View Full Version : State Trooper
mmmdowning 12-05-2003, 07:13 AM Yesterday going home from work, a State Trooper had a car pulled over and was giving a ticket. The traffic slows to a craw to observe. Well as I got closer the trooper was staring at the car. My heart started to beat out of my chest and becoming very nerves. They kinda have that affect. Fear of a ticket. Well, when I got even closer he nodded his head and gave me a thumbs up. Wow what a shock, I then started laughing at myself.
Just thought you guys and gals would enjoy the experiance.:D :D

You'd be surprised how many peace officers are into cars. Just because they have to police dumbasses and good people that do dumbass things every now and then, doesn't make them the tyrants that a few of them have given the entire force a reputation of.
the last time i encountered a state trooper, he pulled me over and gave me a DUI for blowing a .105 (legal limit is .08) along with 3 other tickets...thanks for reminding me about how much i hate state troopers
jtimbck2 12-05-2003, 01:05 PM Not trying to start a flame war, but I have absolutely no sympathy for you. It isn't the state trooper's fault you were drinking and driving.

not trying to start a flame war either but frankly i wasn't asking for your sympathy...;)
EDIT: i know that sounds a bit rough but consider the fact that to get me to a .105 BAC for my weight is approx. 2 beers an hour which is what i had...and i'm not going to go into detail since i really don't care anymore but the State Trooper was a complete ass even though i was extremely cooperative and polite and that he had no right to pull me over other than the fact that i was a younger racially diverse person drivng a sports car
Rx-Appreci-8 12-05-2003, 01:21 PM My experience is that policemen absolutely L-O-V-E nice cars. Heck, fast cars ARE their business.
Yesterday, a Texas state trooper coming out of a convenience store offered to swap cars with me.
Going along with his joke I just laughed and replied that he "gets" to go a lot faster in his car than I get to go in mine.

How long did it take you to get your license back?
zoomalot 12-05-2003, 01:36 PM Like speed limits, DWI/DUI laws are not so much for the purpose of traffic safety, but for raising revenue.

made an edit above since i felt i was overly rude with my post...
anyways, i still don't have my license back...for a first time offender with such a low blood alcohol level as mine, i get it suspended for 3 months, but i can get a JDP to be able to drive to and from work for the second 2 months...fees vary by district but it costs around $2000+ not to mention the hassle in having to go to court multiple times and having to take driving classes...
so in essence, the entire process is a bitch...if you must drive after drinking, drink plenty of water an hour before leaving the place...not that i condone drinking and driving but i know most ppl aren't such sticklers and like to have fun once and i while whether it be at someone's bday party, barbecue, sunday football games, sporting events, clubs, etc...

Wow! I'd hate to be separated from my RX-8 for three months.
I'm impressed that you edited your email because you felt it might be taken as rude. I hope you get back driving your 8 soon.
Cwsmith 12-05-2003, 01:57 PM Lucky you....In a way. Here in Ontario if you get your 1st DUI, you lose your license for 1 year then have a manditory 1 year with an ignition interlock. and gets alot worse on your 2nd DUI.
Check here http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/impaired/breaklaw/breaklaw.htm#consequences
Note: Not that I know from personal experience just got curious and looked it up.

