As i bought my rx8 secondhand so i am still fussing with some of the features of rx. So here it goes

1. What is the purpose of IR receiver in the navigation screen as shown by the below picture.

2. My open and tilt buttons for navigation screen are not working . So what are my options.

3. I got my ipod integrated into my navigation screen from a local electronic guru.
The way he did it was to simply run a cable from ipod to a box in the trunk which is visible in the below pictures. Now i can simply turn to the TV option in my head unit and i can play my videos as well audio from my ipod (needless to say that I cannot watch tv now). So can somebody tell me whether i would get better audio this way or should i get the P.I.E adapter from mazdaparts.

Pictures of the box in the trunk:

Circled white wire is the one connecting my ipod:

I don't understand what you don't understand.

I think the questions are quite clear.

did the open / close work before this "guru" attached additional wires to your system?

Uh i'm lost...

I don't get what people are not getting and why is this usually helpful forum is found lacking in providing any plausible answers.

1. I'd assume that it's for a remote control but the US doesn't get the tv adapter so this is just a guess.

2. I haven't had any experience w/ the gps unit.

3. I don't know about quality but I don't think any of the pie adapters will allow you to do video. If you have an older rx-8 you may have to upgrade the firmware of the stereo.

Hope this helps.

i guess my interwebs bugged out, i did not see any of the text you posted.

i dont think sound quality is going to change significantly (in either direction) so if you're happy with it, i'd just stay like that.

What about the the ir interface on gps unit. Do you guys in state have that or not?

Actually my "electronic guru" was telling me that this box in the trunk is from where all tv and fm signal is "dispatched" to headunit. So what you do is simply integrate sound out from ipod into this trunk unit and your hu thinks that audio is coming from tv or fm (depending upon how you integrate it). So if you guys haven't looked into this as a very cheap alternative to pie solution than this might be the time (provided that the sound quality remains the same, the jury on which is still out)
Thanks

if that works go for it.

i took my head unit apart and soldered an audio cable directly to the stereo speaker points on the board. i have a blank cd that i play (so the stereo is doing something but not producing sound.) and then i use my ipod. http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/ its a really cool little hack.

what you're talking about sounds similar, so i bet its fine.

also no, afaik, we dont have the little ir interface.
