Squeeling noise when reversing

Hi All,

My 04 has developed a slight problem: when the car is in reverse it makes a really high pitched squeeling noise... I have no idea what it is. The noise is only there when it is in reverse and I am giving it gas, but it does not make a sound if it is reverse and I have the clutch down.

any thoughts?

thanks

Is it only when the car is moving in reverse? If so, it may be your wear indicators on the brake pads notifying you of worn brake pads. If that is the cause the squeal will eventually happen when you go forward as well.

Are you sure you're not backing up over babies? They can make a preety high pitch squeel...

justjim- It's only when the car is moving and in reverse (or if it is is neutural and the car is rolling backwards)-- and also, it happens even when the clutch is down (i said early it didn't, but confirmed last night that it did). It is only happening when I go forward.

refugeefrompistons- its much more of a high pictched squeal--- sounds like metal rubbing on each other, but not grinding---- it hard to explain.

thanks for you help

I think it's probably your brake wear indicators... can you locate the sound? If it's the brakes, it's most likely going to be the fronts.
