I HATE WINTER cruzdreamer 12-08-2003, 04:44 PM No please no!! I don't want the white stuff....my husband won't let me get winter tires!! I guess he does not care if i am in a ditch somewhere!! He says...."you wanted this car"! He does not want to put out the cash and feels I really don't need them! Genom 12-08-2003, 04:54 PM cruz, smakc your husband a couple times, tell him not to be an idiot, of course you need snow tires. This is a sports car. it has sprt tires on it now. Your going to kill yourself if you dont get snow tires. SERIOSLY. As everybody who has driven the car in the snow with and without them has posted already! Anyway, save yourself the agravation and head on down to Miami. Last night was all of 56. It *might* get down to the high 40's, but thats about nit, and lasts all of a week if that long. RX_Paranoid 12-08-2003, 05:32 PM Snow? what is this snow you speak of? Only thing frozen in california are our sherbets and our chances of climbing out of this deficit. I'm going to go put on some long sleeve shirts now, temperatures have dropped to mid 60s here and I dont know if i'm going to make it. (J/P, please dont kill me) Smoker 12-08-2003, 05:36 PM cruz, smakc your husband a couple times, tell him not to be an idiot, of course you need snow tires. This is a sports car. it has sprt tires on it now. Your going to kill yourself if you dont get snow tires. SERIOSLY. As everybody who has driven the car in the snow with and without them has posted already! I second that. Smack your husband several more times. Alrite here's what you should do. Tell him that is is a proven FACT that TIRES that came with your car is REALLY dangerous on Snow (again, the TIRES, not the car) and it is a proven FACT that with good winter tires the car is really safe car in the winter. If you can't get the winter tires, you will be forced not be able to drive the car in the Winter which in term will turn out to be a BAD waste of money. The fact of the matter is, getting winter tires for this car is just part of maintaining this car, just like oil change, fuel, insurance cost and other maintance cost. Oh well, if you really had to, shread a few tears and accused him of putting a price tag on your safety when he knows you will be safer out there with the proper tires on. HAHAHHA :D I think that for sure will do it. Aratinga 12-08-2003, 05:51 PM Cruzdreamer -- Geez, I hate to say it, but.... Why do you have to ask your husband for money for something as essential to your safety as snow tires??? You own a not-inexpensive sportscar -- you're obviously not on a budget. So he expects you to either wreck your car or stay at home when there's snow on the ground? Get to the tire store and buy your own tires, and don't let him control you like this. This sort of thing burns me up. If you don't have an outside-the-home job (I know you already have a full-time job caring for your son) that doesn't mean he gets to play God with the household budget! Grrrr... Let him pay for someone to care for your son for a few days if he dares to question what you're worth. Of course, there's always the other solution. No snow tires = no sex. That'll get his attention. Okay, rant off now. Sorry guys! I like men. Really. I do. Honest.:D Jhouse 12-08-2003, 05:57 PM i'm a guy and i still agree, not buying your wife snow tires is just stupid. I just make sure my wife doesn't drive the car when it's shitty outside(she drives the front wheel drive prelude) I would buy her tires but considering she has a second car i don't bother. CRUZ; just go open a tires store account and let your husband know who boss is. This was a fun one. Texas 8 12-08-2003, 07:42 PM I agree, you're just asking trouble with the stock tires. Especially in Chicago. C'mon Mr. Cruzdreamer get her some tires:-) Racer X-8 12-08-2003, 10:59 PM I'll second that emotion. Tell us he was just kidding, right? Just go buy the tires thru www.tirerack.com , have them drop-shipped to a local tire shop, then limp your car over there to have them put on when they call you. Just do it...tonight...NOW. Do it, or don't drive when it's snowing. Please. And, yeah, about that snow - YUK! Winter Wonder Land - a nice place to visit, BUT...nah! Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & the snowblower. YUK! NASTY! COLD!!! WET!!! DIRTY!!!(after a day or 2 & it has the audacity to not melt) rx8daniel 12-09-2003, 12:12 AM or cruz - buy my Subaru XT-6. I'm going to sell it on autotrader.com - I need a ride to IL later this month and could drop it off! it's full time AWD. But FWIW, an AWD really needs winter tires too. We drove through a snow storm last Dec from MD to IL in our FWD van on allseasons. I have a set of winter tires coming tomorrow for it - not going to chance that havoc again! mamccubbin 12-09-2003, 12:26 AM Good god, while I agree Cruz should get some snowtires, let's not crucify her husband. Just send him for a drive in the snow. Ike 12-09-2003, 02:56 AM I want snow damnit!!!! cruzdreamer 12-09-2003, 08:45 AM I agree with you all!!! I think one trip in the darn snow will do it, huh!!! I may need to go get some tires with my credit card(we have not used credit cards all year) and get my dang tires. I have a 4 year old son who rides with me and I will be damned if I have to risk our lives in the snow cuz he's being ridiculous about this! He's just mad that we got this car...I think he felt so pressured by me and my obsession with this car and just gave in to it and now he's just being bratty about it!! I will look into it this week!! I will keep you all posted...Thanks!!!! Argh! Racer X-8 12-09-2003, 12:51 PM Not to belabor the point, but Tirerack.com is really quick & you'll get what you want, not what your local store might have on hand that might or might not be ok. And, you can buy them right now, online, at home, with your