Thinking of Trading My Porsche Cayman for a RX-8

1st timer here .Went to my local dealer yesterday to see what they could do on a new 2009 R-3 in Black .I think its the ushual story here in Seattle area they try and steal your trade . I have a 2007 cayman 2.7 with 24K miles Loaded and 15K in mods has almost 300 HP lowered and they offer me only 36K .Hope I can sell it Private Party and join the RX-8 Party .I traded my 04 RX-8 in on the porsche but need a little Money at the moment .Any Ideas? Love the new R-3

if you want the 8 and want to get a good value on your cayman, sell privately. You will never get money back on your mods, and in some cases it will lower the value at dealerships etc.

Buy a second hand 8 , slap a turbo on it and you are back up to the performance of the Porsche ,with money in your pocket and a better looking car to boot - simple !

I'm not convinced he was a previous owner or interested in another RX8. The sense I get is he's seeing if someone here might like to buy his Cayman.

But if I were going to get an RX8 now, I wouldn't get a used one. I really like the 2009, the upgrades, and the way they look. In addition, I haven't seen a single 2009 RX8 on the road so I'm sure you can get a huge discount.

I'm curious, can anyone tell us what a maximum discount on a 2009 R3 might be? $8000 off MSRP?

Yeah, this is by far more of a FS thread than a WTB.

I don't think it belongs in the RX-8 discussion forum.

Potentiated

FYI,I Assure you I had a 2004 Black On black Touring package that Was one of the VERY first made and shipped when it came out that I ordered about 1 year before they were even available sir. and simply loved the car ,I might be Partial to owning Mazda's as I am an Ex -8 Year Employee so I did not post to try and sell my cayman here but simply wanted some Ideas other then getting ripped at the Dealer.Brettus Gave me a GREAT Idea buying a used RX-8 and slapping a turbo on it !! would like to put a Borla Exhaust on as well .Also imput1234 Is exactly correct they Are giving me ZERO for the 15K in mods and Because I have done a Flash, Plenum Upgrade, and Remus Exhaust and some dealers are really frowning on that even though they are Porsche Products and do not void warrenty .Any one reccomend a Tuner in the Seattle Area? Melon Mazda in tacoma Wa has an 04 (Yellow) wit 20K with Nav and touring package that I could get for 18K or less .The R-3 is what caught my eye though but (Potentiated) you must be kidding on the 8K off right? I called my friends at mazda (irvine Corporate) and there is LESS then 3 k Total profit and NO incentives on the 09 except a special lease ..The Dealer(Melon mazda) wants Sticker Plus 3K !! what a Joke as there are only 2 R-3's in the State of WA and they have the Black one I want .Got me by the ***** Aye..Thanks for the Ideas guys the used one with a turbo is looking better now !!! I want to mod mine to death!!! so I will need your help Thanks

I've always dreamed of getting a Cayman (but S) someday after the 8...you want the other way after owning both Can you give some insight on the ownership of both? The driving of each relative to the other?

As far as the R3, aside from the idea of owning something very uniqe and new, with a few nice upgrades built-in, I'd wager the 04-08 w/some mods will easily outhandle the R3 at a fraction of the outthedoor $ for the R3.

Good luck with whatever you get!

Given the state of the economy and the fact that salesman probably need a sale more than you need a new car, I'm surprised they are not willing to budge at all on the R3s. I was doing a little checking myself and $1000 below sticker was the best I could get. I won't even think about buying one unless it's at invoice or below.

If I end up looking into the 370z next spring, I'm sure I'll run into the same thing.

I havn't seen a single 09 on the roads either. Though I do see one daily....

Its sitting outside Weisleder Mazda on the sidewalk out by the road, hasn't really moved all but 20 feet.

My local dealer has 1 '09 and I swear the thing has not moved an inch in the couple of months it's been there. I drive past the place pretty much every day too.

And as for the r3 I was considering, I didn't mention that the dealer, outside of not negotiating on the price much, also refused to let me test drive it. Tried to make it sound like there were people lined up waiting to buy this car. Maybe I'll go back in a few months and try again. I guarantee you the car will still be sitting there.

Well I don't know if it got sold or moved, I drove by today and it was gone. At least not where it was anyway. But then again the MX5 that they had sitting behind the 09 8 was also gone. So i doubt they sold it. Just probably realised that the kid driving the 04 8 that drives by 6 times a week if not more is having just as much fun in the 04. But i do wanna go there and test drive the 09 8 haha. Finally put a few miles on it. Since it probably has 10 miles on it, and rust on the rotors 4 inches thick.

Anyway keep the porshe.

There's only one type of Porsche that's for real men, and it's called 911 The Cayman is nice, but it's just another copy of the real thing imo. I wouldn't trade my 2004 RX-8 for one (except to pocket the money and buy a new one).

I would

If all else fails you could sell it and buy 3 used 2004 RX8s
