Hey guys.
I just transfer to the Bahrain(middle east) and I want to verify some stuffs before I drive around here...

8 owner lives place that temperture reaches 120-130 F
Please answer this question for me.

What kind of oil you guys use?

Did you guys upgrade your radiator or stock radiator is good for that temperture?

Let me know
Thank you

With those temps and I'm guessing low humidity I would guess 20w50 full synthetic would be about the only thing you can use.

What are the temps there at the opposite end of the scale? If it gets cold there you could run 10w40 full synthetic.

For brands its up to you. I know Mobil 1 says specifically not to use their oil in the Renesis. I'm not sure about the rest. I run Redline 10w40 but I'm in Houston.

HAHA, he posted in the GULF sub forum thinking it was for the actual Persian Gulf! That's funny...but anyways 10w40 synthetic should be fine for those conditions.

FYI: if you go synthetic you can't switch back to conventional.

says who?

make sure you use something other then the suggested 5w-20. That won't be a good choice in that kind of heat

I guess only me. I don't know where I heard that from, but that has been my understanding. Maybe I'm wrong...

No, that's my understanding too...doesn't make it fact. My uncle owns a chain of auto parts stores, he's been rebuilding and racing hot rods and every other kind of car under the sun since before I was born. Doesn't qualify him as God but he knows his business. All I know is he told me don't ever put synthetic in the Mazda if I don't want to put it in forever. I don't question . I just obey. :)

But since we're on the topic, I'd love to hear more about it with some reasons backing it up-anyone got any solid info on going back after synthetic?

By the way, I use 5W-20 in the winter (Castrol) and 5W-30 in the summer.

I'm simple minded (typical Aggie engineer)-I had to take chem three times to pass. But in my mind, here's why you shouldn't go back: Synthetic has a more...pure maybe(?)...molecular structure. It lubricates better, like silkier, easier on the car. So if your car gets used to the luxury of the um...better make-up of the synthetic oil...and then you jump back to the conventional that's filled with more contaminants...it's gonna be mad at you. At least that's how I see it.

So...how far off am I? Anyone? I mean, it's like going from Patron to Juarez to me. It's just wrong. (Shudder) But if you never know the glory that is Patron, Juarez still does the job. ;)

FYI, Synthetic oils destroy the Apex seals
as I posted in another thread.
Will try to find that info and post it here

synthetics do not eat up Apex seals in the rx-8... The 8's seals are made up of a different matieral then previous Apex seals found in rx-7's etc. People are afraid to use synthetics in the 8 because of this and because Mazda says to use 5w-20 conventional... There's been tons of rotary rebuilds that prove 5W-20 is too thin protection wise. Plus Royal Purple has a FAQ on their website stating they have done extensive testing proving their synthetic is fine to use in a rotary. Synthetics are fine..

Its on their website. This goes back to the fact that when mobil1 first came out it destroyed seals. Both the seals and the oil have been reformulated multiple times since then. I use Mobil 10W30 and have for +30K miles with no problems.

I'm using Mobil 1 5w30 also right now also, don't think I'll be going back to MRO any time soon :)

I hope it aint eating up my seals. I done about 2,000KM with Mobil1 now.

The O-ring is a different material though right? Prior renesis o-rings would shrink with Synthetic?

This is my understanding anyways.