credit card. ;) Hey Ike, is that you last year, losing it in a turn? :p Ike 12-09-2003, 12:56 PM Originally posted by Racer X-8 Not to belabor the point, but Tirerack.com is really quick & you'll get what you want, not what your local store might have on hand that might or might not be ok. I'm already thinking he's a jackass. He called around.....many don't have the stock......a few suggested rims too....argh...more $$. Figured it would cost near $1000. He's not happy but will get me tires....says that is my Xmas present, anniversary present and birthday present. OH well, fine with me! We don't have the best relationship.....actually currently going to marriage counseling...so.....I am lucky I got this car guys! He's not really that bad of a guy.....just did not want to buy this car in the first place since I had a 2 year old car already and this is twice the price and now it's costing us another grand!! Remember I am a stay at home Mom and I did not really need this car. He says he's never seen a woman love & obsess over a car like this. I said well, now you have. He does not understand at all but I do understand his side too(about the car, not the tires). Dunlops $164 a tire....sound good?? If you're going to spend that much get Nokians, if you want to save some money and get some great winter tires check these out. http://www.greendiamondtire.com/ The green diamond tires have gotten great reviews and I have yet to hear anything bad other than the road noise is a little loud (to be expected from winter tires). Though last I heard they may be out of all the 16" tires winter tires, though even some of their all season are better in winter conditions than other higher priced snow tires. Take a look at the MDTs for all under the all season section. Overall most of the tirerack snow tires are not that great, you might also want to check out Doscount Tire Direct. Lastly, getting a dedicated set of wheels for the snow tires is highly advised. mamccubbin 12-09-2003, 06:32 PM I have the Dunlop M3s here in Wisconsin and love them. They've handled the snow and ice well, but also do fairlyl well in the dry. Racer X-8 12-09-2003, 06:36 PM Yous guys need to give Wendy more info here. C'mon guys! Of course, I didn't buy snow tires or wheels, so I personally don't have a clue. I do agree with Ike (as much as I hate to admit :p ) about wheels. Winter treads need to be mounted & dismounted every year, at least once. With wheels, you can save a lot of money by getting your husband to do it. Quick-on, quick-off. :D I know you definitely don't want a set of sensors to go with them. That'll cost a chunk of change more. Guys, how do you do without the TPS sender units? Just live with the light for the whole winter? It'll beep too, won't it? C'mon dudes! Time to swamp Wendy with numbers & stuff... And good luck with your husband. I know where he's coming from & you do too. Work it out! Thank him real good now, y'heah?! cruzdreamer 12-10-2003, 03:07 PM Thanks RacerX8......I do need some numbers. Hubby called around just for tires not wheels...I know i could not convince him to get wheels too. All are out of stock but a couple can get some in 2 days if needed. I reminded my hubby about the $500 debit card......he seemed better about it but said we will wait till the card comes....supposedly due here any day now! Dunlops seem to be the best price.....I just want to get through 3 months of winter so nothing expensive. Just tires are ok to get right? I am sure he asked for 18" since I have a GT pkg. Thanks gang! moRotorMotor 12-10-2003, 03:32 PM May I suggest installing those winter tires on steels rims (if possible with 18 inches :( ) so as to not damaging those stockers with salt and what have you? got 8 12-10-2003, 10:13 PM I dont think I can wait for you Ike. she is still in the sac but almost waking up. good luck with the tire search Wendy. How have you had snow and ice in Madison? Racer X-8 12-10-2003, 10:16 PM Poor thing...:( got 8 12-10-2003, 10:21 PM she will be allright, where she is sleeping right now will be a brand new 16'x20' home for her by next week. I am going to visit her ofen. Ike 12-10-2003, 10:31 PM I just talked to my brother in Morristown, NJ and I guess he had a little problem while plowing the driveway... He has a pretty steep uphill drive and so he plowed the top and then pulled his and his wifes car one to top of the slope and parker them (they were parked on the street overnight since they couldn't get down the drive into the garage). So then he finishes off the rest of the driveway and gets in his car to pull it into his garage. Let just say his added weight and the jolt of him jumping got the ball rolling... His car rolled down the driveway and was heading right into the woods where there is an even steeper dropoff. He was able to maneuver the car enough to hit part of his bumper on a tree at the end of the drive in order to keep himself from plumeting into the woods. It's a brand new audi and he hit a bull mastiff the first weekend he had it, and now this... I say the car is cursed. He also ignored my warning about the tires on the car and procrastinated about getting all seasons or winter tires, I bet that's the last time he does that! mamccubbin 12-11-2003, 02:54 AM Originally posted by IkeWRX How have you had snow and ice in Madison? Well, it all has to do with water and what happens to it when it gets below 32 degrees. Alright, that was my smart-ass answer. We had a few little storms come through here, and my street gets plowed pretty late, if at all. We got several inches today and the tires performed great once again. When I get to work I have a little hill to tackle from a dead stop. I made it with no problems. matt 12-11-2003, 07:59 AM 1 matt 12-11-2003, 07:59 AM 2 cruzdreamer 12-11-2003, 08:56 AM Matt...did you take those pics?
