Hey guys, tomorrow night I am ordering my mazda rx8.
Today i'm not very happy, for 1 reason, i'm absolutely torn between the Titanium gray and the brilliant black.
I just got back from the dealership and I parked the black right next to the gray, but the gray had appearance/spoiler and black was just straight.

Although when i purchase, i will be getting (GT package, appearance, rotary, tints, spoiler).

I CANNOT choose, i'm absolutely torn between the two colors.

Although I know that the black will be the 2 tone red interior and the gray will not be a 2 tone (unless black/gray).

I've seen billions of pictures of these 2 colors, but i have not seen many black ones (hooked up appearance wise).

I know black is hard to keep clean and the gray is too but NOT AS MUCH!

Deadline is tomorrow. I"m purchasing it tomorrow night. Although by then i MUST come to a decision.

If you are an owner of either of the 2 colors with the appearances i listed above PLEASE show a picture and or tell me why you purchased that color.

I know its my personal decision, but honestly i cannot decide, i'm stressing very much and have decided to come to you guys for this decision.
PLEASE POST YOUR RX8 (if it meets either of these specs, doesn't have to be Grand Tour.) AND TELL ME WHY!!!

Hope to hear from you soon, and thanks in advance.
A bit about me:
I'm 17 and like to be seen :) keep that in mind as well.
I'm a buisness man (so i got that buisness look... gotta keep it clean).
Tanned skin.

I leave this decision in YOUR hands. PLEASE HELP Rx8 CLUB!

I like the titanium gray and the brillian black...If I were you I would get black /w red and black interior. I always like darker colors for some reasons...:)

That's very funny how the choice of the color is pertubating. I'm the same but i torn between enven more color titanium, black, green and red. Titanium and black are very nice but i an other way i don't want to see the same car at every corner.

good luck but i can't help you

17 and already a business man? well anyways... black or titanium gray huh? Well personally I bought the titanium, the black is just too hard to keep clean, however I do have this obsession with constantly cleaning my titanium. Honeslty, both your choices have the same appeal. Both colors look professional, and very classy. Scratches can be more noticible on black...etc.. this definitely is a hard decision, guess you'll just have to go with your personal favorite... don't stress so much, both colors are great. If you wanna stand out, look around you. If your city has lots of tit gray rx-8's then buy a black on, and likewise... happy choosing, and good luck!

A lot of people have the gray. The black with red is more unique, and better looking. I originally was going to get gray - until I discovered that many others were getting it. If you don't mind cleaning it more often, get the black.

I was at the dealership ready to buy it but then looking at the black side view i saw like circular scratches n shit.. it sorta made me move away, but NOTHING compares to its interior :).

This car looks sooo good in any color!!!!!

I too am having this problem of which color. Tommorrow I go and pick. It started as the Titanium gray with black/chap, now I am stuck on the RED with black/chap interior. It has been hard to find this combo fully loaded.

Most people think its a sports car and should be red, and I always wanted a red vette while growing up. When I first talked to my insurance guy, and told him the color was the tit gray, he said oh yea, the color like wet pavement at night! It did get me thinking about night time visibility and that it seems many of the 8's that getting wrecked are silver which is harder to see.

Flip a coin!!!!!!

Damnit you guys are no help!! LOL!

YOU HAVE TO TELL ME WHICH ONE!! and why!

Also, i mean considering my age, i'm going to have a few restrictions on my brand new car for the first month(s), such as no night time driving (real late) and no takeing this baby to dangerous places :)

Thats why i was thinking black, because I THINK it looks best in day light... do you?

Keep posting (AND TELL ME WHICH ONE! 30k decision, in your hands!)

Monte, I would pick the Tit. over the black in a heartbeat. Black is beautifu when clean but very hard to keep it that way.

But don't ask me to pick between the red and tit that fast!

I had to choose from those exact colors....I ended up with black. Mainly because I never owned a black car before(i've owned 2 gray FC's) and though I haven't seen many RX8's on the road, the many I've seen were either gray or silver.

I still want a blue one. Maybe next year I'll get one for the wife. or me...hahaha

I had to choose between Black, Titanium, and Yellow many months ago. At first I was all over the Titanium. I thought it was a very nice color, and I thought black might not show off the body lines quite enough. The Titanium shows them off a bit more (IMO) and I thought Yellow would be too funky.

Then, I saw a picture of a Yellow one. I fell in love, and ordered it. I couldn't be more happy. When I picked mine up, someone else's black 8 was sitting right next to mine ready for pickup. The black looks wicked sweet. I still like how the yellow immediately catches your eye like no other color (except maybe the blue)... If I had to pick between the two (black and titanium) now though, I would pick the titanium. Their both very classy colors, but I still feel the Titanium shows the lines of the car off a bit better (creases and all). Either way, the car looks great in either color.

monte
12-05-2003, 11:24 AM
Exactly! The titanium pics up on the "creases" and the body lines. EXACTLY what i thought last night when i put them side by side and compared.

Although i can't decide at all... black is beautiful, and so is the gray!

