WOW!!! Just got my RX8

Just to start out I really dig this forum.

First a little car background:

My first car was a '84 Chrysler Laser. For a first car it was very cool even though it was an automatic and had tons of mechanical problems. It was a turbo and it talked so it was a real fun car.

My second car was a '89 Trans-am. Again it was a pretty cool car but it was only a 305 and also an automatic. I had no problems with the car in the years I had it other than a broken door lock.

Ok third car was a big step up. I got a '93 RX7. I had to of course have a manual. The car was just insane to drive. I loved that car - it had performance and looks. I did have some major mechanical issues with the car though.

So next car was a '99 Honda Civic HX. I always liked Honda products since I was a teenager and had several Honda dirt-bikes. What the car lacked in power it made up for in reliability. With nearly 200k miles on it it still ran pretty good (and did I beat on that car)

So finally were up to my newest acquisition. I just got a '06 RX8 GT with 20k miles on it. When the RX8 first came out I wasn't sure what I thought about it (being a RX7 owner). Then about a year ago I test drove one. It was an automatic and felt like it was beat on so I wasn't impressed. So when I just found this one and test drove it I was amazed. Though it of course doesn't have the pep and speed as my RX7 the handling and smooth all around feeling of driving it is very exciting.

It did cause some problems in my personal life though. I'm about to get married next month and my bride to be (and her family) don't think it's a very practical car. There is of course more to the story but her and her family thinks I should bring it back. I said there is no way that will happen. So I might not get married now over my RX8.
I hate to say it but right now I love the car more than I love her.

Sorry for the book.

I needed a new engine. So as sad as I was (believe me I wish I still had it) I had to get something else.

No the real issue is finance. The car is paid for but I do have some student loans I have to pay back. So they think I should have got another car for 5k and put the rest towards my loan. I will pay it back but I needed a new car so why not one that brings me lots of joy. I don't know I don't think I'm being selfish.

Well, if a marriage is determined by what car you own, I would say there isn't much there to begin with. Better that it ends now then later.

If that's the case, your RX8 has saved your life. Let them push you around on this and they'd be mopping the floor with you forever.

Congratulations on the car and on the lucky escape.

Well that's what I said. We have other issues besides my finances. Like for instance her telling her parents every little detail of our life together. I do love her but I don't like bossy, pushy people (like her family)

Thanks for letting me vent on here.

Congrats on the car! We could always use some pics!

Good luck with the family, though. They should just mind their own business.

As others have said, if they seriously find objection to what you do with your life and the way you manage it to that point.. you may want to think very carefully about what you're getting into. It's your money and life, not theirs, and even when you get married, you're still in control of your own life.

Give people a chance to start leaning on your decisions and they'll soon walk all over you and wipe their shoes on you.

On-topic.. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the Club (totally need to get the club sticker) :D

And also.. PICS!

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice.

LOL yeah ferg she's really cute and has an amazing body (I always call her my little Ferrari) But with this car I bet I could get a lot of girlies attention.

I'm a really nice guy and treat her very sweetly (and trust me she has put me through a lot over the years) I really deserve a little more fun in my life and this car provides that.

Thanks... Pics to follow.

Wow, I would be pissed off if my fiance was running her mouth to her parents about my debt.

Besides, the interest rate on student loans are soooo low that's it's almost like a free loan. Student loans should always be the last to be paid off just because of that reason.

Congrats on the car! I say use the RX8 as a tool and pick up a new girl who understands and respects your decisions in life. We only live once......as far as we can prove!

Sorry for the book.
So why waste your life and get married for. That is stupid that they are fighting over the RX8... If it were me...I'd tell everyone where to go...

Life is about living and not being miserable... Seems like things aren't meant to be with you and her.

As long as you arn't borrowing any money from them, I don't see what the issue is. Of course, there are always those people that have to pass judgement on others and tell them what to do.

I once met up with some family that I hadn't seen in a while, and my Aunt was showing off her new Mustang GT, which she was very proud of. I found out later that she was telling people that my RX-8 was 'too much car' for me. I can afford it myself, so I don't see what the issue was. Oh, and if I have 'too much car', what the hell does a high-school teacher need a V8 for?

Sorry for the personal story... just saying I understand what you are going through.

If it comes down to it, keep the car, ditch the soon-to-be in-laws.

Yeah I thought about posting a pic of her and the car and make a poll which is hotter... LOL.
Hey there's an idea for a web-site "which is hotter - my car or my woman" Ok I came up with it first.

I'm so mad about this. They are focusing on me and my issue but of course don't recognize any of their daughters issues. Plus I didn't tell them not to plunk so much money into this wedding when they have their own financial issues.

Anyway I really appreciate everyones help. I think I'm going to like it here.

Well here it is, my pride and joy...

^+1 I wasted 6 years of my life because of that. If you don't have any kids with her yet then run for the hills!

Not to mention there are millions of hot women in the world.....chances are you will find one that matches your personality better than her.

Love the interior, its nice and clean too. I'm *almost* jealous of the two tone leather :p

I'd tell her parents to lay the f*ck off, but that's just me. Plenty of fish in the sea. I'd be by myself then with someone who'll eventually make life miserable.

It's not just lust, we have lots of things in common.
One of the main differences is that her family is very conservative and practical with money. My family is more spend thrift and like to live for today. Not that I'm totally irresponsible but like I told her I'm a guy and I need to have a fun car. I also told her I work hard everyday and the car makes me in a better mood when I get to work and happy when I leave work. Simply put it gives me enjoyment in a monotonous work a day life.
