View Full Version : valet attendant flooding
Was just curious if anyone here got their rotary car flooded by a valet attendant before? I was justing thinking like if i go to a restaurant for dinner and it's a cold night, the attendant stalls the car and it floods ... and since the dealership might be closed for the night, I would have to get it towed to my house.
TNRED8 12-05-2003, 04:58 AM I would never let a valet touch my car.

I've valet parked my car atleast a dozen times and never had it flooded. I do sit there and write down the mileage and make sure they see me do it though... I got my windows tinted and they took it for a 5 mile "test" drive...
Red Devil 12-05-2003, 09:39 AM I would insist on parking my own car, as opposed to letting a valet touch it.
Winning_BlueRX8 12-05-2003, 01:38 PM had my navigation system repaired and they tested it for 11 miles. I could have done that myself...all I wanted them to do was have the damn thing power on.
Elara 12-05-2003, 04:22 PM I was worried about this last week when we stayed at a hotel where the only choice was valet. But no problem, and they pulled it around twice for us, turning it off each time before I could ask them not to (they were, however, confused and wanted to know what the heck kind of car we were driving).
Toadman 12-05-2003, 04:33 PM Imho, true car enthusiasts never valet their cars or entrust their keys to a minimum-wage stranger(Ferris Bueller, anyone?). Affluent folk who view a car as merely an appliance or status symbol don't care. It's worth the walk from the lot and you can position it to prevent door dings and ensure the alarm is set/doors locked. Maybe a high-maint. wife/gf wouldn't understand, but so what? Drop her off at the lobby then go park/secure it yourself. After the event, it's much sexier to escort your date to the passenger seat at the lobby yourself anyways, being a "take-charge" kinda guy.
I guess I'm just too practical. :D
The problem is, there are places where it's valet only and it's almost impossible to find a parking spot on the street. Even if you find a spot on the street you'll have to keep moving it cause it would probably a one hour meter max. :(
I don' t think there that many valet attendants that will take you rcar for a joy ride. They are too busy, parking cars... but i'm sure there will be some that messes with you car. I"m more concerned how they will not warm up the car and accidently stall the car. Just makes me nervous.

Unfortunately, you don't always have this option. There was NOWHERE for us to park aside from the hotel's garage. They wouldn't let us park it ourselves. Believe me, I don't like letting the car out of my sight, but my other choice was to park it on the street 5 blocks away in a rather seedy section of town. No thanks. At least it was under security lights and cameras in the garage. And I don't have any dents, thank god.

ok how about letting them park it but you sit in the passenger seat and watch? :)
8_wannabe 12-07-2003, 05:13 PM How about I park it, and they can sit in the right seat and watch. ;-)
jballas 12-08-2003, 04:33 PM didn't you guys get the grey valet key that is suppose to kill the car if it is driven for more than 10 min. yes i realize a lot can be done in 10 min but at least its limited.

wow, that's new to me, I mean, nobody told me that the grey key allows operation for 10 minutes only. Actually, I think that can be dangerous if the valet driver doesn't expect it.
What do the others think?

Genom 12-08-2003, 05:03 PM The valet key only opens the doors and turns the engine, but doesnt open the glove box, trunk or rear cargo bay. So lock thema ll up, disable the trunk release buttong from your glvoe box and your privates are sorta safe.
I have not had to let someone park my car yet, insisiting every time I do it myself. Those SoBe morons always look at me funny cause I wanna park my own damn car, but as soon as they spend 30G on a car, if they have no prob with me driving it for a while, i'll elt them drive mine.
Chrisbert 12-09-2003, 09:59 PM OK, i'm gonna have to test the grey key theory. Seems BS to me.

this is what someone discovered trying to code their keys as per Takahashi's instructions (see the thread in my section for the full story)
I hate leaving the car to someone, always write the mileage and give a reminder that it doenst need to be off!
