Auto to Manual

Wondering if anyones ever attempted to swap an auto tranny with a manual and all the extras that youd need to change. just wondering about what it would cost and what parts would have to be swapped.

I'll be honest: it's going to cost you quite a bit of $$$. With the price of cars these days, might be better to just sell yours and buy a used M/T.

With that said, Rotary Ressurection has done the swap. Use the search tool towards the top right and you'll find his thread.

I'll give you some advice when using the search function:

- use the drop down to search thread title only
- then click 'show results as threads'

Otherwise you'll get a million random posts that won't help you out much

Beauge, I did read your posts, that's why it was 'just a hint of sarcasm', and I provided you with the link as well.... (apparently at the same time as the mighty Jedi).

As you know, the search feature sucks, but it is necessary to go through the process. I get miffed because every time I search for something, there are like 50 threads on every topic, with only one or two that contain useful info...

even if you were able to swap from AT to MT without it costing more then the car is worth, I'm not sure if it would add value to the car. As a prospective buyer, I'd rather get a used 8 that was mt from the get go rather then a conversion.

I wouldn't buy a car thats been swapped from AT to MT unless it was very very special.

im not really looking at resale afterwards. im not interested at selling it. im reading through the post and gonna look around at the cost of each option. my rx8 is parked for the winter and wont be out for another 6 months, so ive got time to look around at options.

If I was in your shoes, and I was looking to spend about the same amount of time and money on a 2007, I would go for a well thought-out forced induction option. Especially on an auto.

ive read a few things about FI on an auto and from what i recall the tranny doesnt take to well to the extra power?

also lookin at autotrader right now theres an 07 almost exact same as mine manual, for 5k less then what i paid

http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...3&adid=6860213

so i might give him a call on a straight trade but my experience with him previously was that he isnt the friendly type to even consider it

Auto Transmission can take a lot of abuse. Phil's 8 has a Supercharged 8 and as far I know, the transmission seems to be holding up well. (felt SOLID when I drove his car a few months ago)

i once asked the techs at MAZDA and they said it'd be roughly $15k in parts without Labor, and now i see Used 04 6spd MT for like 12K better off having 2 rx8s then one! BTW. better to do three rotor if ur going to WAS1TE MONEY.

i can do the swap myself, so labor costs arent an issue. and unless RR wants to fly up here to northern ontario, the only helped id get is through messaging. gonna look around at options(sell/buy, parts car, buying parts seperatly)
