I always wear goggles. I always wear a respirator. I always work with metal, and I'm always safe with my power tools, especially my angle grinder which is probably the most dangerous tool I own.
But tonight I was working with wood, and I didn't really expect much danger. I wore my safety equipment nonetheless however. After twenty minutes of grinding with a cut off wheel, the sawdust was getting annoying. I had to wipe it off every five seconds. The wheel showed no wear so I stupidly took the goddamn goggles off.
Not five seconds into grinding, the wheel exploded, sending shrapnel right at my eye. It bled like hell and I've been icing it for ten minutes. Pic:

It hit a centimeter away from my eye and stuck there. Had it been one centimeter to the left, it would have obliterated my eye.
I can't get over how lucky I am to still have my right eye. Please, anyone who works with powertools, learn from this, and keep the goddamn goggles on.
