So today was a pretty busy day. But there were some bright spots with the “8” that I thought I would share.
First was AutoZone. I stopped in to get some tire/wheel cleaner and tire gloss. The clerk behind the desk asked if that was my RX-8 out in the lot. When I said yes, he said something to the effect of “Sweet” and “You’re one lucky dude”. I think so too!
Then in the short walk back to the car in the parking lot, I’m about 15 feet behind this father and son, both above driving age. The son is asking to the dad if he checked out the front on that car (my “8”). He said it was wild. When I put my stuff in the trunk, they were checking it out. We started talking and they asked about the rotary. I told them the displacement, HP and Torque numbers. Then the son asked if he could see inside. I said sure. So I opened up the door and turned to look. He was standing in front of the car. He meant the inside of the hood. So I popped it and took the engine cover off for them to get a peek. They couldn’t believe that “little thing” could produce those kind of numbers. They thanked me an went on their way.
Then, after shopping at Lowe’s, I was taking the long walk back to my car. Some dude circled back to it after dropping off his cart. He was covering his eyes with his hands to look inside and walking all around it.
Well for me, that was an interesting day. I think the car is “way cool”. But I can’t believe some of the reactions. And I’ve only had it for a week. I really thought there would be plenty of these already on the road to have quelled the interest some. Guess not … yet!
Oh yea, and the MPG. My problem is that I’m having so much fun driving the darn thing I can’t even focus on the MPG problem. Is that so wrong? :D
