I want to know, with the 2009 face lift, what the road racing RX-8s are going to look like (such as the ones from Speedsource). I'm curious to know if Mazdaspeed has a new body kit they will be selling for road-going RX-8s that will look like whatever is raced in Grand-AM. When does that racing season start? Anyone know anything about what the 2009 RX-8 race cars look like? Hopefully, there will still BE RX-8s in the Grand-AM series.

As of right now, I haven't heard of anyone making the switch to the '09 body. And you can probably count SpeedSource out of having a ST program this year.

As for the GT 8's, it's a waiting game since those bodies are carbon composites, don't really see them using anything other than what they running now.

BTW, the test sessions at Daytona are on the 3-5th of Jan...and the Rolex 24 is on the 24-25th of Jan!

Honestly don't think you will see the '09 body style on a race car for some time.

 

i know Downign Atlanta et al have been working up a new nose for the Speedsource etc cars but so far the design hasnt been sen in public. I have not seen any pics either.

 

the rx8 is going to fade from racing unless mazda puts a more powerful engine in there.

we need a 13b with 300hp n/a.

You're right kersh, the ST 8's will never be as competitive as let's say the Cobalts. It's always gonna be an uphill battle, case in point Speedsource once had 7 ST cars now they barley field the one they have left.

 

right. if i was a race team and i was deciding between the cobalt and rx8, it would be a no brainer.

i wouldnt think twice when picking my personal car between the two either. but racing is racing, and the point is to win.

that front looks a little like the current ING kit. with wierd fog light setup. i love the ING kit.... but this fails in my humble opinion. but then... i dont own an 09 and will never own one, so mine doesnt matter haha

 

Well, the fog lights won't be there in a race setup so, no worries there. I don't think there will be any ST 8's running the new body, now as for the GT 8's...who knows, they have all the money and it's not a big thing for them to have new panels made and change them out.
