around when I call. I wouldn't be as pissed if I had paid this saki guy but I my payment went to john at spyderauto.com. They will recieve enough phone calls to make this right and I hope saki is laughed off this forum for his "wonderful customer service."
WVBoosted8 02-13-2009, 12:30 PM I finally got ahold of Ray at Spyderauto after going through a LOUSY (microsoft style) operator. He said he should be able to send out a new brakelight in the next couple days. It sucks you have to bypass the operator of the group buy to get the slightest amount of customer service. I will inform you if this one isn't a complete piece of junk.
