this is probably a dumb question, and as much as i deal w/ ps i should know this, but how on earth you get a decent quality pic at 20k??? i've got it saved as a jpg, lowest quality, well under the pixel requirement, and it's still over 20k. did i take it at too high of a setting to begin with? i've never sized something down this far.

 

make sure it's 72 dpi

size of the file matters the most.

however type of photo determines the format. An image with only a few colors (line drawings and things without gradients) can be extremely large and only a few k in size when saved as a gif.

The photo in my sig right now is 8k. 217px × 76px

 

you can have a pretty crisp sig pic within 20K. Just don't make it 500x200 or w/e outrageously large size the max is. I f***in hate scrolling down a thread and having huge pics of peoples cars every other post. So f'in annoying

I just opened mine in MS paint and resized it to 35%, it was a big pic

 

yeah i know some cameras you need to resize on the camera so that can b resized donw to where u need to be to post online or send in email etc

 

In photoshop if you go to "Save for Web" you have a few options to get it down to size. If you save it as a jpeg you can adjust the "Quality" bar along with the other options and see the file size at the bottom left of the window.
