View Full Version : dealership saying this isn't covered by warranty?
mikeferrell 11-26-2008, 04:55 PM I just had my 8 towed to the dealership, they're saying there is something wrong with my clutch pedal which is making it a pain in the ass to put the car in reverse, also the car wouldn't start....so they're saying 2 coils are bad on the 8.
My question is....my car has 50,780 miles on it.
it's a 2005.
He's stating that none of this is covered because my warranty is over on the car.
I know that they extended the power train to 100,000 miles, but was there ever another extension on bumper to bumper coverage? i tried to search and couldn't find anything...
I'm just kinda pissed right now cuz' it's gonna cost 700$ to fix this....money i'd rather spend else where.

CyberPitz 11-26-2008, 04:57 PM Do yourself a favor, replace the coils yourself, and the clutch pedal may just be the bracket breaking *VERY common for these cars...a little too common*
A search will get you these parts that you can EASILY install yourself for a huge fraction of the cost.
actually the powertrain warranty is until 60k and the engine components are 100k
which is what i was told when i replaced tranny
but still it should be covered
shaunv74 11-26-2008, 05:03 PM And bumper to bumper is 48mo 50K miles. So you're out of bumper to bumper by 500 miles and they want to try and screw you on the clutch pedal bracket?? Tell them to call Mazda North America and see if they will authorize the warranty work. That's total garbage they aren't going to honor warranty on a car that is barely out of bumper to bumper.
tubingchamp 11-26-2008, 05:10 PM Do they know you have a cat delete pipe?
This voids warranty.
Socket7 11-26-2008, 05:23 PM Should be covered under powertrain warranty.
Call MANO and ask them nicely to set this wayward service manager back on the straight and narrow.

Certainly not on your clutch pedal bracket.
04RX8man 11-26-2008, 05:52 PM yeah but the clutch pedal is not "powertrain" it would b covered bumper to bumper..also if it is coils that's not under the extended warranty of 100k either....i'm sorry to say but you prob are not covered for anyting....don't get me wrong i would still try MNAO and try to tell them you're only 500 out and see if they will honor it....however if they don't DO NOT pay for mazda to do it if you are mechanically inclined at all.....coils and clutch pedalbracket are very simple to do and i believe there is DIY for both on here somewhere
mikeferrell 11-26-2008, 05:54 PM I had a cat. converter put on, i couldn't stand the smell of vehicle with no cat.
yeah, i think i'll call mazda and ask them to cover it. all i've ever owned are mazda's and if they don't cover it because i'm 500 miles over that'll be the end of owning mazda's for me...

Good give them a call and let us know how it all comes out.
dannobre 11-26-2008, 09:30 PM I would also report it to the NTSB
...this is a safety defect in the car...and Mazda needs to look after it...before someone has a huge crash because of it
Mine broke with less than 50K miles, and a lot of us have had problems on here...and we are a small % of total 8 owners...
Transam kid 01 11-26-2008, 10:24 PM If you are having problems with your clutch pedal and coils, talk to Charles R. Hill at BHR. He has a clutch pedal reinforcement kit and has very good coils. It wont cost you anywhere remotely near $700 and he will walk you through installation if you need.
nycgps 11-26-2008, 10:49 PM Should be covered under powertrain warranty.

Clutch Bracket is not part of the powertrain warranty.
It sounds stupid but, its not in the warranty booklet :(

Silver06 12-01-2008, 01:09 PM For a description and suggestions for clutch pedal problems, see this thread: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=132912
Note the huge, bold type in post #1 with a contact link to report your problem to the Goverment watchdog (in the USA).
You can repair you own clutch pedal.
Remove pedal assembly, re-weld, replace... Here are pics: http://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php?p=2406137&postcount=260
or,
BHR has a reinforcement service: $175 plus your old clutch pedal. Here: http://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php?p=2474588&postcount=1
This should not be happening!
04RX8man 12-01-2008, 01:37 PM yeah it can b fixed but i would try the dealership first to see what they will do for u then fix whatever else u need done on your own.
Davey's RX-8 12-01-2008, 03:05 PM Not for nothing, but expecting a dealer to offer free service work outside of warranty is umm, shall we see, unrealistic?