Although with the apperanaces i think the gray MIGHT look better.. BUT I DON"T KNOW!!

keep posting guys, each post helps.. KEEP IT UP!

In all honesty...I LOVE the yellow. It is my favorite of them all. But...yellow would be too much cop-bait. If I only drove my 8 on weekends...then hell yeah, yellow is my pick. It looks incredible. Ever seen one with the factory polished or chrome wheels? It's orgasmic.......

anyway...get the black!!

I saw a picture of a yellow 8 at a show with polished factory wheels... That's why I picked the yellow. And yes, I only drive my car on the weekends... checking my mirrors constantly.

personally I would pick the titanium. my last vehicle *sniff was a well dressed durango of just a slightly lighter tone of this color. my friend had the soma model in black and while it looked ok the silver (actually dark platinum) was so much more attractive and still looked better when mine was dirty and his was clean. by the way im torn betwen the titanium and the yellow.

O lordy this is not making it any easier on me guys :)

Tonight i'm getting a car lol, i'm very excited and very happy. Yet very very stressed at what color i want.

Keep up the posts.

I'm leaning towards the black (ONLY BE CAUSE OF INTERIOR)

Gray i love cuz of the outside appearance... such a tough decision.

I have the Titanium Gray RX-8. My partner has a black Infiniti FX35. Guess whose car looks better after a rain! (mine) I will probably never own a black car, it's just too hard to keep clean!

My last car was a very dark blue (almost black) BMW, it was just as bad as black.

b/t black and titanium, i'd pick the titanium, mostly 'cuz it's a more interesting color and doesn't hide the lines of the 8 as much as the black. i do concede that 8 looks good in any color :D but titanium is the in color right now, and it is a very nice color, almost w/ a slight hint of blue hue in it, and it does look very good on the 8

but personally i'd either get lightning yellow or velocity red. the 8 deserves exciting colors :p and i've always been a sucker of yellow

congratulations i wish i was ordering my 8 tonight :( :)

formal/classy w/ well-heeled clientele - go for the black

younger, techno/industrial/gritty/creative w/ hip clientele - get the Ti.

My question is why dont you want two tone with titanium.

If you really like two tone and you think it will be hard to keep the black color clean go for ---> Titanium with red/black interior. Its a beautiful combo OR you could go with the Tit and Chapparal.

You get best of both worlds i.e. a great exterior color that isn't tough to keep clean and a beautiful two tone interior.

12-05-2003, 07:04 PM
I think that both colors look great, but since you want know which one to buy I would say the Titanium. I feel it is a much more timeless color. Black will look better when it is freshly washed and waxed. I can atest to this as I currently have a black (non RX8) car and it looks damn good after a bath, but a day later it is already in need of another wash.
So I say get the Titanium, as I think you will be happier with it in the long run.

jdwk
12-10-2003, 01:26 AM
If it's black or gray, there is no contest if both cars are spotless. However, black is SO hard (read impossible) to keep perfect.

Black will even show the fine scratches from sand in the air, no BS. I have only owned black cars, and people ask me all the time if I had my 96 MX-6 repainted because it looks so good.

To untrained eyes it does.

However, with direct sunlight, I can see every time a drop of water or bird crap stayed on a little too long, I can see every swirl from my sponges and towels, and I can see the mark left by every rock and piece of debris.

It takes a lot of work to keep black looking good. If you cherish the car, and don't mind washing the car once a week or more, go with black. But if you are one of those lazy bastards who let weeks of dust and dirt ruin a black car, then please get gray. I hate it when I see a nice black car covered in dirt.

There is nothing wrong with gray, it looks nice, but wash a gray car and walk away, and it will look a little better. However, if you wash a black car, your jaw will drop every time.

Being the hypocrit that I am, I think I am actually going with yellow. I have always had black cars, so I think it is time for a change, and the RX-8 is one of the few cars that truly deserves to yell "look at me" as loud as possible. Black is still haunting me though.

I love the black one but the colour is your personal decision but... i love this color beacause its a easy colour...im explain it... if you have any problen whit it for example a little crash when you paint the piece another time you don't see a diferent tone in the car's paint and swisfref is you don't want to see your car in every coner the paint is only a little part of solution i thing you can't purchase some performance kits its more easy and more funny than try a rare colour

I've got the Titanium 6 speed with GT, appearance and rotary package. I also had a "color crisis" so to speak between the black and the titanium gray. Here's my observations/rationale for my final color decision (obviously no reflection on those who have chosen other colors ;-):

Black
-"Stealth" look, covert operations kind of suggestiveness
-Had two black trucks...yep, they were hard to keep clean!
-Equally hard to hide scratches; color showed scratches way too much
-Not a common color for high performance sports vehicles, it seems like.
-Color didn't seem as "rich" or as "deep" as the titanium
-Color didn't seem very "inspiring"
-Looks "killer" after a fresh wash and armor-all on the tires...hard to beat there

Titanium
-Quietly understated appearance
-Elegant color...makes the decision to purchase a high performance car (almost) seem rational
-Better metallic depth and appearance (to me, of course)
-Gets dirty just like the black, but doesn't seem to show it as much
-Looked better under the dealership lights at night to me
-Cool name for a color

Honestly, I think you'd be pleased with either color, particularly if you're considering the more "subdued" look as opposed to the red, blue or yellow, though the blue is on the border between the bright "sports car colors" of red and yellow and the black/silver/titanium.