OMG!!!...I am soooo biting my tongue on that one. I'm trying not to bring out statistics about how many INNOCENT people are killed every day becuase of irresponsible sob's that drink and drive. I'm trying not be bring out how many families are destroyed because of people who are to 'proud' to call a cab, or feel, "I've only had 1 drink, I can drive fine as usual".
Wiggy, where ae you. You know what happens when I get started...lol...Stop me, before it's too late......
Follow the pilot's rule - keep 8 hours between the bottle and the throttle, "just 1 drink" notwithstanding.
i can sense that this one is gonna end up salty so here are my last comments...
iwantmyrx8 you're absolutely right...far too many people die from drunk drivers a year...i also agree that zoomalot's opinion is not entirely correct...DUI's are there to protect lives...in fact, they make it so incredibly expensive and time consuming to go through that it makes you think twice about drinking and walking...
at least that's what i have to do now...when i do go out and have a few drinks, i make sure to stop drinking an hour before i leave and i drink plenty of water, which consequently costs MORE than a beer! i can't take a cab since i live in the suburbs and i party in the city...if i really need to, i sleep over at a friends...if worse comes to worse, i park at a gas station and sleep in the car...well point is, it was a lesson well learned but i'm not about to stop going out because of it...every nightspot has a bar and there's a reason for it, people like to drink...how well you handle yourself is another issue
carnut 12-05-2003, 05:50 PM I think you'll find your friends more than willing to give you a lift if you're not up to driving, and they'll respect you for knowing when that's the case. I can't hold alcohol well at all, so for me, it's always been simpler not to drink, period. I'm always available as a designated driver for my friends. BRx8, I'm glad there was not an accident and there were no injuries. Car and Driver (I think that was the one) had an article years ago where they gave their writers measured amounts of alcohol and then tested their driving skills as they got increasingly drunk. The most interesting comment all of them made after they sobered up was that they were very confident their driving skills were still unimpaired when the testing showed how affected they were. I learned a lot from that piece.
-=Zeqs=- 12-05-2003, 08:39 PM BxR8...I'm glad you are looking at things maturely given the circumstances. A lot of people I know would just blame the law, courts, and police officers without thinking about what they contributed to the situation. I'm glad you aren't completely spiteful about the law, just the way the troopers handled the situation. Being a light-weight myself and a non-drinker, I understand how even one drink an hour prior to driving can throw my whole blood-alcohol levels out of whack.

I was sort of pulled over the other night. I had just pulled in to my parking spot on the street and all the sudden I see some lights go one... I'm getting out of my car at this point and I didn't know what to do. Conisdering the times I've been pulled over I've been in my car. I swear I wa sready to assume the position and have the cop shake me down for having a modded import. Fist things out of his mouth... I love your car, what year is it and what do you have done. And here I had heard all these stories about WRX guys getting harrrassed by the cops for various reasons, so I was in shock.
He tells me it's the nicest WRX he's even seen and he's going to look into getting one tomorrow. I tell him what mods give the biggest gains and about some of the WRX forums I visit and he says he'll check them out and gives me the old drive safe line and goes on his way. Nice to know they're not all rednecks that were picked on in school and have an inferiority complex.
Ike
Rx-Appreci-8 12-05-2003, 10:24 PM Way to go, Ike! Since you park on the street it can be a real bonus getting to know the local police who patrol your area especially if they associate you, your car and your parking spot.
For the low, low price of NEVER speeding near your home you end up with something potentially more valuable than LoJack.
SDFLY 12-05-2003, 11:08 PM BxR8,
You sound sincere and I hope you did indeed learn a valuable lesson, it's just not worth it. All I will say is that I lost my only sibling a couple of years ago to a jack#ss (who's just now getting out of prison for manslaughter) who thought he could drink and drive....it was the second time he had killed another motorist!
-=Zeqs=- 12-06-2003, 04:04 AM Second time he killed another motorist?! Please tell me the bastard didn't kill the first motorist by driving drunk as well...
rxeightr 12-06-2003, 07:04 AM SDFLY,
Sorry to hear about your loss, and I'm surprised the killer only had to serve a couple of years for his 2nd offense.
Kind of reminds me of the attorney on the HBO series OZ, who did a similar thing to get into prison. His life sure changed (for the worse) during his stay in prison.
If you want to drink, stay at home. That's my preference.
zoomzooomp5 12-06-2003, 03:05 PM Most cops I ran into are pretty cool. One time I was doing 90+ on the freeway and I blew right by a highway patrol car. He was infront of a Semi truck. Didn't even see him until it was to late. As I pass him I could see the surprise look on his face. Right then I knew I was in big trouble. Before he even turn on his light, I just slow down and pull over. Hell he didn't even had to turn it on. As he approach my car I was very scare. I was afraid he was going to throw me in jail. He aske me "Why was I going so fast and that he was doing 70mph and I just blew right pass him?" I gave him an honest anwere. "Officer I was in a hurry to pick up my landry befor they close." He smile and said"I'm going to let u of with a warning this time and I put u down on my record so do speed anymore." So I'm like "Yes Sir! no more speeding. An that was my latest good encounter with the highway patrol.
