View Full Version : I need to ask?
Dookie_Rx-8 12-04-2003, 01:39 AM Is it just me or does the American Rx-8 suck compare to the japan and euro models, they seem to have better opitions than us .
another question
Does a turbo kill the life of the engine in the long run? Ask yourself this have u ever seen a 3-generation rx-7 twin turbo cuz i know i never see it around anymore i see more supras twin turbos than the rx-7 one.
8_wannabe 12-04-2003, 10:49 AM What diff? Climate control and entry lights on the exterior mirrors. Are we missing anything else? These would be cool to have and I have no idea why they're not offered in the states, but not worth getting spun up about.
On the other hand, in the states it is impossible to order certain combinations, like sunroof or leather only come with a package deal, cannot be ordered a la carte. That sux, and if it's different in other countries then yeah, I agree they got a better deal.
For the record, the GT package + nav gave me everything I want and nothing I don't want so I'm not complaining. But i realize many people would have liked to pick and choose their options.
RX8Lover 12-04-2003, 10:55 AM The European models have those cool little headlight washers that come out from the bumper.
And doesn't the Japanese model get the full 247 HP?
Matteo 12-04-2003, 01:23 PM yes...jap models have a little bit more of
power ...because the cars over there have less pollution limits (but consider that japs measures the power with little bit different system...are more optimistic)
moRotorMotor 12-04-2003, 02:22 PM US. models don't have headlight washers? That's too bad, because Canadian models do
8_wannabe 12-04-2003, 02:54 PM Some countries, if you have HID headlights then headlight washers are mandatory. This is about the last thing in the US that hasn't yet been regulated/mandated.
I keep wondering why we don't get the cool lights on the outside mirrors.
moRotorMotor 12-04-2003, 03:39 PM I guess if you are able to get your hands on the outside mirror lights kit, then you would be set to go. Provided that you also have a wiring diagram and some know-how. I'm very interested in hooking them up, even if it means making it from scratch. Just tap into the interior door/dome lights so it works with the keyless remote and fades off when you get inside... might sound easiar said then done but I believe it is achievable.

You seem to be in the minority... It's nearly impossible to find an FD with the original engine, though I would imagine the people that aren't having to replace engines are more likely to hang onto them.
Also I believe there were a lot more Supras sold and there was also a less expensive N/A version sold in addition to the TT model, with the FD it was TT or bust and they were all pricey. The Supra also had 3 more years of production, nearly 4 considering there were very very few FDs sold in 95, and there were only about 13k FDs sold for all 3 model years in the US. As far as I know none of the early to mid 90s high priced sportscars were very successful from a sales standpoint which is why most were dropped along with emissions problems. The FD was probably the least successful even though it and many of the other cars were received rather well by the automotive press, regardless, none of them never sold very well. This is just a guess... but I believe the 3000GT was probably the most sucessful sales wise even though it was probably the least impressive of the 4 higher end japanese sportscars (300Z, Supra, 3000GT/Stealth, RX-7).

That is probably true. I suspect high HP engines that are driven hard are not likely to last ten years. I guess I am lucky (knock on wood):)
euro models also got the lip spoiler stock...also, canada got teh 6 disc in dash stock...so yea, basically the US versions are rip offs...
dru8999 12-04-2003, 09:17 PM Well, from what I observed, the models in US come with anti-dazzle rear view mirror which the Japanese domestic models do not have. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I hope you continue to have luck, I love the FDs, but they will never be accused of being reliable :p How many miles do you have on it, and do you have any mods?

Dookie_Rx-8 12-05-2003, 12:11 AM Thankz for the input.
The only problem on my mind is I want a turbo system when i have my own money to buy it b/c i love that blow off valve sound mostly + i would have the extra power needed when i want it .But i need a fairly relible car and i seem to read alot turbos + Rotaries =bad engine. So i dont know what i plan i do . Oh ya my family drives a new car over 100,000miles in maybe 2-3 years
Dookie_Rx-8 12-05-2003, 12:19 AM incase your saying to yourself Then why did i pick an Rx-8 its becuase its to good to pass up and it looks tight

That was pretty close but actually total production for Supras from 1993 to 1998 was 11,239. Out of those, 6,977 were turbo. Also the last year for Supras was 1998, not 99. NA Supras were about 32k new and the TT's about 10k more. Here in miami we have quite a few FD's although you don't see them too often.
Dookie_Rx-8 12-05-2003, 06:24 PM would any of you rather get a supra twin turbo or rx-7 twin turbo? i wonder which would people rather have
mikeb 12-05-2003, 06:31 PM its a win win deal
RX_Paranoid 12-06-2003, 12:43 AM I think euro models come with the side door trim with the little rotary imbedded into the trim. as well as stock clear corners
Dookie_Rx-8 12-06-2003, 01:30 PM all euro cars come with clear coners.

Thanks for the production numbers on the Supra, I had no idea it was less than the FD. Do you happen to have a link with the production per year for the Supra, I searched but had no luck.
I'm not sure what made you think I thought they made the Supra til 99. If you do the math 93-95 for the FD and 93-98 for the Supra, that makes it 3 more years of production like I said.

The Supra also had 3 more years of production, nearly 4
Oh when you mentioned nearly 4 years more, i added 1995 + 4 = 1999... oops.
The production #'s for supras can be found here:http://www.mkiv.com/specifications/sales_numbers/retail_sales.html