For me...no regrets, and plenty of satisfaction. The best part is the driving. You probably don't want to make it a showpiece that you don't drive for fear of getting it wet, dirty, eventually scratched, etc.

So, the decision is...?

17 baby.

Just got acceptance letter.

Ordering car monday morning, no if ands or buts. I'm 100% Sure. COlor decision MUST be made this weekend and i will order it monday.

Scenarios:

Black. 2tone red leather(gt). appearance. spoiler. rotary acc. (possibly tints?) (at dealership with 194 or 294 miles on it (don't remember)) Will take 2 weeks to have it in my hands (after all mods put on)

T.gray. 2tone red leather(gt). appearance. spoiler. rotary acc. (possibly tints?) (On boat somewhere shipping to them, will arrive in january some time.)0-1 miles on it.

These are my 2 options. I'm haveing the most hard time to decide. I've only seen 1 car posted w/t.gray n red interior.

This is the hardest decision ever. Please help guys.. Please help.

Monday morning i purchase a mazda rx8 *or at least a DP will i pay fully :-/*

And to mention: i'm 17, like to be noticed, buisness tycoon type (www.surreal-media.com (http://www.surreal-media.com) ) and ready for the girlies.

Well Monte, it is a tough decision. Took a look at your web site and saw a very creative mind at work...makes the decision to buy an RX-8 easy to follow; great car, outstanding looks, breaks the usual sports car mold, super lines, etc. I would have thought of the colors you'd have also been inclined to look at the blue; it would be a great reflection of your work and creativity. However, that said, and if the blue is not an option, then the Titanium is the only one that really seems to fit the type of work I saw in your web site: professional, elegant, streamlined, purposeful, no-nonsense sports car for a man who know what he wants kind of appearance. For you, I'd say either the blue or the titanium. If not the blue, then definitely the titanium.

monte

gixxer2go

You know me too well. Wow.

Blue was hands down my first choice. Slowly after i decided against it... till this day i don't know why ;-/

Anyways, the titanium is very nice, shows body lines more then the black. I wish people would post their appereance loaded black/titanium rx8's. I"ll be going back to the dealership tomorrow to snap a few pics.

I'll post them ofcourse, but hey, gixxer2go, great advice :)

And thank you for your kind words about my company :). i'm not the head designer, i'm CEO, handle mostly behind the scenes work/clients, although I do have a knack for design as well.

No offense, I meant it humorously. One technique for getting a good deal is to get the salesman to invest more and more time into making the sale to you. My uncle plays that game very well. At some point the salesman wakes up and realizes just how much time they've put into the deal and that their dollars per hour are dwindling. They become motivated to finish and close the deal. This takes the kind of patience and tolerance for BS that I don't have. It also has to appear innocent or at least not a blatant con - thus the art of BS. It sounds like you might have achieved the same effect without planning it (and without the BS), by repeatedly going back and agonizing over the color. You succeeded in building up the tension there, and on this thread as well. I can't wait to find out what color you finally get!

At this point get the yellow you have used up so much concentration get the yellow on this that you may be at the point of being susceptible to subliminal get the yellow suggestions. Be very get the yellow careful as you finalize your color decision get the yellow this weekend!

Again, best of luck to you I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever color yellow choose.

Black looks awsome but be ready for all the drawbacks that come with a black car. You have to wash often, scratches are much easier to see. (And you will get scratches no matter how hard you try not to.) Much hotter in the summer time.
Myself, I was torn between titan silver and sunlight silver and finally decided on sunlight silver and have not regretted the choice. Now my second favorite color is red.
The titamium is too close to a blue color for me. So between the two you are struggling over I would say go with the black. I like how the black hides the lines and makes the car look like one solid continues shape.

Aren't you like 16-17 though? It's kinda neat you call yourself CEO... wouldn't you need other people working under you to call yourself CEO though, at least a few dozen? I mean, it's like owning a lemonade stand and calling yourself CEO.

I know you don't want the Red... I'm just playing with your mind :)

Black was my first choice until I saw the Red. However, I've never owned a black car and never owned a Red sports-car (until now). So that says something. Since Ti is the most popular 8 color, I'll have to vote for black. After Red of course :)

What I meant was, wouldn't it be the same for a kid running a lemonade stand to call themselves CEO? Thus making that title not that impressive. It would have been more impressive for monte to say he makes XXXk amount of money per year.

I don't care if people knew how much I make... it's not like I cheat on my taxes, or getting the money illegally. It's not like I'm telling people my social security number or anything.

Titanium if you don't want to clean it all the time looks good... black you need to keep it spick and clean. Same for both answers. I've had 4 black cars, and they all got dirty pretty fast from normal driving.
